Chapter 037: Nearly Caught in the Crosshairs
Chapter 037: A Narrow Escape from the Sniper
Night had already fallen, the sky devoid of even a single star, casting an oppressive gloom over everything. Huang Wei had asked several people, but something felt wrong. Worse still, she couldn’t reach her trusted subordinates, which left her anxious. “Ye Feng, what do you think is happening right now? Why have they disappeared without a trace?”
“Don’t worry, Wei. I suspect your subordinates have likely already been taken out by that hidden hand. What a pity. But the more brazen that black hand becomes, the easier it will be for them to slip up. When the time comes, we’ll catch them all in one net.” A fleeting smile played at the corners of Ye Feng’s lips, as though everything was unfolding just as he had predicted. However, the enemy seemed to be moving faster than he had anticipated.
“Well, I’ll just do whatever you say. My whole life, everything I have, I’m putting in your hands.” As she spoke, a blush crept up Huang Wei’s cheeks. Had she just confessed to entrusting herself to this scoundrel? Would he take advantage of her now?
Ye Feng didn’t notice at first, but when he saw the flush on her face, he realized her words carried a hint of intimacy. In truth, Huang Wei was beautiful—why hadn’t he noticed before? The mature allure she exuded was captivating, intoxicating. He caught himself, chiding his own thoughts. Taking advantage of someone in a vulnerable moment was not his way.
“Hey, Ye Feng, what are you staring at?” When Ye Feng didn’t reply for a long moment, Huang Wei looked up, only to find his gaze fixed on the fullness of her chest. Anger and embarrassment flared within her. This rascal, this lecher!
“I—I wasn’t looking at anything!” Of course, he couldn’t admit he’d been staring at her curves. Yet, he couldn’t help but think to himself how alluring they were. The memory of nearly pouncing on her at Huang Shan’s house flashed through his mind, stirring his excitement.
“Hmph! Not looking, huh? I saw you! You won’t even admit you were sneaking a look at my—” Huang Wei realized mid-sentence that it was inappropriate to continue, so she simply shot Ye Feng a fierce glare and turned away, refusing to speak to him. Hmph, this jerk, staring and still won’t admit it.
Seeing her anger, Ye Feng felt a twinge of guilt. He stepped forward and patted her gently on the shoulder. “Wei, don’t be angry, alright? I admit it, I—I looked, but only because you’re so beautiful. I couldn’t help myself.”
“Really?” Huang Wei’s mood instantly brightened, her face breaking into an enchanting smile. Ah, a woman’s emotions really are as changeable as the June sky—stormy one moment, sunshine the next. Ye Feng sighed inwardly at his own misfortune.
Suddenly, Ye Feng’s instincts, honed as a soldier, stirred with a sense of impending danger. Could it be a sniper? The thought had barely formed before he sprang into action, throwing himself at Huang Wei and knocking her to the ground just as a sharp crack rang out behind them—the spot where she’d just been standing. It really was a sniper.
“Ye Feng, you wretched pervert! I can’t believe you’d treat me like this!” Huang Wei, stunned by his roughness, felt a wave of grievance. Worse yet, his arm was draped across her chest, sending tingles through her body. Her face flushed crimson.
Though she had a bit of a soft spot for this rascal, she couldn’t accept such rough treatment. Ye Feng’s body was pressed against her, enveloping her in a heady masculine scent that made her eyes grow dreamy. Good heavens, they were outside! How could she be thinking such thoughts? This scoundrel, this rogue—she wanted to punish him, but could she really bring herself to do it?
“Don’t say a word. Someone’s trying to kill us!” Ye Feng scooped her up and darted behind a rockery, scanning their surroundings. Snipers usually fired a single shot before retreating if they missed, but just in case, Ye Feng remained on guard.
Huang Wei’s heart pounded at his words. She’d heard the shot herself. Had this scoundrel just saved her life? The thought made her view him in a new light. He’d risked his life for hers, which meant she mattered to him. The realization filled her with warmth, and she couldn’t help but nestle closer in his embrace.
After a while, Ye Feng, satisfied that the danger had passed, emerged from behind the rockery. Suddenly, a delightful fragrance wafted into his nose, and he realized his hand was gripping something soft and yielding. Looking down, he saw that, in his haste, he’d pulled Huang Wei into his arms, one hand supporting her and the other firmly cupping her chest. Her cheeks, already flushed, grew even redder, and a dangerous heat surged within him.
The woman before him was simply too enticing—those rosy lips, that elegant nose, those expressive eyes, every feature captivated him. Especially now, with her blushing cheeks, he felt a reaction stirring below.
“Could you… let me go now?” Huang Wei asked shyly, wishing she could sink into the earth. Not only was she cradled in his arms, he was staring at her chest, and—most shamefully—she felt something firm pressing against her from below. Realizing what it was, her face burned even hotter.
Ye Feng finally realized his impropriety and quickly released her. But as he did, Huang Wei brushed against his aroused body, fanning the flames within him even higher. His trousers felt painfully tight, as though they might burst.
“Uh, Huang Wei, it was just a reflex—I had no other choice. I’m sorry.” Ye Feng tried to ease the awkwardness, glancing down to adjust his prominent arousal. Ah, brother, I’m sorry to put you through this. Someday, I’ll treat you to something nice.
“Are you alright?” Huang Wei asked, unable to meet his eyes. She couldn’t help glancing downward, mortified by the sight. How could he be so… aroused? If she really gave herself to him, how would he treat her? She couldn’t bring herself to imagine it.
“I’m fine. Why wouldn’t I be?” Ye Feng replied, feigning nonchalance, though the pressure below was almost unbearable. But in front of such a stunning beauty, he couldn’t lose face, especially not with Huang Wei.
“Are you sure… you’re really alright down there?” Huang Wei pointed hesitantly at the bulge in Ye Feng’s trousers. Only then did he realize the seriousness of the problem. This was no ordinary issue—it was dire. He couldn’t take it any longer.
