Chapter 105: Drink Today, Be Drunk Today
And so, she sat by the campfire, clutching her knees in sorrow, lost in a daze of helplessness.
In that very moment, Nalan Dijiu made a silent vow to himself, a firm decision forged in his heart. His little fairy had endured so much suffering; from this day forward, he would never tolerate anyone harming her again. He, Nalan Dijiu, would cradle his little fairy in the palms of his hands and cherish her as the apple of his eye. All the world must treat her with the same respect and courtesy he showed her; no one would be permitted to slight her, let alone offer her any insult.
At this moment, the woman hiding in the distance, closely observing Nalan Dijiu and Baili Tianchang, remained entirely unaware of the resolution Nalan Dijiu had just reached. She never dreamed that this silent vow held any relevance to her. As she watched the two of them working in intimate harmony to prepare their dinner, a blaze of fury flared up within her, growing hotter with each passing second.
Had her sister not warned her repeatedly before she set out—insisting she remain hidden and only reveal herself at the most critical moment—she would have leapt out then and there to berate that wretched, ugly good-for-nothing. She would have beaten her to a pulp, ensuring she could never again appear before Prince Nine.
What a detestable woman! Fortunately, her sister had told her the truth; otherwise, she would never have known that this useless, ugly creature dared to attempt to seduce Prince Nine. She clutched at the leaves of a nearby tree in her rage, crushing them into powder.
She dared not express her anger too openly, however, for fear of being discovered by Nalan Dijiu. To avoid detection, she stayed far away, restraining her presence as best she could. Nalan Dijiu’s spiritual perception was far too formidable; if she made even the slightest stir, he would surely notice. She could not afford to take such a risk.
"Mmm, it smells so good!" Baili Tianchang took a deep breath, clearly satisfied with the dinner she had prepared. It was a triumph—a success beyond measure! "Smell it, isn't it fragrant?" she asked Nalan Dijiu with deep contentment.
"Indeed, it is. My little fairy is clever and skilled; there is truly nothing you cannot do." Nalan Dijiu praised her without hesitation. As Baili Tianchang offered him the roasted hare, he unceremoniously tore off the fattest leg and held it to her lips.
"Oh, it's too hot," Baili Tianchang said, catching the savory aroma of the roasted meat but afraid to take a bite.
"I will feed you." Nalan Dijiu’s eyes and brows were filled with tenderness and doting affection. He retrieved a pouch of wine from his storage space, used a splash of it to sterilize his small knife, and then began to carefully carve slices of meat from the hare leg. Only when the meat had cooled did he offer it to her lips, coaxing her gently, "The temperature is just right now. Eat more."
"Would you like some wine?" he asked tenderly after she had finished the meat.
"Of course! Enjoy the wine while you have it—if there is wine, we must surely drink."
