Chapter 137: How Shall I Settle Accounts with You?
Under the cover of night, Tie Fan returned to the Lingyou Hall, where he had suffered a miserable defeat last time. Yet, rather than fear, he carried an air of righteous confidence.
In a spacious courtyard, guards clad in tight silver suits and masks stood in rigid, solemn rows. A piercing aura of slaughter and a profound, bone-chilling stillness permeated the air.
Walking through this place, Tie Fan felt a pressure even greater than that of the battlefield. But he was a general; though he had lost all face on his previous visit, this time everything should go smoothly.
Ten meters ahead stood a raised platform, upon which a mysterious pavilion had been erected.
Silks and curtains drifted in the breeze, faintly revealing the graceful and alluring silhouette of a person within. That was the master of the Lingyou Hall, and Tie Fan truly believed the master to be a woman.
"Yun Zui's assassination was unsuccessful. I demand that elite assassins be dispatched once more. Furthermore, since your Lingyou Hall has failed again and again, I demand compensation and a refund!"
Gone was Tie Fan's previous anxiety as he made his righteous demands.
Inside the curtains, all remained quiet. The graceful figure did not stir in the slightest, leaving one to wonder if the master had fallen asleep.
Ling Yuan lazily opened his autumn-water-clear eyes. He said Yun Zui was not dead?!
Yun Zui was clearly supposed to be one of those ice-cold beauties by now; how could she not be dead?
"What proof do you have that she is not dead?" Ling Yuan had no desire to converse, but Tie Fan's words touched upon the startling revelation of Yun Zui's survival, prompting him to speak with a hint of curiosity.
"Do you still need proof? Today, Yun Zui openly entered the imperial palace and even obtained a death-pardon medallion along with an entry token!" Tie Fan was dumbfounded. How could Ling Yuan be completely unaware of something as major as Yun Zui still being alive?
He began to doubt Ling Yuan's competence.
A flash of surprise crossed Ling Yuan's beautiful eyes. That was impossible...
He had personally placed Yun Zui into the ice coffin himself; how could she not be dead?
As if to verify this, Ling Yuan immediately straightened his lazy posture, his figure flashing swiftly through the fluttering curtains.
Tie Fan's gaze had been fixed firmly on the curtains ahead. Seeing a figure flash rapidly out from behind them, he could not help but be stunned.
Where on earth was Ling Yuan going?
Why had he left directly without even a word of explanation?
Ling Yuan hurried to the massive underground chamber, then triggered the wall carved with intricate patterns. Navigating past the rows of ice coffins, he quickly reached the one that had held Yun Zui.
To his utter shock and disbelief, Yun Zui's figure was truly nowhere to be found inside!
How had she gotten out?!
Why had he known nothing about it?
It was simply too bizarre!
Who could explain the whole course of these events to him?!
Having confirmed that Yun Zui was indeed gone, Ling Yuan drifted back like a ghost behind the curtains of the courtyard.
Seeing Ling Yuan return, Tie Fan's eyes flickered.
He assumed Ling Yuan had merely stepped away to relieve himself. Heh, nature called everyone, after all; he understood.
"Hall Master, how are you going to give me an explanation for this!"
Ling Yuan reclined once more. Through the curtains, he could clearly see Tie Fan's face, while remaining completely invisible from the outside.
Failing to assassinate a single target four times over was an unprecedented first for the Lingyou Hall.
"Yun Zui was buried with the late emperor a year ago; she is already a corpse. Yet she resurrected a year later. She is no longer merely human. You, a general, are asking this hall to assassinate a reborn ghost—are you mocking this hall master? Moreover, this hall has suffered the loss of one low-level assassin, three mid-level assassins, twenty-five top-level assassins, and finally, three elite assassins! With losses of this magnitude, how does this hall master ought to settle accounts with you?!"
