Chapter Ninety-One Before anyone could gather their thoughts, a figure arrived on his own.
She truly could not tell what sort of plant this was, for every one of them brimmed with spiritual energy and shone with brilliant light.
Nalan Dijiu led Baili Tianchang by the hand toward that bed of plants.
Then the two of them stopped before it.
Nalan Dijiu’s gaze searched among the plants, as if looking for something.
At last, he reached out toward one plant that glowed with a golden radiance.
But the expected thing did not happen.
That golden plant did not, like the roses and the other flowers, come flying toward Nalan Dijiu on its own as though it had grown legs.
It remained firmly rooted in place, still blazing with dazzling golden light.
“Could it not be picked?”
Baili Tianchang knew this must be the plant Nalan Dijiu had specially sought out for her, and asked with concern.
“I cannot pick it, but perhaps you can, little fairy.”
Nalan Dijiu failed to pluck the plant, yet instead of anger, a smile appeared on his face.
This only confirmed his guess.
“You're far more capable than I am. If even you can't pick it, how could I possibly do it?”
At a glance, this plant was no ordinary thing; it was certainly not something that could be compared to commonplace grasses and flowers.
It must be incomparably sturdy, like iron or steel.
If even someone like Nalan Dijiu could not do anything about it, how could she, a person without any cultivation, hope to pluck it?
“Little fairy, try first and then say so.”
Nalan Dijiu urged her on.
“All right, then.”
Baili Tianchang could only agree despite her uncertainty.
Of course, she did not possess Nalan Dijiu’s ability to take objects from afar.
She stepped forward and drew near to the plant glowing with golden light.
It was shaped like a lotus, though it was not a lotus.
Each of its petals shimmered with a golden radiance.
Within this entire bed of plants, only this blossom was gold.
In other words, it was one of a kind.
Its petals were densely packed, layer upon layer, blooming in overlapping tiers. There must have been several hundred petals in all.
It grew at the very center of these plants, and the stem that bore it seemed like a throne, lifting it aloft.
Seated upon that splendid throne, supported as though by a multitude of stars around the moon, it gave off the aura of a sovereign high above all others, exuding the overwhelming presence of a mighty ruler.
Baili Tianchang reached out her hand toward the golden plant.
Yet what happened next left her utterly stunned.
When her fingers were still a half arm’s length away, though they had not touched the plant in the slightest, though she had made no motion to pluck the golden blossom at all, the flower was suddenly drawn to her like iron to a magnet.
With a soft whoosh, the golden bloom broke from its stem of its own accord and, like a meteor, streaked through a trail of golden light into Baili Tianchang’s palm.
She stood there, completely dumbfounded.
Good heavens, could anyone tell her what on earth had just happened? Why would this beautiful golden flower suddenly leap into her hand for no reason at all?
She was absolutely certain that this body possessed not the slightest trace of cultivation, and that the Dream Tower had not been there to aid her.
