Chapter 138: Pleading for Remarriage
One weekend, while Xia Yu was playing games with Liu Xiaomi, his phone rang.
Seeing that it was a call from Lin Yuxin, he was greatly surprised; he had assumed he would never receive a call from her again for the rest of his life.
"Xiaomi, play by yourself for a bit. Godfather needs to take a call."
Xia Yu ruffled her hair and walked out into the yard.
"What is it?"
"Xia Yu, I want to see you."
Lin Yuxin’s response was straightforward.
"Oh." He chuckled and said, "Are you planning another 'Hongmen Banquet' for me this time? Can’t you come up with some other tricks?"
"No, you’ve misunderstood. I’m meeting you alone this time, and I have something to discuss with you." Lin Yuxin sneered, "I’m not even afraid to meet you alone; you don’t lack even that much courage, do you?"
"Interesting, you want to see me alone?" Xia Yu said with genuine curiosity. "Fine, where?"
"Pick any place you like; I’ll come to you."
Xia Yu paused for a moment. It seemed she really intended to come alone, which piqued his curiosity. Given their current relationship, he was genuinely curious about what she could possibly want.
He suggested a café in the city center.
After hanging up, he walked back inside and said, "Xiaomi, play at home for a while. Godfather has to go out. Just call me if you need anything."
"Go ahead, Godfather. But remember to bring me something delicious!"
Liu Xiaomi smiled sweetly. As their life had improved, the little girl was no longer suffering or being bullied, and she had become much more lively.
Xia Yu drove to the city center and found that Lin Yuxin had arrived even earlier than him, sitting alone in the quietest corner.
He walked straight over, sat opposite her, and crossed his legs.
"Say what you have to say. We shouldn't need to waste time with small talk, should we?"
Lin Yuxin looked at her ex-husband. She couldn't deny that he had truly changed.
"Xia Yu, we were husband and wife once, after all. Isn't it fine to chat a little?"
"You are now the president of Yinghao, and you’ve even made connections with people like Huang Hai and Tan Peng. It really is impressive."
Sensing the hidden meaning in her words, Xia Yu looked stunned, then gave a mocking smile. "Husband and wife once? Haven't you been trying your hardest to deny our marriage all this time?"
"What’s gotten into you today? Why are you speaking to me so gently?"
"You..."
Lin Yuxin glared at him in embarrassed rage. She looked ready to snap, but she quickly calmed herself down.
"Xia Yu, I know I was a bit excessive in the past, but don't forget, when you were in the Lin family, I was the one supporting you. It’s true that I gave you pocket money every month, right?"
"I did the laundry and cooking for your whole family. A nanny would cost thousands a month for that. Should I be grateful to you for giving me a few hundred?" Xia Yu retorted with a sneer. "Enough, Lin Yuxin. We know each other well enough; just say what you have to say. No need to beat around the bush."
"Are you trying to play the emotional card by bringing up the past? Sorry, but that marriage only brings up anger whenever it’s mentioned."
"So, if you’re really trying to sway me with this, it’s honestly quite foolish."
"You..."
Lin Yuxin suppressed her anger once again and forced a smile.
"Fine, Xia Yu. I came to see you today just to talk calmly."
"I know you’re doing all this to take revenge on me. That proves you still have me in your heart, and that you still love me, right?"
Xia Yu was momentarily stunned before he burst out laughing. "Yuxin, are you feeling alright?"
"Still love you? Do you really think I ever loved you?"
"Are you trying to make peace because you’re afraid of me now?"
Lin Yuxin’s expression turned ugly, and she gritted her teeth. This was the loser who used to look like a stray dog in her eyes. He used to only have the option of groveling at her feet, yet now, even when she treated him with such kindness, he treated her with disdain.
This stark contrast made her feel incredibly uncomfortable.
"No, Xia Yu, let me be honest with you."
Lin Yuxin suddenly grabbed his hand, her voice filled with agitation. "The reason I came to see you alone is to tell you that, in truth, you have always been in my heart."
"After all, we were married for a year, and it was my fault before."
"But I know I was wrong now. Please, give me a chance to make it up to you. I will love you well."
"Can we remarry?"
Xia Yu was left speechless, staring straight at her as she put on a display of heartfelt emotion. Had he not personally witnessed her acting skills before, he might have actually believed her.
But now, he pulled his hand away without mercy and sneered, "Lin Yuxin, are you childish, or am I just too naive?"
"Remarry? How could you even say that out loud?"
"Let me guess."
Xia Yu rubbed his chin, his tone mocking. "I’m guessing I’m right—your position as Mrs. Liang is no longer secure, is it?"
"It seems my warning to Old Master Liang was very effective. A woman known by all to be rotten."
"Promiscuous and vicious—how could a prestigious family like the Liangs ever tolerate you?"
"Now that you have nowhere to run, you’re afraid of being kicked out by the Liang family. Seeing that I have the backing of people like Xiao Jun and Huang Hai, you come back here to say these disgusting things and beg for a reconciliation."
"Lin Yuxin, I have to admire you again. Who knew a person could be this shameless!"
Having her true intentions mercilessly exposed by Xia Yu, Lin Yuxin trembled with rage.
She was right; that was exactly what she was thinking. Judging by Old Master Liang’s attitude, even if Liang Zichao could persuade him to let her stay in the Liang family, she would never have the status she deserved. She would always be an outsider who was despised. If that were the case, would staying in the Liang family even mean anything?
Although Xia Yu’s current success relied on others, he had still achieved it. To put it bluntly, being with Xia Yu now was better than being with Liang Zichao.
But now, Xia Yu not only rejected her but also humiliated her.
Lin Yuxin balled her hands into fists and glared at him. "Xia Yu, isn't my situation today all because of you?!"
"You loser, without Xiao Jun, you are nothing. Don't think I don't know that you’re just a pawn he’s using against the Liang family."
"What right do you have to humiliate me? Even at my worst, I’m still better than a spineless coward like you!"
"Heh, so what?" Xia Yu lifted the corner of his mouth. "Lin Yuxin, when we divorced, I told you that you would regret it!"
"The outcome you're facing now is entirely of your own making. Don't blame anyone else."
Lin Yuxin’s eyes turned red as she trembled. "Then I’ll tell you this: you will regret it too!"
"If you won't let me have a good life, don't think you'll have one either! Xia Yu, just you wait!"
She grabbed the coffee from the table and threw it at Xia Yu’s face.
Fortunately, Xia Yu’s reflexes were sharp, and he dodged to the side.
By the time he recovered, she had already left in a fury.
"How hilarious. Does she think 'Brother Yu' is a scrap collector?"
Xia Yu brushed off his clothes and picked up the other cup of coffee on the table to take a sip.
Seeing Lin Yuxin’s current predicament, he felt not a shred of sympathy.
"Yuxin, you chose this path yourself."
"You are the first person in the world to cheat on the King of the Northern Territory. Not letting you die a miserable death is already an act of mercy."
