Chapter 100: Leaving Without a Word (3)

Yun Zui lazily toyed with Chi Xuan’s schemes and said something quite harsh: “If I don’t participate, what am I supposed to eat?” Since the cook wasn’t preparing meals today, and she hadn’t joined the hunt, it was obvious she wouldn’t have anything to eat. Chi Xuan’s lips twitched involuntarily; he really shouldn’t have said more. Yun Zui averted her gaze and noticed Chi Mie watching her. She deliberately ignored him. By now, her lips, treated with Chi Mie’s ointment, were no longer swollen or red. With no further objections from anyone, they each set off.
Besides carrying a bow and arrows on her back, Yun Zui also had a dagger tucked into her boot. The hairpins she used to tie up her hair were all coated with poison, and she carried plenty of poisoned arrows as well. She had made every possible preparation.
Walking on the forest floor, her feet pressed on a thick layer of fallen leaves, rustling softly. Yun Zui had no intention of seriously hunting; she was merely going through the motions. Finding a large, leafy tree, she tossed out an iron hook. After spinning several times, it caught on a branch. Using the momentum, she stepped on the trunk and gracefully vaulted up, swinging onto the branch with ease.
After climbing onto the branch, she found a comfortable spot and tied herself to the tree with the rope attached to the iron hook to prevent falling asleep and tumbling down. She had no interest in hunting; she just needed food. She carried three wild fruits with her, believing they would sustain her for a while.

Slowly closing her eyes, Yun Zui wanted to drift off into a deep sleep. The surroundings were quiet, with only an occasional bird call, which didn’t disturb her rest. Time passed moment by moment. Just as she was about to fall asleep, noises began below.
At first, the sounds were faint, but then voices emerged. “Wasn’t it supposed to be around here? Where is she?” A deep voice rang out, instantly waking Yun Zui. Looking down, she saw three masked figures clad in tight gray suits searching below. She could sense their martial skills were top-tier; she couldn’t defeat a single one.
They weren’t numerous, but they were elite — each capable of holding off ten ordinary fighters. But from what they said, it was clear someone had leaked her whereabouts. They intended to assassinate her!
Yun Zui’s sharp eyes narrowed. Quietly, she untied the rope binding her and stealthily drew an arrow, aiming at a distant tree. Then she released it forcefully.
The three men were extremely alert. They heard the faint whistle of the arrow slicing through the air and quickly turned to where it had been shot. They tried to pinpoint the arrow’s origin but were misled.

Yun Zui had deliberately made an exaggerated arc with her wrist and arm to deceive them.
Sure enough, they took the bait. But there were three of them; even if she lured them elsewhere, it wouldn’t necessarily be easier to strike.
One of the trio immediately lowered his voice: “Stay hidden!”
They thought Yun Zui had fired a hunting arrow from afar. Watching them split up and hide, a cruel smile curved on Yun Zui’s lips. High above, she could see their forms clearly.
She drew another poisoned arrow, aimed carefully at the one farthest behind, and released it. The arrow tore through the night sky. Though their keen ears detected it, their vision was limited in the darkness, so they couldn’t dodge in time.
A muffled cry of pain—one fell.
The other two were startled. Yun Zui swiftly drew another arrow, taking aim at the next. But their eyes were sharp and fierce; they had already discovered her hiding place!
