Chapter 95: Challenges in Building the Army
Chapter 95: Trouble for Jianjun
Seeing the beautiful teacher’s smile, Ye Feng smiled happily as well. However, Ning Jing’s smile was irresistibly charming. Undeniably, among all the beauties he knew, Ning Jing was undoubtedly one of the most outstanding. Her stunning allure and gentle grace could only be rivaled by Wang Meiling’s pure and delightful innocence.
Ning Jing noticed, through a sidelong glance, that the man was scanning her ample chest. Feeling both shy and annoyed, she thought about how they were walking toward the office building and worried that if someone accidentally saw them, what would she do? That rascal! But then, thinking about how much attraction she held for this handsome man, a sense of pride welled up inside her.
Ye Feng saw Ning Jing say nothing in response, and naturally, he couldn’t help but admire her even more. Gazing at her round curves barely contained by her clothes, he felt as if he might bleed from the nose—it was simply too enchanting, too captivating. If only he could reach out and gently touch her now, how wonderful that would be.
“We’re here. Mr. Ye Feng, you go up here. On the fourth floor, turn left; the first door is the vice principal’s office,” Ning Jing’s bell-like voice rang out, causing Ye Feng to pause briefly. Then he smiled lightly and said, “Thank you, Teacher Ning. I’ll head up first. See you when I get the chance!” Even if there was no chance, he would find a way—how could he let such a stunning beauty slip away?
“See you when I get the chance,” Ning Jing murmured softly, watching Ye Feng climb the stairs before slowly turning to leave. How had she ended up talking so much with a man like that? It had been so long since she’d spoken to a man like this. Suddenly, a female teacher appeared before her.
“Hi!”
“Ah!” Ning Jing was startled, then scolded, “You scared me! Don’t you know scaring someone can be deadly?” She shot a teasing glare at the woman before quickly composing herself, hiding any sign of her earlier fluster.
“Hehe, what’s our beauty thinking about so intently? You didn’t even notice me appearing!” The newcomer was Liu Jun, a young teacher sharing the same room with Ning Jing. Although they lived together, their qualities were worlds apart. Ning Jing was exceptional, while Liu Jun was quite ordinary in appearance. Still, they got along well.
“N-no, it’s nothing. Let’s head back,” Ning Jing replied, blushing and lowering her head. There was no way she could reveal how well she’d gotten along chatting with Ye Feng. But just thinking of that handsome man made her heart race.
Meanwhile, Ye Feng had not noticed this scene. Taking quick strides, he soon arrived on the fourth floor of the office building. Turning left, he found several vice principals’ offices and knocked on the first door. A voice called out, “Ye Jianjun, come in.”
“Uncle, you’re still busy?” Ye Feng stepped inside to find Ye Jianjun bent over his desk, earnestly working on some paperwork. Hearing his nephew’s voice, Ye Jianjun looked up.
“I have no choice. I urgently need to finish this material. Sit down and wait for me; I’ll be done soon.”
“All right, Uncle, take your time. I’ll wait,” Ye Feng smiled slightly and sat down on the sofa. Only now did he take a careful look around his uncle’s office. The room was well-appointed, and a large bonsai by the balcony freshened the air.
Ten minutes later, Ye Jianjun emerged from the office with Ye Feng, saying he wanted to take him somewhere for a drink. Ye Feng had no objections.
“Not bad. We’ll talk more when we have dinner. Little Feng, don’t be fooled by my shiny vice principal title—it’s not as easy as it looks,” Ye Jianjun said.
Ye Feng said nothing but smiled gently. He truly didn’t know how to respond. The school seemed simple on the surface, but it was a small political arena filled with complexities and human dramas. He neither understood nor wished to see through it all.
Soon, under Ye Jianjun’s guidance, Ye Feng arrived at the county’s No. 1 High School cafeteria for the first time. Ye Jianjun explained that the cafeteria had three floors: the first floor was moderately priced, suitable for students with limited budgets; the second floor was for average to above-average spenders, with prices a bit higher; the third floor offered small stir-fried dishes and private dining rooms.
“Hehe, not bad, not bad!” Ye Feng chuckled as they went to the third floor. It was essentially a large hall with many dining tables, where several students were already eating. Around the edges were small private rooms—not large, but enough for a few people to dine comfortably. These rooms allowed one to invite a girlfriend or others for a meal, and what happened after was entirely up to you. Thinking of this, a fire ignited in Ye Feng’s heart, recalling the wonderful memories at the Chenlong Club.
Ye Jianjun casually ordered a few stir-fried dishes and two bottles of Erguotou liquor, then poured tea, his face full of helplessness. Ye Feng, noticing his uncle’s expression, couldn’t help but ask, “Uncle, what’s going on? Tell me so I can help think of a solution.”
“Ah, soon there will be a personnel reshuffle, and I might have to step down from my position as Director of Teaching,” Ye Jianjun said with resignation.
Ye Feng was puzzled. “Uncle, aren’t you already the vice principal? The director position is an additional role. If you step down, wouldn’t your workload lighten?”
Ye Jianjun gave a dry laugh. “My vice principal duties include overseeing teaching. I also serve as the Director of Teaching, which makes management convenient. But if I relinquish that director role and someone else takes over, they won’t listen to me at all. I’ll essentially be sidelined. Though the vice principal title looks prestigious, the real power isn’t in my hands.”
“Oh! So that’s how it is. Why not promote someone loyal to you? That way, you’d keep control of the director’s authority while rewarding your own people.”
Ye Jianjun sighed. “I’d like that, but the current principal, Yang Xiuke, doesn’t like me, so he won’t allow it. Besides, I’ve heard that the person likely to become the next Director of Teaching has already made connections with leaders at the Education Bureau.”
