Chapter 51 0053: Then, can you last for three days?
Cafeteria.
Ten students from Longjiang, along with their teacher and several members of the data team, were eating together.
Young Guo, who was not yet eighteen, wolfed down his food as he spoke to Zhao Kuo, “Squad Leader Zhao, seniors, can I make a request?”
The squad leader replied, “You want Chu Yun left for you, right?”
Guo grinned broadly. “I won’t fight you for anyone else, but leave him to me. Starting tonight, as long as you spot Chu Yun on the map, just report his location to me—I’ll take care of him.”
The other seniors responded generously, “No problem. From now on, you’re in charge of that guy. This is your first time, don’t put too much pressure on yourself—just relax.”
Teacher Zhang said seriously, “But I have one requirement. Every day, I want full elimination—no one is allowed to slip through.”
Zhao Kuo nodded. “Of course. If even one gets away in a twenty-four-hour period, that’s our failure.”
The data analyst added, “The map isn’t very big, forty thousand square meters, but there are a lot of trees. At night, their chances of hiding are higher. My advice is to aim for a sweep during the day—don’t drag it into the night if you can help it!”
Guo asked, “So are we sleeping tonight or heading out? I bet they’ll be on edge and won’t sleep at all, and by tomorrow afternoon they’ll be too exhausted to hold on.”
“We don’t need to stoop to such low tactics,” Zhao Kuo said. “I want to crush them with real strength. Tonight, let’s give them a taste of what’s coming—especially their captain. He acted like I didn’t exist today. No need to wait for sunrise—I want their game to end ahead of schedule tonight!”
“Wait a second—there’s a girl on their team, Hou Manman. Who’s in charge of her?” someone asked.
Zhao Kuo volunteered, “She’s definitely my type. None of you can have her.”
Everyone else looked at Zhao Kuo with knowing grins.
———
Night fell quietly.
Before midnight struck, Zhao Kuo and the others gathered around a bonfire, grilling skewers as they watched the time creep toward twelve.
When he saw a member stand up, the squad leader waved him off. “Eat your late-night snack first. What’s the rush? At least let them hide before you go after them—otherwise it’s no fun. Just grabbing someone right away and giving them a beating isn’t satisfying. It’s better to catch them yourself and make sure they can’t escape your grasp—that sense of control, that’s what’s interesting.”
“But, squad leader, that guy doesn’t seem interested in hiding,” someone said, puzzled, spotting a figure standing in the moonlight—already inside their territory.
Zhao Kuo was taken aback and turned to look. There stood Chu Yun in the moonlight.
He checked the time—it wasn’t midnight yet. Was this guy really walking into their trap?
“Hey, you—are you lost? What are you doing in our territory?” Zhao Kuo shouted. “You’re not here to surrender, are you?”
The others burst out laughing.
Zhao Kuo pointed at his watch. “Fifteen minutes till midnight. Go hide already! Once it’s dark, we won’t go easy on you.”
Chu Yun, not twenty meters from their camp, simply sat down on a large rock and watched them quietly.
The Longjiang group grew annoyed. “This bastard is doing it on purpose. Just like when he deliberately didn’t get up for the squad leader’s handshake earlier—he’s deliberately looking down on us. When midnight comes, I’ll beat him until he calls me grandpa.”
Zhao Kuo checked the time—eleven minutes left. Worried that Chu Yun hadn’t heard, he shouted again, “Eleven minutes left.”
Guo took a bite of meat and said, “He’s doing it on purpose. He’s probably the weakest of Lan Feng, knows he’s just cannon fodder, so he’s come to keep an eye on us and buy time for his seniors to hide.”
The rest of Longjiang agreed—there could be no other explanation.
At that moment, Chu Yun stood up and walked toward them.
He was really coming over!
The Longjiang team was completely baffled by this behavior.
Guo readied himself to act, but Zhao Kuo stopped him. “It’s not time yet.”
Everyone sat, eyes half-raised, watching Chu Yun approach.
“If you’re going to surrender like this, there’s really no point,” Zhao Kuo said disdainfully. “You’re the captain, at least put up a fight, or I’ll look down on you.”
Chu Yun sat down, grabbed a random skewer, took a bite, and, chewing, said, “I don’t have time to waste with you. I’m afraid if I wait until the time’s up and you all scatter, I’ll have to hunt you down one by one—too much trouble. So I’ll just wait here until it’s time.”
Zhao Kuo didn’t quite get his meaning. “Wait for what? Are you trying to get yourself killed?”
The others chuckled.
“Kid, you upset our squad leader today, you know that? You don’t need to surrender like this—there’s no avoiding a fight. As for how badly you get beaten, that depends on whether you apologize to our squad leader right now,” one member said.
Chu Yun checked the time. “Five minutes left. If you have anything to say, go ahead.”
“Are you really the captain?” Guo asked.
Chu Yun nodded sincerely.
Guo frowned. “Don’t you pick captains based on strength?”
Zhao Kuo scoffed, “You call that strength? Zhang Yang is only one level above the others, and Hou Manman is at his level, too. No matter who you make the captain, someone will be dissatisfied—so they gave it to the weakest.”
Guo asked, “So are they all hiding?”
Chu Yun nodded.
His honest and straightforward answers left the group at a loss.
This really ruined the gaming experience. Couldn’t he take it seriously?
“Your Lan Feng is doomed to mediocrity with students like you,” Zhao Kuo said. “I didn’t expect you’d sink so low.”
Chu Yun continued eating, letting him talk.
One member, seeing Chu Yun’s calm demeanor, tried to intimidate him. “Three minutes left, brother. After that, we’ll be enemies for seven days! You can still run now.”
“I have a question,” Chu Yun interrupted.
Zhao Kuo and the others nodded, signaling him to ask.
“When you trained with Lan Feng before, how many days did they last?” Chu Yun asked.
“Four days last time,” Zhao Kuo replied. “But if you can last three this time, we’ll call it our loss!”
“I’m not sure how long those losers can hold out,” Chu Yun looked at them and asked, “but can you last three days?”
“What?” The Longjiang group laughed. “Are you asking the right people?”
“One minute left, kid. You should run—put up some resistance, or no one will want to train with you again,” someone advised.
Chu Yun nodded. “I agree. If I stick around, I doubt any academy team will ever want to arrange training with us again.”
