Chapter 77: A Burdensome Ally
The young man, seeing the group dressed so flamboyantly, naturally didn’t take them for innocent girls, so he brazenly sidled up to Lily.
“Let’s be friends. I guarantee you’ll all have a great time here with me.”
He hadn’t expected Lily to have such a fiery temper—she slapped him hard across the face and cursed, “Get lost, you pathetic loser! Stay away from me!”
The young man stood there, stunned by the slap. His companion, a yellow-haired fellow, stormed up in anger, jabbing a finger at Lily and snarling,
“You crazy woman, don’t know what’s good for you, do you? How dare you lay a hand on Wei! Are you looking for trouble?”
“And who do you think you’re pointing at? Trying to act tough here?” Lily retorted arrogantly. “Do you even know where you are? Bullying women, are you? Don’t think we’re defenseless just because we’re women.”
With that, she took out her phone and called Wu Tian.
Soon, Wu Tian arrived with a crowd of men, all classmates who had come together.
They quickly surrounded the two young men, brimming with anger. “So, you think you can bully our female classmates? Want to settle this one-on-one or all together?”
Back in school, Wu Tian had been quite a notorious figure. Now, relying on numbers, he certainly wasn’t afraid.
The other male classmates, eager to show off, glared at the two young men with aggressive arrogance.
“No wonder you’re so cocky—you’ve got numbers on your side, huh?” He Wei sneered, clutching his reddened cheek.
“So what if we do?” Wu Tian shot back, head held high.
“Damn, you try to take advantage of me? Look at yourselves—dressed like that, you must have sneaked in. Do you even know where you are?” Lily scoffed.
He Wei laughed outright. “You think I sneaked in? That’s a first. No one’s ever dared say that to me. Numbers? You believe I can’t just make a call and have the entire resort security backing me up?”
“Yeah, right. You’re lucky they don’t throw you out,” Wu Tian and the others snorted. They’d seen plenty of petty thugs like this before. Acting tough on the streets was one thing, but this was the Fencehill Resort—a high-class vacation spot.
The guests here were either big-time bosses or high-level business professionals, all dressed smartly in suits. Who would show up looking as sloppy as these two? Even Xia Yu, just a driver, knew to wear a suit here.
“Bluffing, are you?” He Wei’s yellow-haired friend sneered. “Go ask around—who in this place doesn’t know Young Master He? We’re from Ninth Street, and the resort owner Zhou Chen is sworn brothers with He Dong!”
At these words, Wu Tian instantly quieted down. All traces of disdain vanished from his face, and he shuddered.
“Ninth Street? Hell, I could say I’m from White Dragon Gate. Anyone can bluff,” someone muttered.
“Exactly…”
Yet, even as the group kept up their bravado, Wu Tian barked, “Enough! Shut up!”
Everyone startled, looking at Wu Tian in confusion. “What is it, Tian? Why the panic?”
“Don’t say another word—apologize to these guys and let this go. No more arguing.” Wu Tian’s expression was grim.
“What? You want me to apologize? Are you out of your mind, Wu Tian?” Lily snapped.
Wu Tian shot a glance at He Wei’s cold face. “Don’t you know who He Dong from Ninth Street is?”
“Huh?”
Only then did everyone realize what was happening. Their faces went pale. “Tian… Tian, he wasn’t bluffing?”
Just then, a few men in black approached from not far off, calling out, “Young Master He, what’s going on with all these people gathered here?”
“Nothing much. They thought they could bully us with numbers,” He Wei replied with a sly smile.
“What the hell, seriously?”
The men in black pulled out walkie-talkies, and in no time, more than twenty black-clad security guards converged from all directions, surrounding the group.
“Who’s got the guts to try and bully someone here by force of numbers?”
At this, everyone was dumbstruck. Their earlier arrogance evaporated, replaced by sheer panic.
Lily swallowed hard, her face pale. “Wu… Wu Tian, what do we do?”
Now they understood—this guy wasn’t bluffing at all. He was really someone with serious backing.
Wu Tian, more experienced than the others, knew exactly what kind of figure He Dong was—a kingpin of the underworld. Just moments ago, they’d been mouthing off to the son of such a man. The thought made cold sweat run down his back.
“He Dong is the underground king of Deep City. Apologize, quick, or none of us will get out of here,” Wu Tian whispered urgently.
“Ah…”
The group recoiled in terror, looking at He Wei with growing dread.
“Big brother, it’s all a misunderstanding. We were in the wrong—we got carried away.”
Wu Tian, quick on the uptake, saw the situation and immediately apologized.
“Yes, yes, big brother, it’s our fault. Please, be generous…”
The others quickly followed suit, even Lily dropped her attitude and forced a smile, her regret almost palpable. Who could have guessed that this thug, who looked every bit the street punk, had such powerful connections? Not only had they rejected his approach, but they’d also deeply offended him.
If only they’d known, getting to know someone so influential would have been a golden opportunity for them to soar in life.
The more Lily thought about it, the more she regretted it. Her eyes kept darting flirtatiously toward He Wei.
But He Wei was unmoved, sneering, “Weren’t you all pretty tough just now? Even slapped me in the face. What, you think a simple apology is enough?”
“Yu, maybe we should go see what’s happening—it looks like trouble…” Zhao Sijie said anxiously.
Xia Yu sighed inwardly. These people really were something else—each one full of themselves, never considering their own standing, handing out slaps and insults like it was nothing. Did they really think they’d be let off so easily?
He really couldn’t be bothered, but for Zhao Sijie’s sake, he stepped forward. “An apology should be enough. After all, you were the one harassing the ladies first.”
At his words, everyone turned to look at him—and when they saw it was Xia Yu, they were momentarily stunned.
“Oh, and who the hell are you? What makes you think He Wei harassed her, you dog?” Yellow Hair snarled viciously.
Wu Tian and Lily nearly exploded on the spot. Was Xia Yu an idiot? Had he lost his mind?
They’d been trying to apologize and maybe get away with it, but now he was insisting the other side was in the wrong—did they look like reasonable people to him?
“This useless fool is making things worse. I could kill him,” Lily cursed furiously, then turned to He Wei. “Big brother, don’t listen to his nonsense—it’s all our fault. Please, let this go.”
Xia Yu frowned. Seeing they were determined to accept blame, he didn’t bother arguing further.
But suddenly, He Wei slapped Lily across the face and snapped, “Let it go? So I get slapped for nothing?”
Lily clutched her cheek, her face stricken with terror, unable to utter a word.
The others, realizing they were in serious trouble, didn’t dare make a sound.
Shaking his head in exasperation, Xia Yu could only lament his misfortune in having such hopeless companions. In the end, he took out his phone and sent a message to He Dong.
