Chapter 162: Framing
The director looked at the prescription Su Ziyu had written and frowned. "The prescription is fine," he said. "Even if there were some discomfort, it shouldn't cause such severe side effects. Sir, are you certain your child hasn't taken any other medication?"
"What do you mean by that? Are you trying to shirk responsibility?" the man demanded excitedly. "My child only took the medicine from your hospital. It's definitely her fault."
"That's right, don't try to pass the buck. You must pay compensation!"
"Sir, please don't get worked up. We are just trying to get to the bottom of this. If it truly is our hospital's fault, we will take full responsibility until the end."
The director tried his best to soothe them, finally calming them down and inviting them to the conference room. After all, making a scene in the crowded lobby did not look good.
A public scandal would benefit the hospital in no way at all, and if the higher-ups laid blame, no one could shoulder the responsibility.
Su Ziyu's eyes were red and she was on the verge of tears. Her medical reputation was on the line; if the mistake truly was hers, she would be branded an incompetent doctor and could forget about practicing medicine ever again.
The consequences were grave.
As they were still mediating with the family members inside the conference room, the door was suddenly pushed open.
"Who are you?" everyone asked, confused upon seeing the newcomer.
Only Su Ziyu wiped away her tears and said in surprise, "Xia Yu, why haven't you left yet?"
"I came to take a look," Xia Yu said as he walked in. "Hello, everyone. I'm Ziyu's friend."
"I saw what happened outside just now. What's the situation?"
"The family insists it's my fault and is now demanding two hundred thousand in emotional damages," Su Ziyu replied. "Xia Yu, you should go. This has nothing to do with you."
"We're friends. When something happens to you, naturally I have to check in."
Xia Yu glanced at the doctors, then turned to the family members. "Hello, I am Dr. Su's friend. Right now, we just want to investigate the facts clearly."
"Rest assured, I won't show any favoritism, and I completely understand how you feel."
"However, the hospital also needs the truth, especially since a doctor's reputation is at stake."
"What on earth are you trying to say? We need a solution," the family member angrily retorted.
"Alright, then I'll offer a solution," Xia Yu said earnestly. "If it really is my friend's fault, I will pay this money and offer your family three hundred thousand in damages."
"At the same time, proving whether or not it is Dr. Su's responsibility is very simple. Just bring out the medicine she prescribed and test it, and the truth will be revealed."
"Hmm, that is an effective method." The director adjusted his glasses, effectively endorsing Xia Yu's proposal.
"Fine, otherwise you'll just think we're being unreasonable." The man turned to his wife and asked, "Did you bring the medicine over?"
"I didn't think of it, I forgot to bring it," the woman replied.
"Then what are you standing there for? Go right back and get it," the man snapped.
Xia Yu reminded them, "Right, don't forget to bring the hospital receipt as well. We need to match them up."
Outside, Cai Xiaojing watched the woman walk out, and her companion immediately asked, "How's the situation? Why is there still no movement after so long?"
Cai Xiaojing gloated, "Hmph, no matter what, Su Ziyu's career is finished."
"She almost killed someone over a minor fever. With this stain on her record, let's see which hospital would dare hire her."
"Tsk tsk, her competence is pathetic. No wonder she became a chief physician through shady means."
"Haha..."
The group laughed smugly, still harboring deep resentment over the humiliation they suffered at the bar last time.
Naturally, they wanted to see Su Ziyu meet a miserable end.
Half an hour later, the woman returned to the conference room with the medicine.
Several doctors quickly took the medicine to inspect it and compare it with the receipt.
"Huh? Strange, the medicine is correct."
"Indeed, Director. Even if these drugs had side effects, they shouldn't be this drastic, right?" two authoritative doctors asked with puzzled expressions.
The medicine Su Ziyu prescribed was completely correct; if it had been them, they would have prescribed the exact same medications.
"Are you trying to shirk responsibility again?" the family member shouted angrily. "My son was in agonizing pain after taking these medicines. If we hadn't rushed him to the community clinic in time, he would have been killed by you people!"
"That's right, pay up immediately!"
The other family members began to clamor as well.
Xia Yu spoke up once more. "Please calm down. Compensation will certainly not be lacking."
"Doctors, since the medicine itself is fine, why don't you check inside the boxes? It's possible they expired, or were swapped out," Xia Yu suggested.
"Swapped out? How is that possible? Who would do something so foolish?" one doctor said dismissively.
"What if someone wanted to frame Ziyu? Let's just check and see," Xia Yu said solemnly.
The group opened the medicine boxes to inspect them, and their expressions changed drastically a moment later.
"This... two boxes of medicine are indeed wrong."
"Director..." Su Ziyu's face turned pale with fright.
"Director, how could this be? Who swapped the medicine inside?"
"Look at that, I told you it must be your fault!" The family members instantly grew bolder.
"Everyone, please remain calm. Once we investigate thoroughly, we will definitely give you an explanation," the director said with an ugly expression.
"Clearly, someone framed Ziyu," Xia Yu said. "Hurry up and check the surveillance footage. It's possible someone tampered with it when they went to pick up the medicine."
Hearing this, the director rushed to review the surveillance recordings.
In the end, the footage zeroed in on one person: Cai Xiaojing.
During the exact time frame when the family went to collect the medicine, Cai Xiaojing had arrived at the pharmacy ten minutes early, never came out until the family left with the medicine, and then departed shortly afterward.
Thus, her suspicion was the highest, and given her lingering hatred toward Su Ziyu, she had ample motive.
Without delay, the director had someone summon Cai Xiaojing inside.
The moment the woman stepped through the door, a flicker of panic crossed her face, but she quickly composed herself and demanded defiantly, "Director, why did you call me here? This has nothing to do with me!"
"Is that so? Then explain what you were doing lingering in the pharmacy while they were picking up their prescription." Xia Yu stared at her with a wicked smile. "Cai Xiaojing, it seems you didn't learn your lesson from the bar last time."
"I advise you to confess honestly. Perhaps you can still receive a lenient punishment."
"Y-what are you talking about? It has nothing to do with me in the first place, what punishment?" Cai Xiaojing blustered defensively, her guilt showing. "I went to get medicine too. You aren't going to suspect me just because of that, are you?"
"Director, Ziyu was the one who prescribed the wrong medicine, what does that have to do with me?"
The director wore a stern face. "We checked the prescription Ziyu wrote, and there were no errors. The medicine inside the packages was swapped."
"Our colleagues at the pharmacy have no reason to do such a thing, and you happened to be in there. Therefore, you need to provide an explanation."
Cai Xiaojing put on an innocent look. "Director, you are wronging me terribly. There's no rule saying I can't go to the pharmacy, is there?"
"Besides, Director Liu asked me to check if the newly arrived medication had come in. If you don't believe me, ask Director Liu."
"Heh, Cai Xiaojing," Xia Yu sneered. "Do you really think saying that can clear your name?"
