Chapter 57 0059: Modesty Is Ultimately a Luxury (Third Update—Vote Requested)
Yi Tianxing had considered that Chu Yun might step forward, but he never expected that, in his fury, Chu Yun would send Cao Zheng flying with a single, powerful kick!
He was stunned.
Not to mention those from the Jin family and Cao Zheng’s lackeys, who never believed the Ye family would dare such a thing even if given ten lives.
They stood there, utterly shocked.
The members of the Ye family exchanged glances, feeling both vindicated and fearful.
“How dare you!” As Yi Tianxing regained his senses and glanced at Cao Zheng, who was coughing up blood after being slammed against the steel gate, he turned to Chu Yun, erupting in rage: “How dare you lay hands on Young Master Cao! You have some nerve!”
Before he could finish, there was a loud bang as Chu Yun’s foot sent Yi Tianxing slamming into the other steel gate.
“One more makes no difference,” Chu Yun sneered as he withdrew his foot.
In truth, Chu Yun hadn’t wanted to get involved. Even Ye Wuwei’s suffering was, perhaps, a necessary hardship, a trial of growth—a part of life he had no need to interfere with. But Cao Zheng and Yi Tianxing had gone too far.
Whether it was humiliation or reprimand, once a man had knelt before you, what could not be forgiven? Especially as it was a trap they had set in the first place.
Their relentless persecution was more than Chu Yun could stomach. If these men insisted on posturing before him, then they were simply asking to ignite the wrath simmering inside him. If he didn’t deal with them now, he could hardly call it vengeance at all!
With a clatter, four or five of Cao Zheng’s lackeys lunged at Chu Yun.
Chu Yun dispatched each with a single kick—bang, bang, bang, bang—sending them all flying out of the Ye family’s courtyard.
When he finished, Chu Yun looked at Master Jin and his entourage, all petrified with shock. He raised his brows and asked, “Will you leave on your own, or shall I escort you out?”
Master Jin, furious, managed to say, “Boy, what do you mean by—”
Before he could finish, Jin Yun saw a blur of motion; her father was gone, and a moment later, she saw him hanging from the treetop outside the courtyard wall.
“Father!” Jin Yun cried in alarm, hurrying out with the servants to check on Master Jin.
“Close the gate,” Chu Yun instructed the injured Ye Wuwei.
Ye Wuwei was at a loss, his heart pounding with terror. He hadn’t expected his brother-in-law’s intervention to escalate matters this way. His mind was in turmoil, but even in pain, he could only grit his teeth and close the gate as ordered.
The Ye family was unnerved by Chu Yun’s blunt methods. It wasn’t Chu Yun they feared, but rather the consequences his actions would bring upon the Ye family.
“Hey!” Ye Zhenhuan’s younger brother protested anxiously, “You’re pushing the Ye family to the brink of destruction!”
“Only the weak beg the strong for reason,” Chu Yun replied coldly. “Did you see them being reasonable with you just now?”
Then he barked at Ye Wuwei, “Still think of me as your brother-in-law? If you want to live, close the gate!”
Chastened, Ye Wuwei hurried to shut the gate despite his pain.
Once the courtyard was quiet, Chu Yun said, “I’ll settle this matter. For the next few days, none of you need leave the house. If anything happens, I’ll bear the consequences.”
With that, he returned to his own room.
This incident made Chu Yun realize something: in this fiercely competitive world, it was impossible for him to remain untouched. The moment he was labeled as a slum-born outcast, the lines of class had already been drawn.
Be it the Cao family, the Yi family, or even the so-called genius of the Duanmu family—he would advise them all to reconsider.
He had never wished to sully himself with the petty affairs of this wretched world. He merely wanted to cultivate quietly, and once his strength was sufficient, to reclaim all he had lost on the more advanced planets, one step at a time. He had always seen himself as a mere passerby here, wanting no ripples, no entanglements. But things never go as one wishes!
If forced to the limit, he would not hesitate to show the world what it meant to overturn clouds and summon storms with a mere gesture!
Everyone deserved a second chance. Just as he had been reborn, Chu Yun believed others should be granted another opportunity. That was why he hadn’t killed Cao Zheng and Yi Tianxing with his kicks. But if they refused to see reason and kept coming, he would show no mercy!
Returning to his room, Chu Yun locked himself in to cultivate.
Judging by his progress, the second level of the first realm of the Proud World Technique was nearly complete. He deemed it necessary to break through to the third level, to fully elevate his strength in preparation for the coming enemies.
Meanwhile, in the Ye family’s main hall, arguments erupted over Chu Yun’s actions.
Ye Zhenhuan’s younger brothers and their families believed the Ye family now faced annihilation, and their heated debate soon turned to the idea of surrendering Chu Yun.
“A man like Chu Yun is not someone our Ye family can afford. His temperament and methods are bound to offend people. Our house is small—we can’t withstand the storms stirred by the mighty.”
“Yi Tianxing was probably after Chu Yun alone. If we distance ourselves from him, perhaps we can survive?”
“Our family was doing fine until Chu Yun married in. Since then, look at all that’s happened. Think about it.”
“Linglong has no real feelings for him. There’s no guilt in handing him over. I say we kick him out.”
“I once thought his joining would bring fortune. Now it’s clear: more harm than good. I fear we won’t live to taste any benefit.”
As the bickering continued, Ye Zhenhuan and his wife remained silent, as did Ye Linglong and her two brothers. The rest of the family blamed this branch for all their troubles.
“If we want unity, we can’t let Chu Yun stay in our family,” said Ye Zhenhuan’s youngest brother. “Or else we split—your family’s way of handling things is too much for the rest of us.”
“Don’t you think you’re being selfish?” Ye Linglong challenged her relatives. “He could’ve stayed out of this. If not for him, I’d be Yi Tianxing’s fiancée by now. And when Wuwei was forced to kneel, where were you? Think about it—someone like Chu Yun, with his background and talent, could have been courted by these people, but for us he’s now their enemy. Do you really think his situation is any better than ours? Our fates are tied together—the arrow’s nocked, there’s no turning back!”
“I agree with my sister!” said the injured, red-eyed Ye Wuwei, rising shakily. “I’ll stand with brother-in-law! I’ve already died once—I fear nothing now.”
His words made Ye Linglong blink in surprise, as if she could hardly recognize her own brother.
At this, Ye Zhenhuan sighed. “You all have your worries. It hasn’t been easy for the Ye family to survive. For the sake of our family’s future, I’ve decided to call a vote: any branch that wishes to split off and become independent is free to do so.”
Several women immediately said, “You must give us a larger share of the property.”
Ye Zhenhuan forced a bitter smile. “Fine. The shares of the family business will be divided. If our branch is lost, you must ensure the Ye bloodline continues.”
No sooner had he spoken than the previously hesitant aunts and cousins all raised their hands.
Seeing this, Ye Linglong’s gaze grew ever colder.
