Chapter 140: The Mysterious Expert
"Don't worry, Boss He. I won't let you lose."
Xia Yu smiled nonchalantly, seeing the nervous expression on the other man's face.
"Heh, and why should a young man like you expect me to trust you? Tonight's boxing match isn't child's play, if you'll pardon my bluntness."
"We don't see any sign of ability in you," a burly man in his thirties snorted.
The others clearly shared his sentiment; they saw no aura of a fighter in Xia Yu. He looked far too ordinary. To say nothing of stepping into the ring, they weren't even sure he could handle one of their henchmen.
"Shut up! How dare you be disrespectful to Young Master Yu..." He Dong glared angrily at the man, terrified that Xia Yu might take offense.
"It's fine. Everyone is just getting to know me, so skepticism is natural," Xia Yu said, a corner of his mouth curling upward. "But let me tell you why you should believe in me."
"Because my name is Xia Yu!"
The group fell silent, stunned by Xia Yu's confidence and audacity.
"Young Master Yu... then, I leave it to you." He Dong offered an awkward smile. Since Xia Yu had put it that way, he had no choice but to trust him. Still, he felt uneasy, harboring the same doubts as the others. Could a top-tier young master, born with a silver spoon in his mouth, actually know how to fight?
As evening fell, Xia Yu joined He Dong and his entourage for dinner before heading to an underground boxing arena. Though underground, it was highly popular within the circle, attracting many from the upper class who enjoyed betting on fights. Through these few boxing venues, He Dong had made a fortune.
As the group stepped out of their cars, a powerful aura emanated from them, causing passersby to scatter.
"Boss." Staff members greeted He Dong respectfully as they entered. They were led directly to a private box where drinks and elaborate snacks were already prepared.
From the box, the entire ring was clearly visible. Hundreds of people had gathered outside, creating a boisterous, chaotic atmosphere. Xia Yu stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, scanning the crowd, secretly surprised that an underground arena could be this popular.
He couldn't help but ask He Wei, who stood nearby, "Young Master He, how much profit does this arena make in a month?"
"You're too kind, Young Master Yu. 'Young Master' is unnecessary; just call me by my name," He Wei replied. "When we first set up this arena, we actually modeled it after the ones in Macau."
"They have several large-scale arenas there that are incredibly popular. Under my father's management over the last few years, this one has developed quite well, bringing in millions in profit each month."
"Millions in profit—that's a lucrative business." Xia Yu nodded slightly. For a venue of this scale, that was a respectable monthly return. After all, many mid-sized companies struggled to earn that much in a year.
"You flatter us, Young Master Yu. Compared to your family's wealth, this is merely a drop in the ocean," He Wei chuckled.
Xia Yu smiled but said nothing. He Wei watched him quietly; the match was about to begin, yet Xia Yu showed no signs of tension. He couldn't help but sigh in admiration—truly the young master of the Xia family. That level of composure was something most people couldn't cultivate, especially at such a spirited age.
The preliminary matches were already underway, but everyone knew the main event was saved for last. Even so, the crowd was already whipped into a frenzy. He Dong and his men kept their eyes on Xia Yu from start to finish, growing more anxious as the time approached. Yet, seeing his calm, undisturbed demeanor, they felt a sliver of reassurance.
"Everyone, take a five-minute break. The main event is coming up next."
"First, the challenger is Xu Minjie, a veteran field fighter who has come here with a reputation from the provincial capital."
"The defender is not the Muay Thai expert Chatchai as many of you expected, but a mysterious master specially invited by the arena owner."
"Let's wait and see who it is. We will take a five-minute break to let the two fighters prepare."
The ring announcer spoke into the microphone, and the crowd erupted in excitement. This showdown was rumored to be more than just a boxing match; it was a challenge to He Dong's status in the underworld. Everyone was waiting with bated breath.
"Young Master Yu, are you really sure about this?" He Dong stood up, still looking worried.
Xia Yu smiled without answering, though the audacity in his eyes grew more apparent. He Dong said no more and signaled He Wei to escort him down.
In another box, several elegantly dressed young men sat, each with a beautiful woman by his side. Bai Yunfeng laughed dismissively. "A 'mysterious master,' how interesting."
"What mysterious master? It's just a hired gun He Dong brought in. No matter how good he is, he won't be a match for the brother you have with you," Sang Biao sneered.
Standing beside Bai Yunfeng was a tall, powerfully built man with clearly defined muscles. He wore a black tank top, revealing several knife scars and even bullet holes across his chest and shoulders. His sharp eyes were as bloodthirsty as a wild wolf.
"Minjie, it’s time for your performance. Give this mysterious master a proper welcome," Bai Yunfeng said, picking up a glass of red wine with a smirk.
"Understood!"
The man, Xu Minjie, nodded slightly before jumping directly from the private box's window.
*Thud, thud, thud...*
He landed in the spectator seating, startling many, and before anyone could react, he had vaulted onto the ring.
"Damn, that’s savage," Sang Biao gasped. "Young Master Bai, having a master like Brother Xu by your side is like adding wings to a tiger. If I had someone like that under my command, I would have taken over Shenzhen by now!"
Bai Yunfeng smiled proudly. "Of course. I paid a high price to bring Minjie over from the field combat team."
Sang Biao looked on with envy. Xu Minjie stood steadily in the ring as the crowd broke into gasps, instantly becoming the center of attention. That entrance was just too fierce!
In another box, Gu Ying's eyes lit up. "I didn't expect to see a master like this at an underground boxing match! A-San, what do you think?"
A-San, standing nearby, remained expressionless. "Miss, based on what I see, he is indeed a master, but whether he is a match for me is another matter."
"You're at it again." Gu Ying rolled her eyes at him. He was strong, she couldn't deny that, but he was far too arrogant.
In the ring, Xu Minjie lifted his head arrogantly and made a throat-slitting gesture toward the entrance where his opponent would appear. Then, he said impatiently to the announcer, "Tell him to hurry up and get out here! I don't want to waste any more time!"
"Whoa..."
"A master is a master; that aura is truly something else."
"No wonder he dared to challenge Boss He; he's no ordinary man."
Xu Minjie's words sent the crowd into another frenzy. Even the announcer felt the pressure radiating from the fighter and said into the microphone:
"Very well! If the mysterious master is ready, please come out to face your challenger!"
As soon as he finished, everyone turned their eyes toward the entrance, waiting for the mysterious master to appear.
