Chapter 107: Scumbag
"You..."
Han Ning was so angry she couldn't speak, gritting her teeth as she said, "You have no idea what actually happened!"
"I don't need to know!" Yang Jiekai was also incensed, shouting back, "It's just your old flame rekindling, right? If that's the case, why did you drag me here to be your shield? Go be with him then! What does dragging me into this make me?"
As Yang Jiekai spoke, an inexplicable sourness welled up in his heart. He didn't know if it was jealousy or something else. He was accustomed to Han Ning never giving him a pleasant look, and logically, he shouldn't have been so easily provoked. Yet, for some reason, seeing Han Ning get angry at him on behalf of her ex-boyfriend ignited a nameless fury in his chest.
By now, a crowd of onlookers had gathered. Yang Jiekai scanned them, snarling, "What are you looking at? There's nothing to see here, so get the hell out of my sight!"
"Hey kid, who do you think you're talking to?"
This was a high-end restaurant, and the people who frequented such places were either wealthy or influential. They weren't about to swallow such an insult, and a hot-tempered man immediately stood up to challenge him.
Yang Jiekai followed the voice, spotted a young man in a suit, and vented all his frustration on him. "I'm talking to you, that's who! What are you going to do about it?"
"Say that again if you dare!" the young man retorted.
Suddenly, two men in black emerged from behind the young man. One of them pointed at Yang Jiekai and demanded, "Do you have any idea who you're talking to?"
"I do. I'm talking to a dog!"
"You're asking for death!"
The man in black roared and lunged at Yang Jiekai with a fist. Yang Jiekai, already boiling with rage, didn't bother to dodge. He threw his own fist out with lightning speed to meet the attack.
*Thud! Crack!*
A dull impact was followed by the sickening sound of breaking bones. The man in black’s face twisted in agony; his entire hand had been shattered by Yang Jiekai’s punch.
The other man in black rushed forward, attempting a kick, but Yang Jiekai grabbed his ankle and twisted it with force. Another *crack* echoed through the room—his ankle had snapped.
After disposing of the two men, Yang Jiekai stepped forward and poked the young man in the chest. "Well? How many more people do you have? Send them all at once; I’m just getting warmed up!"
"Sir, let's talk this over." A woman suddenly stepped between them, looking at Yang Jiekai with concern. "Sir, please, don't resort to violence. Let's discuss this calmly."
Yang Jiekai was in the middle of his fury and was ready to beat the young man, but he heard Han Ning’s angry voice from the side: "Yang Jiekai!"
With tears shimmering in the corners of her eyes, she glared at him. "Is fighting all you ever do? You’ve truly disappointed me!"
Yang Jiekai laughed mockingly. "Fine, I’m a brute. I’m not good enough for you. Go find your old lover—do whatever you want!"
With that, he turned on his heel and stormed out of the restaurant.
Han Ning was so frustrated that tears streamed down her face. The truth was, she hadn't brought Yang Jiekai along just to use him as a shield, but she never expected...
Yang Jiekai didn't even understand why he was so furious. Was he jealous because Han Ning blamed him for the sake of that other man?
*Impossible!*
Yang Jiekai smiled bitterly. They were only a contract-bound couple; how could he possibly be jealous of her? He shook his head vigorously, trying to push these messy thoughts aside, comforting himself with the idea that he had only married Han Ning to eventually secure a share of the property when they divorced.
But Yang Jiekai overlooked one thing: not long ago, he had come out of retirement, leaving his life as a mercenary behind to return to the battlefield solely for her sake. He had handed over all his commissions to her and helped the Ziyu Company secure over a dozen partners. In reality, a subtle, quiet affection for Han Ning had already taken root in his heart—he just hadn't realized it yet, or perhaps, he was unwilling to face or admit it.
Besides, he wouldn't suffer the "Heavenly Tribulation" for another three years; at this point, he could easily choose to divorce her...
