Chapter 138: Lin Feng Shows Her Face Again
Just as I was watching her pull Wang Lei away, my phone rang.
To my surprise, it was Wang Zihao, whom I had just parted ways with. His purpose was simple and direct: he asked me to send Wang Lei over to his place before heading to the Majiazhuang Village, saying that Wang Lei's mother had come looking for him.
Hearing this, I froze completely. Wasn't Wang Lei just taken away by his mother?
Wang Zihao asked me what nonsense I was talking about, insisting that Wang Lei's mother was standing right in front of him, looking extremely anxious!
Hearing this, I cursed out loud. Without even having time to hang up the phone, I leaped right off the sofa.
The moment I rushed out the door, I saw Wang Lei just getting into a car, while Ms. Hu was opening the car door.
"Stop right there! Wang Lei! Get out of the car!"
Ms. Hu clearly saw me. She took off her sunglasses, waved at me, and her lips parted and closed a couple of times.
That gesture clearly meant she was saying goodbye to me.
That look in her eyes—it seemed so familiar, as if I had seen it somewhere before!
After a moment of thought, a terrifying name suddenly flashed through my mind: Lin Feng!
Right at that moment, the car started. She slammed on the steering wheel, and the vehicle sped away.
It was already too late for me to chase after it, and I could only watch helplessly as she vanished from my sight.
Just then, Song Zhong chased after me. Looking at me in confusion, he asked, "What's wrong? Why are you chasing after him when he's just being taken away by his mother? Was the payment too low?"
I glanced at Song Zhong, took a deep breath, and said, "That person was an imposter pretending to be Wang Lei's mother. The real Ms. Hu is currently at the police station with Wang Zihao!"
"No way! Then what do we do? The kid himself even mistook her for his mother!"
In fact, it wasn't hard to figure out what was going on. Most likely, Lin Feng had set her sights on Wang Lei's karmic eyes.
Is there anything the Golden Cicada Society wouldn't do?
"Well, aren't we completely screwed then? How are we supposed to explain this to his mother?"
I shook my head. I didn't know how we would explain it, but one thing was certain: we had to find Wang Lei right now.
I patted Song Zhong on the shoulder and said, "You drive. You remember that car's license plate, right? Go find it. I'll have Wang Zihao track the surveillance cameras along the route and report its location."
"And what about you?"
I pulled out the keys to my electric scooter and said, "I'll search on a bike!"
No sooner said than done. A child had been snatched right under our noses. If my grandfather were to find out about this, I'd probably be beaten to death!
By now, the moon was hanging high in the sky, and the city was filled with the wail of police sirens.
Everyone was working toward the exact same goal: finding Wang Lei.
Through surveillance cameras, Wang Zihao discovered that the car had turned into a small alley and never appeared again.
When they located the vehicle based on the clues, it was already completely empty. Furthermore, the car's registration information checked out—it was a stolen vehicle.
At this point, Song Zhong and I rendezvoused beside the car. Song Zhong bluntly suggested that I use the Wild Maoshan Taoist technique I had used previously to find Song Chao.
I had to admit that Song Zhong's quick wit came in handy sometimes.
I immediately asked Wang Zihao to bring Wang Lei's biological mother over.
When I laid eyes on the real Ms. Hu, the resemblance to the imposter was absolute perfection.
This proved that Wang Lei had been targeted by the members of the Golden Cicada Society long ago. As for why they chose to make their move at this exact juncture, I couldn't figure out.
Now, the top priority was to find Wang Lei.
I immediately drew a blood-lineage family-seeking divination talisman.
Song Zhong, having already witnessed the terrifying power of this talisman, wasn't too surprised, but Wang Zihao stared at it in sheer amazement.
I drew out the route map. Comparing it with the map, if everything went as expected, Wang Lei should be somewhere in the west of the city.
"Let's go, let's go! We can search in detail once we reach the general area!"
With a destination in mind, I stopped riding my scooter. Song Zhong drove me, while Wang Zihao drove with Ms. Hu.
Originally, we hadn't planned on letting Ms. Hu come along, but we couldn't talk her out of it. Besides, there was another reason: having a blood relative like Wang Lei around would make pinpointing his exact location much easier later on.
According to the route map, we had basically reached our destination.
I looked around. This area had not been fully developed yet.
There were several construction sites still in progress, but since it was already the dead of night, most of the work had stopped, and the sites were quiet.
After getting out of the car, I held the route map and compared it with the surroundings.
"Jiang Huai, how is it?"
I shook my head. "Not good. The trail ends right here."
I pondered for a moment. Just then, Wang Zihao and Ms. Hu arrived as well.
"Brother Hao, do this: call in more people. Wang Lei is definitely around here somewhere, but I don't know his exact location. Spread the men out to search."
Wang Zihao nodded. Just as he was about to take out his phone, I added, "Give strict orders: if anyone spots Wang Lei, they must not rush in on their own. Just keep eyes on him, notify us immediately, because Lin Feng is by Wang Lei's side."
Hearing Lin Feng's name, Wang Zihao froze. I knew what he was thinking. "Don't worry, I want to find her more than anyone else, and I am absolutely certain I won't make a mistake."
Wang Zihao nodded. He turned to Ms. Hu and said, "Ms. Hu, the situation has somewhat exceeded my expectations. You cannot continue following us during the upcoming search."
"No! What about my son, then?"
I glanced at Ms. Hu and said, "With us around, your son will be fine. If anything happens to him, your presence won't make any difference either. For all these years, Wang Lei said you never really loved him, blaming him for your younger brother's death. Now you suddenly rush over to care about him—is it really for Wang Lei himself, or for the inheritance left behind after Wang Song's death?"
Ms. Hu froze. Just as she was about to explain, I raised a hand to cut her off. "I was just speaking my mind, and whatever you're thinking has nothing to do with me. But I can tell you this: if you insist on following us and something happens to you, we won't take any responsibility."
