Hearing those girls blatantly flirting and striking up a conversation with Xia Yu, Li Shen and the others nearby were left dumbfounded. Especially Chen Fei, whose face darkened to the extreme; she recognized the car Xia Yu was driving—a Alphard, a luxury business vehicle favored by many top executives.
"Damn, I didn’t even notice before that Xia Yu actually arrived in such a nice car," Li Shen finally realized and couldn’t help but remark.
Xia Yu wasn’t interested in joking around with those girls; he started the car and drove off immediately.
Watching his car disappear into the distance, Li Shen teased, "Feifei, don’t you regret not going on a date with my buddy?"
"Otherwise, you’d already be cruising around with him in that car. Should I call him back now?"
Chen Fei snapped back with disdain once she came to her senses: "What’s the big deal? A driver for someone else’s car—that means it’s not his."
"If those girls knew he was just a broke loser, would they still pay him any attention? Hmph."
"Actually, my buddy isn’t that bad. He’s quite handsome," Li Shen stubbornly defended Xia Yu.
"Forget it, looking good but useless—doesn’t that still make him a loser?" Chen Fei sneered. "Do you think a loser deserves someone like me?"
"Alright, I won’t say anything more," Li Shen was speechless.
The next day.
Wang Dong sat in the company office, chatting with Wu Tian on WeChat.
"Wu Zi, I’ve done some digging."
"Guess what? That useless Xia Yu barely has any presence in our circle. Lots of people know him though; they say he used to be a live-in son-in-law to the Lin family and was later dumped by Lin Yuxin."
"Haha, after hearing the full story, I actually feel a bit sorry for the guy. It’s tragic—his wife was stolen by Young Master Liang. I wonder if Sijie knows about all this."
Wu Tian laughed heartily. "So we were really overthinking this guy; he’s got no background?"
"The thing at the restaurant yesterday was probably just luck?"
"Yeah, I couldn’t find out which boss he drives for, so he probably has no real clout," Wang Dong said. "He just happened to know Huang Hai, who lent him some face."
"That makes sense," Wu Tian gritted his teeth. "Damn, he’s just lucky to have made fools of us."
"Heh, don’t rush. There’s a chance now to take back the scene and let Sijie see with her own eyes how humiliating it is to be with this loser," Wang Dong smirked wickedly.

"The day after tomorrow, Jin Hai and Ying Hao are co-hosting a gala. Lots of people will be there to support it. I believe a big shot like Liang Zichao will be attending as well."
"Besides, his ex-wife Lin Yuxin will definitely show up when she sees Xia Yu. Should be quite a show, hehe…"
...
That evening, with nothing pressing, Xia Yu went punctually to pick up Zhao Sijie from work.
"Brother Yu, you’re here!" Zhao Sijie ran up happily, wrapping her arm around his and smiling sweetly.
"Alright, let’s go. I’ll take you out to eat," Xia Yu nodded.
"By the way, I have something to tell you."
Once in the car, Zhao Sijie sighed, "Brother Yu, this afternoon Wang Dong, Lily, and their classmates invited me to a gala."
"I didn’t want to go at first, but they said it’s a great learning opportunity. It’s all high society people attending."
"I felt bad refusing, so I agreed. Plus, they said you could come along and check it out. What do you think?"
Xia Yu was momentarily stunned, then asked in surprise, "Is it the gala co-hosted by Jin Hai and Ying Hao?"
"Exactly, that’s what they said. How do you know?" Zhao Sijie was puzzled.
"I heard it mentioned before," Xia Yu smiled. "Since you’re going, I’ll go with you."
"Yeah, Jin Hai and Ying Hao both run powerful enterprises. Wang Dong really has some skills to get an invite," Zhao Sijie nodded. "It’ll be good to experience it, see how these successful people network."
"Heh, it’s just a bunch of people getting together to brag and chat. Don’t put them on too high a pedestal," Xia Yu replied.
Just as he started the car, Zhao Sijie’s phone rang. She answered with curiosity, "Who’s this?"
"Ah, Su Yao, is that really you?!"
"Alright, alright, just wait."
"I’ll bring him over, okay?"
After hanging up, Xia Yu asked puzzled, "Who was that? You sounded so excited."
"She was a very good friend and classmate of mine, but she moved abroad with her family early on," Zhao Sijie smiled. "She came back once when I was in college, so we reconnected. She and Yuqing are both my close sisters."
"She just called saying she’s back in the country now and wants me to meet up. And she specifically asked me to bring you along."

"Uh… why does she want to see me?" Xia Yu asked, scratching his head.
"Because she’s been asking about you ever since I started dating you," Zhao Sijie blushed. "I even told her… quite impressive things about you—that you speak eight languages and work as a translator and driver."
"So, please don’t mess up later or I’ll be the one embarrassed."
"Heh, you women..." Xia Yu laughed helplessly.
"Brother Yu, you’re not mad, are you?" Zhao Sijie nervously explained. "I’m not looking down on you. It’s just… I don’t want them to see you with biased eyes."
"Why would I mind? What are you thinking?" Xia Yu reached out to ruffle her hair.
He completely understood Zhao Sijie; after all, no one wants their boyfriend to be constantly treated like a worthless loser.
Everyone has feelings. No matter how innocent, people naturally care about dignity and face.
Besides, Xia Yu really does speak eight languages!
Su Yao had just returned to the country and was temporarily staying in a luxury apartment. When they arrived, Zhao Sijie spotted her even before getting out of the car and called out through the window.
No wonder she just came back from overseas—dressed in a European style, long blonde hair, fair skin, and beautiful—a stunning woman.
Seeing Xia Yu’s car, her eyes brightened, silently nodding to herself, thinking Zhao Sijie hadn’t lied.
Getting out of the car, Zhao Sijie eagerly ran over.
"My dear, long time no see."
"Long time no see, I missed you so much."
The two women embraced tightly while Xia Yu stood aside, not wanting to interrupt.
Once the hug ended, Su Yao looked Xia Yu over carefully and teasingly said, "Sijie, is this your boyfriend? He’s pretty handsome."
"Brother Yu, this is my good friend Su Yao," Zhao Sijie hurriedly introduced.
Remembering her words, Xia Yu immediately transformed into a gentleman, stepping forward and naturally extending his hand in English. "Hello, Miss Su. It’s a pleasure to meet you. Just call me Xia Yu."
Su Yao was briefly taken aback, then shook his hand and replied in English, "Your English is so fluent. Have you lived abroad too?"
"Yes, for a few years," Xia Yu smiled.
