Chapter 055: I’m So Afraid

As the discordant sounds echoed through the air, everyone turned to look behind them. There, a group of burly men surrounded a middle-aged man, raining down blows and kicks. Blood was already trickling down the man’s forehead, but the thugs showed no intention of stopping.

The man on the ground groaned weakly, while one of the burly men cursed loudly, “You bastard, don’t you know the rules? How dare you go against me? Are you tired of living?” With that, he aimed another savage kick at the man’s body.

“Boss, what’s going on? Why isn’t anyone doing anything? And why hasn’t anyone called the police?” Ye Feng asked the proprietor in bewilderment. Ma Long and the others also looked to the boss, whose face had turned ashen with worry.

“We... We wouldn’t dare. You guys should leave, quickly, or when those people come over, you might get hurt. Brother Long, take your men and leave through the back,” the boss stammered, his fear evident as he remembered how one of his previous customers had been similarly beaten by those thugs.

“Heh, boss, don’t worry. With my big brother here, you have nothing to fear,” Zhang Wei said with a grin. After all, with his big brother around, what were a few small-time hoodlums?

The group of men grew even more frenzied, kicking the fallen man with abandon. Ye Feng could no longer bear the scene. At that moment, the leader of the thugs barked, “Bring me something! I’ll show this fool who we are!”

“Yes, boss!” A lackey pulled a steel pipe from behind his back and handed it over. The man’s face twisted into a smug smile as he hefted the weapon. “You blind dog, today I’ll teach you a lesson you’ll never forget.”

“B-boss, I was wrong, I won’t do it again,” the man on the ground pleaded, his eyes bloodshot and filled with terror. He had only accidentally offended these people, but their brutality was far beyond what he’d expected.

“There won’t be a next time. First, let me show you what I’m made of!” The leader raised the steel pipe high, ready to bring it down with a vicious swing. Ye Feng could no longer hesitate—if that blow landed, the man would be crippled, if not killed.

Ye Feng sprang from his seat, lunged forward, and caught the descending pipe in his grip before it could land. The man on the ground had already shut his eyes in despair, for although many people watched, no one dared intervene.

With a swift motion, Ye Feng snatched the pipe from the leader’s hands as easily as scooping the moon from the sea, then delivered a flying kick to the thug, sending him and his precious pipe tumbling across the floor.

“Boss, are you alright?” The group rushed to help their leader up, concern etched on their faces.

“Damn it, who the hell are you? Get him, brothers!” Their focus shifted from the fallen victim to Ye Feng, and at the leader’s shout, they charged with fists swinging.

Ye Feng knelt beside the battered man and quickly checked his pulse. Fortunately, he was still alive. “Hey, brother, are you okay?”

“I-I’m fine,” the man gritted out, though nothing could be further from the truth. His body felt utterly shattered, as though something had crushed him mercilessly, his face streaked with blood.

With the thugs now attacking, Ye Feng showed no mercy. He fought at full strength against more than ten men, his fists flying and every punch sending someone crashing to the ground. Ma Long and his crew were stunned—what a boss, truly a force to be reckoned with!

The boss was even more astounded, turning to Ma Long, “Brother Long, your leader is incredible! I’ve never seen anything like this. Before, anyone who tried to defy those thugs would end up half-dead and never dare resist again. Now, Ye Feng is knocking them down one by one.”

“Heh, my big brother has many talents. This is nothing to him—he doesn’t even need our help,” Ma Long boasted, pride shining in his eyes.

With Ye Feng’s sudden intervention, the thugs were swiftly subdued. Onlookers gathered to witness the hero in action, and when they saw that Ye Feng was a handsome, dashing young man, they were even more amazed. Surely, he must know martial arts to be so formidable.

The crowd began to cheer Ye Feng on. Those heartless thugs deserved this punishment. But Ye Feng had no mind for the accolades; in just a few minutes, he had laid them all out. He went to help the battered man to a seat and instructed others to fetch some medicine.

Seeing all his men defeated, the leader was terrified. He had never encountered such a monster—especially since he’d brought no weaklings with him today. “D-don’t come any closer,” he stammered.

Ye Feng noticed the leader was still untouched, so he smiled and walked slowly toward him. This frightened the man even more. “Don’t come any closer, or you’ll regret it! If you make an enemy of the Invincible Gang, you’ll learn the true meaning of death!”

“Heh, the Invincible Gang? What’s that supposed to be? I’m beating you up, so what? Bullies like you need to be taught a lesson. Come on, show me how tough you are now!” Ye Feng spat, though he had no idea what the Invincible Gang was.

The crowd, however, grew worried for Ye Feng. Everyone in the provincial capital knew the Invincible Gang—the largest syndicate in the city, with thousands of members and countless experts among their ranks.

“Kid, you must have a death wish. If you lay a finger on me, you’ll suffer a fate worse than death,” the leader threatened, trembling as he sensed the murderous aura radiating from Ye Feng.

“Oh? I’m so scared. Is that so? Then let’s see,” Ye Feng replied mockingly, before stomping down on the man’s foot. A sharp crack rang out as the bone snapped, and the man screamed like a slaughtered pig, “My foot! My foot!”

“Bastard! Don’t run, if you have the guts—by this time next year, it’ll be your funeral!” the man cursed through the searing pain.

Ye Feng only smiled, seeing that the thug was about to call for backup.

The man quickly fished out his phone. “Boss, I’m at the night market—get over here quick! Someone’s beaten us up!” After the call, a smug grin appeared on his face. Soon, he thought, his boss would teach this meddlesome brat a lesson he’d never forget.
