Walking toward them was none other than the renowned ice queen of Silkbud Group, Lin Sha, Assistant to President Ling. Lin Sha, the company’s leading beauty, was coveted by countless men, but none dared make a move. Not only was she stunning, she was also a formidable career woman, her capabilities unquestioned. Save for the president, even the vice presidents bowed and scraped in her presence. Such a woman naturally made the men in the company keep their distance, forced to content themselves with secret fantasies.

So when Yang Jiekai made his remark, it left Qin Feng and Gongsun Zhang—who themselves occasionally fantasized about Lin Sha—gaping in astonishment.

Their reaction pleased Yang Jiekai immensely; he relished provoking such speechless surprise.

Seeing their disbelief, Yang Jiekai cocked his chin and declared, “Don’t doubt me. I guarantee Assistant Lin will come and speak to me of her own accord in a moment.”

“Keep dreaming!” Qin Feng couldn’t hold back any longer. The idea that this guy could woo Assistant Lin was already incredible enough, but now he claimed she’d initiate conversation? That was pure fantasy—who did he think he was!

Yang Jiekai paid no mind to Qin Feng’s skepticism, remaining where he stood with a cigarette dangling from his lips, watching Lin Sha approach with a nonchalant air.

Sure enough, after Lin Sha passed by the trio, she halted, turned, and addressed Yang Jiekai coldly, “Yang Jiekai, is this how you conduct yourself as department head?”

Yang Jiekai answered, cigarette still in mouth, “Is there a problem?”

Lin Sha shot him an annoyed glare. “It’s work hours, and you’re loitering here with your subordinates…”

“We’re not slacking!” Yang Jiekai retorted. “Our job in the Security Department is patrol. There’s no rule saying we must wander aimlessly. I’m conducting a fixed-point surveillance here with my two subordinates!”

“You…” Lin Sha was so incensed by his shameless reply she could barely speak, her almond eyes wide. “Fine, let’s say you’re conducting surveillance. But did you not see the company’s leaderboard at the entrance? Your Sales Department’s score is still a big fat zero. When the monthly competition ends, let’s see what you do. The company has increased penalties for the bottom departments this time!”

“It’s not the end of the month yet,” Yang Jiekai said, removing the cigarette and looking at Lin Sha. “The current score isn’t final. Who says our Security Department will finish last? Maybe we’ll even take the Sales Championship.”

Lin Sha snorted, unimpressed. “With you? Winning the championship? If your Security Department isn’t dead last, I’ll see you in a new light!”

Yang Jiekai exhaled a lazy cloud of smoke, squinting. “If we win the championship in this competition, what will you say then?”

“If that happens, you decide!” Lin Sha replied, never believing the Security Department could win. With Yang Jiekai’s attitude, even if the Security staff worked themselves to the bone, they couldn’t outdo Sales. That’s why Security never participated in previous contests. She’d sooner believe the sun rose in the west than that Security would win.

“Your word?” Yang Jiekai asked, a mischievous grin on his face.

“My word!” Lin Sha lifted her chin, resolute.

Yang Jiekai stroked his chin, his smile deepening. “Well then, if Security wins the Sales contest, you’ll let me woo you!”

“You…” Lin Sha’s pretty face flushed crimson, shocked at his proposal, but she gritted her teeth. “Fine. If Security wins, I’ll let you…”

She couldn’t quite finish the sentence.

“What will you let me do? Spell it out so you don’t renege later,” Yang Jiekai pressed, his expression openly provoking her.

Looking at his infuriating face, Lin Sha snapped, “If your Security Department wins the championship, I, Lin Sha, will let you woo me!”

“A gentleman’s word!”

“A swift horse’s spur!”

With her confirmation, Yang Jiekai stepped forward, cleared his throat, and suddenly shouted, “Everyone listen up! Assistant Lin says if Security wins the Sales contest, she’ll let me pursue her!”

“It’s woo, not… what you just said!” Lin Sha hadn’t expected him to shout it out. Though she’d agreed, the wager made her blush with embarrassment—especially at his suggestive phrasing.

“No difference—wooing or pursuing, it’s all the same,” Yang Jiekai replied, not even glancing at Lin Sha, instead flashing a wicked grin at the employees gathered by his shout.

Lin Sha’s face burned, and she glared at Yang Jiekai, gritting out, “Wait until the contest is over!” With that, she hurried away on her heels.

As Lin Sha walked off, Qin Feng slowly extended a thumb to Yang Jiekai, his tone reverent. “Brother, you’ve really got guts!”

