Chapter 39 "Are you trying to ruin your own happiness?"
No matter how she thought about it, Qian Yue Shuang could not resign herself.
“You’re just a woman—what would you know? Let her live for the time being. When the commotion dies down, it won’t be too late to take her life!”
Baili Gang snorted coldly at Qian Yue Shuang.
Oh? Confined to her quarters, not allowed to step outside the door?
How laughable. Baili Gang, you are far too self-assured!
Let me tell you, not only can you not imprison my yearning for freedom and strength, you cannot even restrain my legs!
Baili Tianchang returned to her dilapidated courtyard, satisfied with the gains from her storage ring.
She had intended to investigate the whereabouts of the Violet Jade Exquisite. But it was daytime now, inconvenient for action. Everything would have to wait until nightfall.
The long-awaited night finally arrived.
Baili Tianchang loosened her limbs in the yard, tied her hair up into a simple ponytail, and prepared to go out.
Forgive her.
As someone from the twenty-first century, she truly had no skill in arranging those elaborate ancient hairstyles. No matter the style, she simply couldn’t manage it!
She, the so-called eldest legitimate daughter, the young lady of the household, had not even a single maid at her side. She could only rely on herself, and her hair had but two styles: either let loose or casually tied into a ponytail.
Baili Tianchang had just prepared to push open the door and leave. As she walked along the edge of the courtyard wall, a sudden thud sounded—a person jumped over the crumbling wall.
The newcomer spread his arms, swooping down on her like an eagle upon a chick, and without a word pulled Baili Tianchang into his embrace.
He hugged her tightly from behind, his hands wandering over her.
One hand stroked her silky black hair, the other gripped her fair wrist.
Aunt Zhang was an exceptionally kind woman. After taking in the original Baili Tianchang, she never let her do any hard or menial labor.
Aunt Zhang had said that Baili Tianchang was born a noble lady, since everyone knew that the eldest daughter of the General’s Manor bore a black phoenix-tail butterfly on the left side of her face. Her identity was thus known far and wide.
So Aunt Zhang cared for her meticulously, shielded her well.
Although the original Baili Tianchang had grown up in the countryside, her skin was smooth and delicate, radiant and flawless.
There was something familiar about the aura of the intruder. But Baili Tianchang had no patience to ponder his identity. She promptly raised her foot and, without hesitation, aimed a swift kick between his legs.
“Fairy, that's not right. Are you trying to destroy your own future happiness?”
The man holding her leaped into the air, his hands still refusing to release Baili Tianchang, though his body now hung upside down in midair.
“It’s you?”
Only then did Baili Tianchang rein in her murderous intent.
“Little fairy, is it that you couldn’t wait any longer, so you left to seek me out?”
Nalan Di Jiu landed lightly on the ground, still holding Baili Tianchang tightly, his words teasing.
“Violet Jade Exquisite—have you heard of it?”
Baili Tianchang ignored his banter and asked directly.
“Violet Jade Exquisite?”
Nalan Di Jiu played affectionately with her ponytail.
“My little fairy is interested in the Violet Jade Exquisite?”
“If you know about it, then tell me.”
Baili Tianchang slapped away his hand from her hair and left his embrace.
