When the other men failed to pursue Lin Yuqing, Xia Yu breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed they really were after him.

The car maintained a moderate speed. After testing them for a while, Xia Yu roughly determined that they were not the same group as last time.

The men from before had been quite capable and had caused him no small amount of trouble. These pursuers, by contrast, seemed like amateurs.

There was no need to keep playing cat and mouse with them, so he accelerated.

“Hey, Brother Bin, why is this guy driving farther and farther into the wilderness?” the driver asked in puzzlement. “This is Nameless Mountain, isn’t it? It’s so remote—there’s no one around.”

“Usually, a bunch of rich kids come here to race for fun. Could he be here to race too?”

“Shut up. Do you see anyone racing now? Don’t lose him.” The burly man in the passenger seat cursed.

Yet even he was slightly puzzled. What was this fellow doing in such a godforsaken place?

“Stay alert. I heard this kid knows a few moves.”

“Don’t worry, Brother Bin. We’re all armed. No matter how good he is, can he really be faster than a bullet?” the two men in the back said contemptuously.

“Damn, he’s fast...”

The driver suddenly cried out. Xia Yu’s sports car had abruptly accelerated, and in the blink of an eye, even its taillights had vanished from sight.

“Shut up, all of you!” Zheng Bin roared. “I told you to drive properly and not lose him. Otherwise, none of us will be able to answer for it. Hurry up and catch him!”

The driver immediately sped up as well. When they reached halfway up the mountain, they suddenly saw the sports car stopped on a small hill ahead.

“Huh? Why did he stop?” the driver asked, bewildered.

“Get out and take a look. Be careful.”

The men drew pistols from their waists and climbed out of the car.

Keeping their guns trained on the sports car, they shouted, “Kid in the car, come out right now!”

Hidden among the trees beside the road, Xia Yu frowned when he saw that every one of them was armed. He had only the short blade he carried close to his body. After all, this was a country where an ordinary civilian could hardly be expected to carry a gun.

“Brother Bin, there’s no one in the car.”

“Then where is he?”

The four men approached the sports car and found it completely empty. Panic immediately seized them.

“Hey. I’m over here.”

Xia Yu suddenly appeared. Even with guns, he was confident he could deal with these idiots.

All four men turned toward him and shouted at once, “Take him out!”

They raised their weapons and pulled the triggers.

“Bang, bang, bang...”

The gunshots echoed through the mountains before gradually fading away. But Xia Yu had already disappeared.

“That bastard’s lucky. How did we miss him?” Zheng Bin said with a frown. “This place is huge. Spread out and search!”

“If you see him, shoot immediately. The rest of us will rush over to help.”

The others nodded and split up at once.

“How are we supposed to find him in this darkness?” a tall man grumbled irritably. He gripped his gun nervously, never noticing the figure quietly sliding down from a tree behind him.

“Didn’t your teachers ever tell you not to wander around in the dark?”

A mocking voice sounded behind him. The man’s entire body stiffened. Just as he turned around, someone seized him in a ruthless chokehold, and a cold, razor-sharp blade slipped across his throat.

He tried to speak, but no sound came out. He collapsed heavily, only then catching sight of a handsome yet sinister young man smiling down at him.

“Bang!”

Xia Yu picked up the gun from the ground and pulled the trigger. He had never shown mercy to anyone who wanted him dead. To do so would be cruelty toward himself. That was the law of the battlefield.

After firing, he climbed back into the tree behind him.

“Where is he?”

“Judging by the sound, he should be right around here.”

The other three men, drawn by the gunshot, looked around warily.

“Brother Bin, come quick! It’s Yu Zi!”

At last, one of them discovered their fallen companion.

“Yu Zi is dead!” the man cried out in shock.

The others quickly gathered around him. Zheng Bin snarled, “Stay close and don’t split up again. That bastard knows what he’s doing. When I catch him, I’ll tear the skin off his body myself!”

“Too bad you’re still far too green.”

A cold voice drifted down from the tree. Before the men could react, Xia Yu pulled the trigger.

“Bang, bang, bang...”

Three shots rang out in succession. Two men fell instantly, while Zheng Bin was struck in the arm holding his gun. He cried out in pain.

“Boom!”

A figure leapt down from the tree and kicked him squarely in the face, sending him sprawling.

Xia Yu picked up the fallen gun, walked over, and looked down at him with amused contempt.

“With skills like yours, you still thought you could carry out an assassination? Tell me—who sent you?”

“Hmph! You killed several of my brothers. Do you really think I’ll tell you anything?” Zheng Bin replied, his face swollen and bruised.

“Heh.” Xia Yu chuckled twice. “I suggest you stop pretending to be some kind of tough guy in front of me. Just now, you said you’d tear me apart while I was still alive. Do you want to experience it yourself? I’m very good at it. I guarantee that before you die, you’ll see exactly how your own skin is peeled away.”

Zheng Bin shuddered and stared at Xia Yu in terror. Though the young man was smiling, some instinct told him that this was no empty threat.

“If I tell you, will you let me go?” He gave in. He deeply regretted losing his brothers, but he wanted to live even more.

“Go on,” Xia Yu replied.

“Old Master Liang sent us. The Liang family wants you dead!”

The Liang family?

Xia Yu paused for a moment, though he was not particularly surprised. These men were obviously bodyguards, and there was a clear difference between them and professional assassins.

It seemed the Liang family truly could not tolerate his existence. They had begun trying to eliminate him through such underhanded means.

Unfortunately for them, they were still far too inexperienced to play at assassination in front of Xia Yu.

“All right. You can die now. I’ll make it quick.”

Xia Yu raised the gun and aimed it at his head.

Terrified, Zheng Bin stumbled backward. “No! You promised to let me go! You can’t go back on your word!”

“Heh. You actually believed an enemy’s promise? In your next life, try not to be so foolish.”

Xia Yu fired without hesitation. He was not merciful enough to spare someone who had tried to kill him.

“Come to Nameless Mountain and collect the bodies!”

“If there’s a next time, you’d better wash your own neck clean as well.”

He took the phone from Zheng Bin’s pocket and sent a message to the Liang family, issuing them a stern warning.

As soon as he stepped out of the forest, both his legs suddenly locked in place. He raised his head and stared fixedly ahead.

A figure dressed in white was sitting atop his car, holding a massive saber nearly a meter long.

The stranger wore a half-mask. Long hair fell across his eyes, fluttering in the wind.

Xia Yu’s brows drew tightly together. He sensed an intense threat emanating from the man.

“Who are you?”

Xia Yu gripped his short blade. He regretted not picking up the gun just now.

“The man who’s going to kill you.”

“Were you sent by the Liang family too?”

The stranger lifted his head, revealing the face of a man in his thirties. Only half of it was visible, but his handsome features were unmistakable.

“No.”

Xia Yu slowly turned the short blade in his hand.

“Then who sent you? Have I really offended that many people?”

“I have no need to answer your questions.”

Clutching the great saber, the man slowly rose to his feet.
