Chapter 97: You're My Girlfriend!
As the final howl died away, Xia Yu stopped. The bloodthirsty gleam in his eyes slowly faded.
Yet the fierce aura around him still clung to everyone’s heart.
Nearly thirty underlings lay groaning on the ground, battered and bruised. And when they looked back at Xia Yu, they found him completely untouched.
They were stunned beyond words. They had thought men like this only existed in movies, never imagining anyone in real life could do it.
One against thirty?
They had never seen Xia Yu at seventeen, during group-fighting training, bare-handedly taking on a hundred foreigners.
Xia Yu tossed aside the steel pipe in his right hand, drew a pack of cheap cigarettes from his pocket, and lit one with calm elegance.
Then he raised his eyes to Lin An and the others.
And walked toward them, step by step.
“No good, he’s a madman, run!”
Fang Zi was the first to react, bolting at once. If he did not run now, was he waiting to be crippled by this madman?
Who knew how ruthless he might be? Thirty men had already fallen to him; what was face worth now? Running was the best choice.
The fat one came to his senses as well, and fled in terror.
“Xia Yu, wh-what are you doing? Don’t do anything stupid.”
“If you dare, the Lin family will never let you off…”
Lin An was still forcing himself to hold on, but his confidence was draining away. His words were already coming out in pieces.
“Oh…”
Xia Yu gave him a smile and kept walking.
“Brother An, run... run. Don’t mess with this madman anymore.”
Another rich young man beside him said that, then ran too.
Seeing this, Lin An no longer cared about anything else. He let go of the girl, turned, and fled.
Xia Yu flicked the steel pipe out. It flew true and struck Lin An’s knee. He let out a shriek and collapsed.
“Running already? Weren’t you full of confidence?”
Xia Yu picked up the stick from the ground and looked down at him from above.
“Lin An, Brother Yu has endured you for a long time. You really never learn, do you? You still dare to jump around in front of me.”
Seeing the ruthlessness in Xia Yu’s eyes, Lin An was completely panicked.
“Xia... Xia Yu, no, brother-in-law, don’t hit me.”
“We were family once, after all. You... you can’t hit me. I won’t dare again next time.”
“Heh. Too late.”
Xia Yu’s smile vanished, and the steel pipe came down mercilessly.
“Ah...”
The piercing screams made everyone present feel their scalps tingle with dread.
When Xia Yu finally stopped, the once-imposing Lin An was a pitiful wreck, not a single inch of his body left unharmed.
Xia Yu turned and left, saying to the few female students who had come with him, “You can take him to the hospital now.”
After Xia Yu returned to the restaurant, the crowd slowly came back to themselves. The place stirred into uproar, and it took quite a while of heated discussion before people finally dispersed and the night market returned to order.
“Sister-in-law, it’s over,” Xia Yu said with a smile when he reached Liu Hua. Then he suddenly remembered something. “Damn, I forgot to ask them for the meal money!”
Liu Hua could not help laughing. “It’s fine. I’m just grateful you handled this trouble. A meal is nothing. Thank you.”
“Mm...”
Xia Yu smiled awkwardly.
Just as he was about to go upstairs, the group of students suddenly ran over, shouting with excitement and admiration.
“Handsome brother...”
“Goddess-level expert!”
The girls called him handsome brother; the boys called him a master.
“Hey, hey, what are you doing?”
“Handsome brother, can I add you on messaging?”
“Can I get your autograph and a photo? You were insanely cool just now. Let’s be friends.”
Xia Yu did not know whether to laugh or cry, but considering this was Liu Hua’s restaurant, he said generously, “Autographs are a bit much. I’m not some celebrity. But a photo is fine.”
“Next time you all come here for hot pot, remember to support the boss lady’s business, and bring more classmates with you.”
“Definitely, definitely! Will handsome brother come often too?”
The girls asked excitedly, surprised by how approachable he was. He had no airs at all, and unlike before, he did not seem fierce now. He was like the big brother next door.
Some of the more bold girls even wanted to make a direct invitation to talk about life together that night.
So Xia Yu raised two fingers in a peace sign, grinned like an idiot, and took a few big group photos with them before finally shaking off their pestering and going upstairs to keep Liu Xiao Mi company.
“Godfather, are the bad people gone?” Liu Xiao Mi asked anxiously.
“You were very obedient, weren’t you? Sitting here waiting for me the whole time?”
Xia Yu was still a little worried that she might have run downstairs to see what was happening outside. She was still young, after all, and he still needed to maintain the lofty image of a father and godfather.
“Yes. Didn’t Godfather tell me to sit here and wait for you?”
Liu Xiao Mi nodded with a dazed little look.
“Good. The bad people have all run away. Hurry and eat.”
Xia Yu said with satisfaction.
After the two of them had eaten their fill, and since Liu Hua was still busy, Xia Yu did not linger. He took Liu Xiao Mi and left.
And after what happened tonight, those people surely would not dare cause trouble again.
...
Lin Yuqing left the Li family’s home. Although the meal with the Li family had been fairly pleasant, she did not feel the least bit happy.
On the contrary, she felt more pressure than anything else.
Because Li Hao’s family had completely treated her as their future daughter-in-law and were very satisfied with her.
To join a wealthy family like the Lis would be a dream for many girls, but that had never been what Lin Yuqing wanted.
Li Hao, however, was exceptionally happy. He felt that since both families had now met, their relationship had made real progress beyond mere dating.
So once they got in the car, Li Hao looked at Lin Yuqing’s bright, lovely face and could not restrain himself from kissing her.
Lin Yuqing stiffened all over. Frightened, she slapped Li Hao across the face.
“What... what are you doing?!”
Li Hao covered his face, stunned, then grew somewhat irritated and wronged.
“Yuqing, I should be asking what you’re doing! You’re my girlfriend. What’s wrong with kissing you once?”
“Do you really have to react this strongly?!”
“I... I...”
Lin Yuqing was shocked and angry, but Li Hao’s retort made her realize it was her own fault. She said hurriedly, “S-sorry, Li Hao. I really am not used to it.”
“Even though I’ve met your family, we really are not at that stage yet. Give me some more time, okay?”
“I...” Li Hao said, somewhat displeased. “Yuqing, I’ve always respected you.”
“But can you think a little about my feelings? I love you. You’re my girlfriend.”
“I know, but we really haven’t reached that point yet,” Lin Yuqing said firmly. “I have my own principles, and I hope you won’t try to break them.”
“Don’t forget what I said when I first agreed to be with you.”
Li Hao’s heart tightened. He had not expected this girl to be so stubborn. Perhaps that was also part of why he admired and adored her.
“Fine, Yuqing. Since you’ve said that, I’ll give you time.”
“But I hope that day won’t be too far off.”
Lin Yuqing did not know how to answer. Looking out the window, she said, “Let’s go back.”
