Chapter 108: The Bloodline Spell for Finding Kin and Missing People
“Mr. Jiang… Mr. Jiang, is that really you in these photos?”
I looked at Song Baoguo. He spoke bluntly, asking if I had offended someone, otherwise, why would I be under such surveillance?
What was more alarming was that the envelope was found on Song Chao’s bed.
“Mr. Jiang, why would your enemy kidnap my Chao’er?”
Song Baoguo remained relatively calm. He wasn’t a fool—he knew this was directed at me, but he couldn’t understand what this had to do with his youngest son.
He even suspected that perhaps because Song Zhong was now working with me, my enemies had taken it out on his son.
But soon enough, I revealed the truth about Song Chao’s abduction.
I put down the photos and rubbed my temple with one hand. “The one who took Song Chao isn’t anyone else—it’s the person behind Wang Sheng.” After a pause, I looked at Song Baoguo and said, “The Golden Cicada Society.”
“You… you said what? So if they took my Chao’er, does that mean they want to turn him into another Wang Sheng?”
I shook my head, uncertain. Looking at the photos on the table, my heart sank deeper.
When did someone get photographs of me this clearly without my knowledge?
It had to be because I had ruined quite a few schemes of the Golden Cicada Society, making me a target. Now that they had captured Song Chao and Yu Nie, they surely planned to use them as leverage against me.
They took Yu Nie because he had also interfered with their plans.
They took Song Chao and left photos because they saw value in Song Baoguo’s identity.
If I couldn’t help Song Baoguo recover Song Chao, he would inevitably blame me in the end.
From this, it was clear the Golden Cicada Society already held two bargaining chips.
What did they want me to do?
“Mr. Jiang, say something. How do you plan to handle this?”
I glanced at Song Baoguo, then gathered the photos and pocketed them. Standing, I said, “Uncle Song, rest assured, I won’t let anything happen to Song Chao.”
As I moved to leave, Song Baoguo called out, “Wait!”
I turned to him. His face was grave. “My Chao’er can’t be harmed. Remember that. If anything happens to him because of you…”
I raised my hand to cut him off. “Nothing will happen.”
Song Baoguo didn’t say more. He chose to trust me once again.
Before leaving the Song residence, I told Song Baoguo to inform me immediately of any news, no matter what.
Outside, I saw Song Zhong sitting on his electric tricycle, lost in thought.
I patted his shoulder, and he jumped, startled.
“What’s with you? You’re like a ghost, walking around without a sound.”
I frowned slightly, recalling what my grandfather said—that Song Zhong was my benefactor.
Last time, he had inadvertently saved me and Wang Zihao. It seemed I needed his help again.
“Come on, let’s head back to the shop and find your brother.”
Song Zhong never connected going back to the shop with finding his brother.
When we returned, he looked puzzled as I busied myself in the main hall.
I moved all the furniture aside and brought out the old Eight Immortals table from my grandfather’s room, placing it in the center, then spread a red cloth over it.
I took down the three Mao True Lord’s shrine from the shop altar and placed it on the table. In front of it, I set an incense burner, offerings, a bowl of clear water, and a single chopstick.
Between the bowl and the shrine, I placed a wooden board covered with incense ash.
“Come…”
I beckoned Song Zhong to the newly arranged ritual altar. “Kneel.”
“Huh?” Song Zhong looked at me in confusion. “Why kneel?”
“To find your brother.”
I pressed his shoulder, and he didn’t expect someone barely an adult to have the strength to force him down.
I drew blood from his index finger with a silver needle and had him write Song Chao’s name and birth details on yellow paper.
“Will this really find Song Chao?”
I nodded in explanation. “You and Song Chao share blood. There’s a rite from Wild Mao Mountain that can trace those with the same bloodline.”
After a brief pause, I added, “It’s called the Bloodline Kinship Seeking Spell. It can’t pinpoint an exact location but can give a general area, which will make the search easier.”
“Who exactly took my brother?”
“The Golden Cicada Society. We’ll get to that later. First, let’s fix the location.”
I took a deep breath, bit my finger, and drew the Bloodline Kinship Seeking talisman on my palm.
Slapping Song Zhong sharply on the back, I held out my sword finger and intoned:
“Seeking kin across a thousand miles, chasing souls across ten thousand; life and death are clear in the mortal realm; those with masters return home, hearts aligned with the heavens; without masters, no home, no fate, no next life! Urgent, as the law commands!”
Song Zhong’s eyes glazed over, and he knelt, head drooping before the altar.
I gently lifted his chin and took the yellow paper with Song Chao’s birth info.
With a slight shake between my fingers, the talisman ignited.
I dropped the burning yellow paper into the water, stirred briefly with a chopstick, then placed one end into Song Zhong’s mouth.
The other end rested on the incense ash-covered board.
“East, south, west, north—all clear; seeking names and people, the door is open! Urgent, urgent, urgent!”
Song Zhong’s head shook uncontrollably; biting the chopstick, he traced aimless patterns in the incense ash with the other end.
After nearly a minute, a snap—the chopstick broke, and he collapsed to the side.
Yet on the incense ash, a map had truly been drawn!
I took a deep breath, retrieved the half chopstick from his mouth, and began tracing the map in the ash, taking notes to calculate.
“Ugh… my head hurts…”
The moment Song Zhong came to, I had already determined the location and distance.
