Chapter 13: I, Ling Qiong, Will Pay! (13)
Song Qingyun agreed to help them delay for three days, but to resolve the company issue in three days—how could that possibly happen?
Lu Wenji realized that Ling Qiong and Song Qingyun had finished their discussion.
“This has nothing to do with you. You don’t need to help me like this,” he said, knowing that the company was targeting him specifically.
Even if this problem was settled now, what about next time?
As long as he remained with this company, he would never have a chance to rise unless he was willing to climb over others, as ruthlessly as everyone else.
Ling Qiong glanced at him. “I told you I’ve got your back, so I’ve got your back. Don’t be timid—be confident. Dad will help you out… with investments.”
“Investments?” Lu Wenji echoed.
“Isn’t it just bringing capital into the team? If other people’s kids have it, mine should too!”
“That’s impossible…” Lu Wenji shook his head on the spot. “I have a contract with the company. There’s no way they’ll let me bring in my own capital.”
If the company had been willing, things wouldn’t have come to this.
“They won’t, but someone else can. Why cling to one tree until you die? Let’s pick another tree,” Ling Qiong replied.
“Who can?” Lu Wenji wondered. Was it her? Did she still have money?
Ling Qiong told Lu Wenji to focus on preparing for the shoot; she would handle the rest.
...
Lu Wenji’s contract was a headache; it had to be dealt with first.
To terminate the contract, a penalty fee was required.
Penalty fees—Ling Qiong didn’t have that kind of money.
So, finding a scapegoat was back on the agenda.
At that moment, Ling Qiong was dressed in a breezy nightgown, her long legs crossed and resting on a nearby chair, toes lightly swinging.
A laptop rested on her thighs; one hand held a cup of milk tea, the other operated the computer. She was quite at ease.
After comparing several companies for their overall strength and reputation, Ling Qiong finally chose the extravagantly wealthy “Yue Shadow Entertainment.”
Yue Shadow Entertainment was backed by a top domestic group, possessed tremendous financial power.
Ling Qiong bit her straw, shielding her head with a sunhat, gazing up at the imposing building before her.
Even the signboard reading “Yue Shadow Entertainment” radiated the aura of wealth.
Why not rely on card draws?
Because she had no money.
The few million left? Didn’t she need to survive these past days? Her happiness was long gone.
Ling Qiong took a fierce sip of her drink and walked into the building.
“Su Miaomiao!”
“Su Miaomiao, stop right there!”
Ling Qiong found the name familiar, but before she could react, someone blocked her path.
A shadow loomed over her—a presence so oppressive it sent chills through her.
“Mr. Shen.” Ling Qiong recognized him and showed no hint of fear, her brows curved in a smile as she greeted him.
He was, after all, the male lead who had provided her with twenty million… Well, a prop, anyway. Seeing him, she naturally had to smile. Perhaps she could make use of him again, and get another twenty million.
Wouldn’t that allow her happiness to continue?
Hehehe…
“Su Miaomiao.” Shen Qin Chuan’s face was dark. “Where have you been these past few days?”
She’d run straight from the engagement banquet, leaving behind a mess; he hadn’t slept well since.
Meanwhile, she was dressed dazzlingly, full of energy, which made him even more annoyed.
“Where I go is my own business, Mr. Shen. Are you going to control even that?”
“Do you have any idea what you’ve done?” Shen Qin Chuan’s voice was low, a fire smoldering in his eyes.
What were people saying in the circles now?
How many were laughing at him behind his back?
Ling Qiong waved her hand as if to fan herself, pouting, her tone innocent: “You say I ran from marriage, but I haven’t held it against you.”
She was clearly breaking off the engagement; she should have had someone display “Su Miaomiao Breaks Engagement” in big letters on the screen that day.
Instead, these people said she’d run from marriage.
Her expression was that of a girl wronged: “I didn’t blame you, and you turn around and blame me?”
Shen Qin Chuan’s brow twitched, trying to suppress his anger. “Come with me.”
Ling Qiong retreated warily, shielding her chest with her hand. “Why? I’m just a young woman—why should I go with you, a grown man? What if you intend to do something improper? If you’ve got something to say, say it here.”
Shen Qin Chuan’s face darkened further.
“Who would have designs on you? Do you think you—” He suddenly realized she was actually quite beautiful.
The kind of beauty that was striking and flamboyant; when she smiled, it seemed the whole world turned sweet.
Ling Qiong sighed. “Mr. Shen, our engagement isn’t accepted or blessed by your family. There’s no happiness to be found, so please don’t cling to me.”
Shen Qin Chuan: “???”
He was clinging to her?
Was this woman mad?
He ground his teeth. “Su Miaomiao, don’t forget—it was your Su family that begged for this engagement in the first place.”
“The Su family begged, not me.” Ling Qiong smiled sweetly. “Besides, you don’t want to be engaged to me. Now that it’s dissolved, you should be happy. Unless… you’ve fallen for me?!”
Ling Qiong looked surprised and took another step back, her guarded gaze suggesting he might do something to her.
Shen Qin Chuan: “…”
He didn’t want this engagement.
But not in this manner.
He drew in a breath. “Did you take two million from my mother and Bai Yewei?”
Who knew what he felt when he heard about this?
She’d broken off the engagement for two million…
Was the Su family really that desperate for money?
Ling Qiong: “…”
What was that supposed to mean?
Had those two women regretted it and sent the male lead to get the money back?
Ling Qiong’s mind raced. “Your mother gave me money to leave you—money in exchange for me leaving. I’m very trustworthy!”
Shen’s mother didn’t like Su Miaomiao; Shen Qin Chuan knew this.
It was indeed something his mother would do.
However, the engagement banquet had already begun, and he didn’t think his mother would have made such an offer…
Shen Qin Chuan scoffed coldly. “What about Bai Yewei? What does she have to do with any of this? Why did she pay you?”
Ling Qiong’s eyes spun mischievously. “Miss Bai asked me to give her a chance to take my place. I couldn’t let myself lose out, could I?”
Shen Qin Chuan was stunned.
She’d made a business out of it?
What did she take him for?
She’d even collected money twice!
He had a sudden urge to curse.
Ling Qiong’s lips curled into a gentle smile, her voice soft and sweet. “Mr. Shen, now that both parties have gotten what they wanted, please stay away from me in the future. Otherwise, if you fall for me, things will get complicated.”
Shen Qin Chuan: “…”
Both parties satisfied? Who was the commodity?
Who would fall for her?
He was about to explode, but Ling Qiong had already darted swiftly into the building beside them, vanishing in an instant.
Shen Qin Chuan was left with his breath caught between rage and helplessness.
Su Miaomiao…
He hadn’t interacted much with her before, but in previous meetings, she’d never acted like this.
The current Su Miaomiao felt strange and unfamiliar.
With a chill in his bones, Shen Qin Chuan got into the car and instructed his assistant, “Keep an eye on Su Miaomiao. Find out where she’s staying.”
She hadn’t brought her phone, nor her ID, and he had no idea where she’d been hiding these past few days.
