Chapter 142: Demanding Justice
Tie Fan naturally had no idea that Yun Zui had already laid her cards on the table with them, and the lingering troubles regarding the Lingyou Hall were giving him a massive headache.
"Alas, I was actually thrown out by the Master of Lingyou Hall." It was a deeply humiliating thing to admit, but sharing it with his wife, Yun Shang, was at least safe.
Yun Shang let out an astonished gasp, then asked, "Weren't we in the right this time? Why were you thrown out?"
Yun Shang spoke rather loudly. Earlier, Tie Fan had been whispering to her so that only she would know, but now that she blurted it out like this, every member of the Yun family present heard it instantly.
Tie Fan shot Yun Shang a fierce glare. Could she not be a little more discreet?
Realizing she had indeed acted far too ungracefully, Yun Shang could not help but purse her lips in a pout.
"What on earth is going on here?" Dou Saiqi walked over from the outer room.
They had all assumed they could finally use the Lingyou Hall to deal Yun Zui a fatal blow this time, yet by the looks of it, Tie Fan seemed to have suffered a crushing defeat?
"Sigh, it's a long story..." Tie Fan really didn't want to bring it up, but how on earth was he supposed to scrape together one million taels?
It was an agonizingly painful problem.
"Then make the long story short." Yun Tai sat in the armchair inside the room, looking rather burdened with worry.
Hearing this, Tie Fan hesitated. Originally, the jewelry recently bestowed upon him by the Emperor could have provided a temporary cushion, but now the Master of Lingyou Hall had dropped a bombshell demand of one million taels. What was he supposed to do?
If he didn't speak up, he wouldn't be able to get any help from the Prime Minister's Estate. But if he did, it was simply too disgraceful.
His heart was locked in a fierce struggle, but in the end, he decided it was better to come clean.
Stepping further into the room, Tie Fan faced Yun Tai and slowly began to speak, "Father-in-law, that Hall Master claimed that Yun Zui is not a human, but rather a resurrected ghost and demon. He said that hiring him to hunt down a ghost was nothing short of making a fool of him, and on top of that, he pinned the losses of the Lingyou Hall's assassins entirely on me. He demanded one million taels in compensation, or else..."
He cast a timid glance at Yun Shang and trailed off.
Yun Shang's brows were already tightly furrowed as she immediately demanded, "Or else what?!"
They could easily guess that it certainly wouldn't be anything good.
"Indeed, brother-in-law, hurry up and tell us," Yun Xi urged, growing anxious.
"He said..." Under the collective gaze of everyone in the room, Tie Fan slowly spat out the truth, "He said he would invite a few assassins over to the General's Estate for a little visit."
As these words fell, Yun Shang suddenly slammed her fist down hard onto the nearby table, crying out, "This is simply too bullying!"
Yun Tai's expression, however, remained extremely profound and dark, as if he were deep in contemplation.
Yun Shang had a fiery temper, much like the bright crimson color she adored—blazing like a raging inferno.
"Don't think our General's Estate is afraid of him! I'm going to find him!" With that, Yun Shang turned as if she were about to storm off to the Lingyou Hall.
Tie Fan moved instantly to grab and hold her back. If he himself had been tossed out so easily, wouldn't going there now mean Yun Shang would walk in vertically and be carried out horizontally?
"Halt!" Yun Tai's voice rang out with a stern and authoritative tone, stopping her in her tracks.
Yun Shang's footsteps froze instantly, and she protested indignantly, "I simply cannot swallow this anger!"
Yun Tai glared fiercely at Yun Shang, then rebuked her sharply, "Just who do you think he is? He is the master of the Lingyou Hall, the largest assassin organization! When he says something like that, he undoubtedly means it and will follow through! If you go make a scene now, there's no guarantee you'll even return alive!"
Yun Shang's mood instantly soured even further, and she cried out rebelliously and defiantly, "I don't care! I'm going to take troops with me! I demand justice!"