Before Yang Jiekai could graciously accept the compliment, Qin Feng added, “But let me give you some advice: don’t court disaster.”

“Get lost!” Yang Jiekai feigned a slap at Qin Feng, who dodged with a laugh. After some banter, the group resumed their leisurely circuit of the building.

In truth, Yang Jiekai’s words had little calculation behind them; he just disliked the way Qin Feng and Gongsun looked at him. So he was married—so what? Who says married men can’t flirt? Not only will he flirt, he’ll aim for the top: the company’s number one ice queen!

As for Lin Sha approaching him, that was no act of prescience—it was simply calculated. As the assistant just beneath the president, seeing a Security Department head slacking off would naturally prod her to come lecture him. Qin Feng and the others simply hadn’t anticipated it.

After wandering about, nearly time for the end of the workday, Yang Jiekai was heading to change clothes when his shoulder radio suddenly crackled—the Security team at the gate was calling.

“Calling, calling! There’s trouble at the main entrance—requesting backup!”

Yang Jiekai frowned. Security was probably the most relaxed department in Silkbud Group. He’d worked here some time and never encountered a real incident—just endless patrols. Now, just before clock-out, trouble? This would delay his dinner!

Annoyed, he responded on the radio, then quickly summoned Qin Feng and the others, who were also in the locker room, and hurried to the main entrance.

Descending the elevator, Yang Jiekai saw a group of burly men in sleeveless shirts, some tattooed, blocking the entrance and cursing—clearly no harmless visitors.

“What’s going on?” Yang Jiekai pushed through the crowd, just in time to see the thugs shoving the Security guards.

“Out of the way! Anyone blocks me, I’ll make them regret it!” barked a burly man, roughly pushing a skinny guard aside. Other guards stood trembling, faces bruised—they’d already been “greeted” by the visitors.

It was just after work; the lobby was full of employees, but none dared intervene with these fierce men, instead shrinking back in fear. Only when Yang Jiekai and his team arrived did the staff appreciate the importance of Security.

“Who are you? What do you want?” Yang Jiekai swaggered up, squinting at the leader.

“I’m here to find someone. Step aside!” The thug clearly didn’t regard Yang Jiekai, not even looking at him, scanning the crowd with ferocious eyes as if searching for someone.

“To find someone?” Yang Jiekai gestured to the visitor’s register. “Got your ID? You need to sign in first. Our company doesn’t let just anyone wander in.”

“What did you say?” The thug spun around, glaring at Yang Jiekai with murderous intent.

The men behind him moved forward threateningly, causing Silkbud employees to retreat further, some secretly dialing the police.

“Nobody call the cops, or I’ll make you regret it!” the thug shouted. The would-be callers trembled and lowered their phones.

Yang Jiekai chimed in, “Yes, everyone, don’t call the police.”

As everyone wondered why their new Security head would say such a thing, Yang Jiekai added quietly, “Just call an ambulance directly.”

His words froze the lobby. They’d thought the new Security head might have some skill, but apparently he was already preparing for a trip to the hospital.

“What’s going on here? Clear the way!” Just then, Zhang Hua, recently off duty, came downstairs, saw the crowd, and came over, frowning.

“What are you doing?” Zhang Hua glanced at the thugs, unimpressed by their scruffy appearance, and spoke with open disdain. He thought highly of himself and looked down on anyone he considered beneath him.

“Who the hell are you?” The lead thug saw Zhang Hua’s contempt and snarled.

Zhang Hua snorted. “I’m the Sales Department head. You may call me Manager Zhang, or Mister Zhao…”

“Mister? What nonsense is this? Mind your own business and get lost!” The thug impatiently shoved Zhang Hua aside.

Zhang Hua never expected these rough men would lay hands on him, and he snapped, “Do you know who I am? You riffraff, do you even know how much this suit is worth? I tell you, even if you sold yourselves, you wouldn’t match its price!”

Yang Jiekai silently sighed—this “Mister Zhao” really had no sense. He’d seen people ask for trouble, but never quite so eagerly.

Sure enough, Zhang Hua barely finished speaking before a punch landed on his eye, followed by a kick that sent him sprawling. The thugs piled on, beating him viciously.

“Damn it, your suit’s expensive? Let me show you expensive!”

Anyone would have been angered by Zhang Hua’s words, especially these obvious toughs. If that wasn’t asking for a beating, what was?

“Stop it!” At that moment, Lin Sha arrived, catching sight of Zhang Hua being pummeled. Alarmed, she cried out, “Stop, or I’ll call the police!”
