Chapter 4: He Dislocated Her Arm
The scene before them was utterly beyond what most people could endure—a spectacle so depraved it defied belief, so cruel it was impossible to witness without anguish.
“Damn it, these people really are the worst. Experimenting with human lives!” Qin Hu glanced at the glass containers, immediately turning his gaze away in disgust. The W Group was truly abhorrent.
He did not know that when the door swung open and the rows of glass vessels came into view, Shen Chaoxi’s eyes flashed with shock and fury.
How could this be?
She had never imagined the truth would be so grim.
Just then, one of the team members brought a girl before Lu Yunzhou.
“What’s this?” Everyone was bewildered, unsure what was happening.
“Don’t kill me,” the girl pleaded, her voice trembling. “Please, don’t kill me! Please…” She looked terrified and kept mumbling, appearing no more than eighteen or nineteen. She wore a white dress, as if she were a student caught while traveling abroad, her mind clearly unsettled.
Shen Chaoxi frowned.
A man reported to Lu Yunzhou, “Captain, we found her in the adjoining secret room. I suspect she has been locked up there for a long time!”
“Don’t be afraid, miss. We’re here to save you. Do you remember who you are?”
“Why are you here? Were you brought in by them?”
“I don’t know, I don’t know anything,” she replied. “I came to Dongzhou to find my boyfriend, but they tricked me into coming here. I want to go home, I want to go home!” Suddenly, she clung desperately to Qin Hu’s hand—the man who moments ago had stormed angrily at Shen Chaoxi—now deflated, earnestly comforting her.
“Where is your home? Do you remember?”
“Yunzhou,” the girl answered, as if grasping at a lifeline, staring frantically at Qin Hu. “My home, it’s my home!”
“Captain, she’s from Yunzhou!” someone announced.
It was clear this girl was another victim of the experimental facility, locked away for ages. Today, she was finally freed—a trace of consciousness remaining, and she still remembered her home. This only made Qin Hu hate the W Group even more.
“Captain, in my opinion, we should just shoot her!” Qin Hu’s angry gaze was directed at Shen Chaoxi.
As he spoke, the girl huddled beside him looked up as well, casting a glance at Shen Chaoxi, her eyes burning with hatred.
Shen Chaoxi’s brows furrowed in displeasure.
Something was off.
The way the girl looked at her was strange…
If she had been abducted, why was she the only one still alive?
“No, don’t kill me…” the girl pleaded again, “Please!”
Suddenly, her mind seemed to snap, violently pushing away the man in front of her. Her expression twisted, and she snatched the pistol from Qin Hu’s belt.
Lu Yunzhou’s eyes darkened.
The girl lunged at Shen Chaoxi.
“It’s you!” she shrieked. “This is all your fault—I’ll kill you!” Wild-eyed and manic, she leveled the gun at Shen Chaoxi, hatred undisguised.
Before Lu Yunzhou could intervene, a shot rang out—the bullet grazed Shen Chaoxi’s cheek, embedding itself in the control console beside her. The girl, untrained, could not aim properly, so she rushed forward, pressing the gun nearly to Shen Chaoxi’s forehead.
Shen Chaoxi was not easily intimidated.
“To kill me?” she laughed coldly, gripping the girl’s wrist. Her clear, cold eyes met the girl’s hateful glare. “You’re not qualified.”
By the time the others rushed over, Shen Chaoxi had already wrested the gun from the girl, holding it in her hand and mocking her.
“Don’t kill her!” they cried.
“Kill her?” Shen Chaoxi arched a brow, “You must be blind. She tried to kill me.”
She spoke the truth, but everyone sided with the girl—because she was from the same country, while Shen Chaoxi was the outsider, the villain.
As the group gathered, confused about what to do, the girl suddenly shoved Shen Chaoxi, trying to escape.
The push was fierce—Shen Chaoxi, already suffering from a chest wound, crashed against the research table, scattering a pile of laboratory glassware. Shards sliced her hand.
She frowned, but reached out, grabbing the girl’s arm with sudden force, pinning her in place. Her grip was gentle yet unyielding, impossible to resist.
The girl froze, disbelief in her eyes as Shen Chaoxi took her hostage.
Before anyone could react, Shen Chaoxi held the girl from behind, the cold barrel of the gun pressed to her throat.
“Don’t move,” Shen Chaoxi ordered in a low, cold voice.
She had not intended to kill the girl—but some people simply lacked sense.
The gun in Shen Chaoxi’s hand was aimed at the girl’s neck.
The girl’s attempt to escape stalled abruptly.
Lu Yunzhou smirked, his lips curling into a low, mocking laugh.
“Trying to drag us all down with you?” he taunted.
Shen Chaoxi’s frown deepened—this man was truly formidable. Even in such a dire moment, he could still find amusement.
“Do you think I won’t dare?” she threatened.
“You think holding her hostage is your ticket out?” Lu Yunzhou stood in black attire, his figure sharp and upright, brows like blades, his nose sculpted as if carved by a craftsman, dark eyes cold and emotionless as he regarded her.
For a moment, Shen Chaoxi found herself unable to read him.
She paused slightly, clutching the dagger, chin lifted.
“What else?” she replied coldly.
She wasn't trying to use the hostage to escape for her own life—but her face was pale, sweat beading on her brow, yet she still held their person with an unwavering, fearless gaze.
“Don’t come any closer—”
Chen Yu and Qin Hu, along with the others, had no choice but to stop.
The man strode toward her.
Under the austere light of the fluorescent lamp, his handsome face was set in disdain, lips pressed thin, eyes filled with a cold, scornful smile, his expression calm yet exuding a dangerous, aristocratic air.
“Stop!” Shen Chaoxi’s expression changed as she saw him approach, quickly shouting, “I said stop—didn’t you hear me?”
“If you don’t want this girl to die, you’d better listen and stay back. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being ruthless with her!”
Their mission here was not only to secure the key, but also to rescue people. Shen Chaoxi was gambling that he would not let the girl die right in front of him.
She was right about that.
But she miscalculated one thing.
She did not expect that someone in this world could move so quickly—three steps in an instant, the pinnacle of close-combat speed.
In a blink, the man was upon her. Shen Chaoxi’s eyes widened in shock, “You—?”
Her words barely formed as the fluorescent light was blocked, casting the man’s cold, sharp features into shadow.
Lu Yunzhou’s eyes were pitch-black, his gaze ice-cold.
His long arm reached out.
He effortlessly seized her arm—the one holding the gun.
Her wrist was gripped tightly, as if he had instantly found her weak spot, rendering her powerless.
Shen Chaoxi was helpless.
With a clang, the pistol fell to the floor.
A sudden, intense pain shot through her right arm.
A sharp crack reverberated.
He had dislocated Shen Chaoxi’s arm.
