Chapter 129: Never Forget to Be Calculating

Chi Mie was not entirely certain that Tie Fan’s finger was truly problematic; he merely found it suspicious, nothing more than a slight doubt. Seeing Yun Yao so urgently trying to stop him only made things seem even more questionable. However, he had no desire to waste time quarreling with Tie Fan over this matter, so he decided to let him off the hook. Yet, he did not forget his inherently cunning nature and seized the opportunity to extort a hefty sum.
Tie Fan felt a bead of sweat trickle down his forehead—this Chi Mie was incredibly opportunistic! But if he refused, and Chi Mie insisted on taking the wolf away, his secret would be exposed. So, he endured it despite his outrage, powerless against Chi Mie’s tactics.
Hearing Chi Mie say he wanted to eat wolf meat, Chi Yuan, who had been hiding, immediately popped up, eager to join in: “Bring one back for me as well! I want to taste wolf meat too!”
Chi Mie gave Chi Yuan a cold glance, utterly speechless. His claim to want wolf meat was actually a test for Tie Fan; he had no real interest in it. Only this Chi Yuan, both foolish and endearing, actually believed him.
But the next moment, Chi Mie was utterly dumbfounded as other ministers began to chime in: “I have never tasted wolf meat either; perhaps I should take one as well.”
One minister spoke up, and others eagerly followed suit: “I’ll take one too.”
The Chancellor, seeing everyone so enthusiastic, couldn’t help but say, “The Chancellor will take one as well.” His tone was tinged with helplessness, and the corner of his mouth twitched.

He knew the entire plan from start to finish and was at a loss as to how it had spiraled into this farce because of Chi Mie.
Chi Xuan smiled awkwardly and then added, “I would like to try some too…”
Thus, the ministers all received wolf carcasses, though some missed out and could only sigh in regret.
Yun Shang and Yun Yao watched the whole scene coldly, feeling it was nothing more than a ridiculous charade. These ministers were truly sycophantic.
With matters settled peacefully, Madam Dou Saiqi, the Chancellor’s wife, let out a breath of relief.
Fortunately, it had all ended without incident; Chi Mie had not pursued the matter further.
And so, the affair was quietly laid to rest.
After dinner and a bath, Yun Zui was overjoyed because her grandfather, Yun Kong, had not died but had also been transported to this world. She was ecstatic.
From now on, in the Kingdom of Mo Chi, Yun Zui was no longer alone—she had family! Though Yun Kong forbade her from acknowledging him openly, Yun Zui was content. It felt as though heaven itself was favoring her.
Delighted, Yun Zui sat atop the roof, raised her wine cup toward the moon hanging in the night sky, and joyfully exclaimed, “Cheers!”

Then she drank it all down in one gulp…
After finishing, Yun Zui smiled foolishly with joy, making one wonder if she had ever been a mercenary at all!
Ha, not in the slightest!
Because she had drunk a bit too much the previous night, Yun Zui felt a slight headache, but it was nothing serious.
Rising, she changed into a dark-colored long dress, styled her hair simply into a bun, and then stepped outside.
She had stayed in that mansion the night before, but she was about to return to the Chancellor’s residence soon.
After breakfast, Yun Zui gave instructions to Xiao Tianming and then departed.
In truth, Yun Zui was not heading straight back to the Chancellor’s residence but was going directly to the imperial palace.
However, the palace was not a place anyone could enter at will.
Although she was the Imperial Noble Consort, entry was granted only by recognition of official badges, not by identity.
Still, Yun Zui had arranged to meet the national teacher of Xi Kong, and they agreed to convene outside the palace gates at this very hour.
