Chapter 062: The Guardian of the Flower
Chapter 062: The Guardian of Flowers
Ye Feng turned around and saw a man snatch a small handbag from a woman and then dash away. Without a second thought, Ye Feng immediately gave chase. It seemed the thief was a seasoned criminal, deliberately choosing crowded places to escape, hoping to blend into the throng and disappear quickly.
Normally, the thief would have succeeded, but tonight, encountering Ye Feng spelled disaster for him. Despite the thief’s desperate sprint, Ye Feng was much faster—so fast, in fact, that within minutes, just as the thief tried to disappear into the crowd, Ye Feng caught him forcefully.
“What do you want, damn it? Let go of me, I don’t like men,” the thief blustered, acting tough as if he were merely out for a jog. Ye Feng, however, snatched the handbag from his grasp. “Well, what’s this?” he said, tightening his hold. Within moments, sweat broke out in beads across the thief’s forehead.
“Big brother, I was wrong! I won’t dare do it again,” the thief pleaded, cursing Ye Feng’s ancestors in his heart. What rotten luck—he’d finally found an easy target and hoped for a good haul tonight, but ended up in the hands of this meddlesome man.
“Wrong? The world offers everything except a cure for regret. You’re coming with me to return the bag to its owner, and what happens next is up to her,” Ye Feng said with a smile, wasting no more words. The thief, barely twenty, looked shifty and sly.
Ye Feng dragged the thief back to where the woman had been robbed. Just as he was about to hand the thief over, he froze—it was Wang Meiling, the woman he’d met that morning.
Wang Meiling was dressed as she had been earlier, though now worry clouded her face. She’d planned to shop with a friend, but her companion had urgent business, so Wang Meiling decided to stroll alone before heading home. Unbeknownst to her, a thief had been watching, and when she was distracted, he snatched her handbag. The shock left her stunned—she cried out involuntarily, watched the thief flee, and saw another man pursue him.
She’d wanted to give chase, but her outfit made it impossible. She could only wait, hoping for the best. In the end, the thief was caught—and the hero who apprehended him was the same man she’d met that morning.
“Hey, aren’t you…!” they said in unison, surprised to find each other here. Once again, Ye Feng had helped Wang Meiling, and her heart stirred with unfamiliar feelings for him.
“How is it you?” they both asked, astonished. The thief, still dangling from Ye Feng’s grip, wanted nothing more than to bash his head against the wall. What were the odds! The two of them knew each other—was he being set up? Heaven, open your eyes!
“Indeed, it’s unexpected to meet you here,” Ye Feng said, doing his best to show his most charming side. A man must never lose face before a woman, and even more so before a beauty.
“Yes, thank you so much for tonight. Could you let him go now? The bag is back, that's enough,” Wang Meiling said, unable to bear seeing the terrified thief still held aloft by Ye Feng.
The thief was ready to die from embarrassment. He’d thought tonight would be his big opportunity, but instead ran into Ye Feng, and then discovered this meddler was acquainted with the beautiful girl. What a mess! But when he heard the beauty ask for mercy, he felt a secret joy.
“Alright,” Ye Feng said, releasing the thief but casting him a fierce glare. “Get lost. Try to live straight from now on. If it weren’t for her, you’d be finished.” The thief bowed and nodded, cursing Ye Feng inwardly—if not for this guy, he’d be off enjoying himself somewhere.
Ye Feng instantly switched to a warm smile for Wang Meiling. “You weren’t too frightened, were you?” Naturally, Ye Feng hoped she’d say, “I was so scared!” and then throw herself into his arms—what a delightful prospect, embracing her soft form.
“No, I’m fine.” In truth, Wang Meiling had been scared, but she didn’t want to appear vulnerable before Ye Feng. Still, she gently patted her chest to calm herself. “It’s lucky you were here; otherwise, I wouldn’t have known what to do.”
Heaven—could it be? Ye Feng swallowed hard. The way Wang Meiling patted her chest was too alluring, and her curves only made it more enticing. Would this gesture stir a storm within him? “Good, as long as you’re alright. Are you heading home now?”
“Yes, but the road isn’t very safe,” Wang Meiling replied, glancing at Ye Feng, her eyes drawn to his masculine aura—a feeling none of the bookish boys in her class could evoke.
Ye Feng immediately caught her meaning. If he didn’t get it now, he’d never win a beauty’s heart. Smiling, he nodded, “No problem, I’ll escort you home. Let me play the guardian for once—so my life isn’t wasted.”
Wang Meiling couldn’t help but laugh at Ye Feng’s exaggerated words. Was it really so dramatic? Her laughter made Ye Feng marvel—her smile could topple cities, and he now believed wholeheartedly in the legend of a beauty whose smile could bring nations to ruin.
“Hey, what are you staring at?” Wang Meiling teased, noticing Ye Feng’s gaze fixed on her face. Her heart fluttered at the thought of her effect on him.
“I—I wasn’t looking at anything.” Only a fool would admit otherwise. “So, which way should we go?” Ye Feng was hopeless with directions in the provincial capital, so he'd rather follow the beauty’s lead—even trailing behind her was a pleasure.
Wang Meiling paused to consider. Should she go shopping with him? She wanted to, but modesty made her hesitate. Suddenly, she steeled herself and seemed to make a decision. “Let’s go this way. I’ll take you shopping, and you can help me pick out clothes. Is that alright?”
“What—buy clothes?” Ye Feng was stunned. Was he hearing right? Shopping with a beauty was a dream come true—and if they shopped for lingerie, he’d strike gold. The thought made Ye Feng secretly rejoice.