He returned home in a foul mood and happened to run into Han Wei, who looked equally despondent.
"Where are you going?" they asked each other at the door. Yang Jiekai asked casually.
Han Wei glanced at him and sighed, "I'm in a bad mood. Come on, I'll take you somewhere exciting. Keep me company for a drink!"
Yang Jiekai was feeling bothered himself, so he agreed immediately. He also wanted to find a place to drown his frustrations in alcohol.
Throughout the drive, Han Wei drove her red Ferrari at breakneck speed, her face etched with sorrow. She didn't say a word, which was a sharp contrast to her usual demeanor.
"Hey, little sister-in-law, what's wrong with you? Where are you taking me?" Yang Jiekai sensed something was off with his beautiful sister-in-law.
"Stop babbling! You'll see when we get there!" Han Wei snapped impatiently, her brow remaining furrowed in distress.
Seeing her expression, Yang Jiekai wisely decided to keep quiet.
Han Wei brought him to a private club in the suburbs. After she presented a VIP card, two staff members led them inside. The club looked unremarkable from the outside, like a typical tea house, but when the staff opened an inconspicuous door in the corner, a whole new world revealed itself.
The air was filled with deafening cheers and screams. People were behaving like madmen, drinking and hollering. It was a semi-basement bar, and the highlight was a ten-square-meter iron cage in the center where two shirtless, muscular men were fighting.
Yang Jiekai could tell the two fighters had some skill. They wore no protective gear, and every blow landed with brutal, flesh-tearing force. Yet, this didn't surprise him; he had seen plenty of this back when he was a mercenary. Occasionally, when he had downtime, he liked to visit underground fighting pits to earn a little extra cash.
Of course, the underground pits from his past were far more lethal; if you lost, you were likely to lose your life. It was in an underground arena in a Southeast Asian country that he had beaten Fujitani Go, ranked eighth in the Weaponry Records, to death. Fujitani had mastered karate to a supernatural level and possessed a technique similar to the "Golden Bell Shield," making every part of his body a lethal weapon. God knows how much effort it had taken Yang Jiekai to take that guy down.
"Give me two of your strongest drinks!"
Han Wei chose a table near the cage and immediately ordered two high-proof cocktails mixed from several different spirits.
"Bottoms up!" Han Wei raised her glass, looking at Yang Jiekai.
"Huh?" Yang Jiekai paused.
Han Wei said impatiently, "Are you drinking or not? If not, I'll go find someone else!"
Left with no choice, Yang Jiekai tilted his head back and downed the drink, which was at least seventy percent alcohol. Han Wei finished hers in one go as well.
"Waiter, two more!" It seemed Han Wei intended to drink until she passed out tonight.
"Wait!"
Yang Jiekai quickly stopped her. If they kept drinking like this, they would both be out cold. "Can you tell me what happened today?"
From the start, Yang Jiekai had felt that Han Wei was acting strange. The wild girl was usually carefree, but she always had her own principles; this was the first time he had seen her like this.
"My boyfriend cheated on me!" Han Wei gritted her teeth, finally revealing the truth.
"Oh, I see. In cases like this..." Yang Jiekai started, then suddenly froze. "Wait, what? Since when did you have a boyfriend?"
Han Wei tearfully recounted the story. She had indeed dated a man while abroad, but she hadn't told anyone. This morning, she had suddenly spotted him in Anhai City with another woman. When she approached him to confront him, he dumped her on the spot and humiliated her. When she tried to slap him, he grabbed her wrist and slapped her instead. She was filled with grievance, which led to their current situation.
"Damn it!"
Yang Jiekai was incensed. "Where is that guy? Tell me, I'll go find him and settle the score for you right now."
Han Wei sighed softly, "Forget it. I'll just consider myself blind for having picked him. I never want to see that scumbag again."
Yang Jiekai thought about it and let the matter drop.
By then, the fight in the cage had ended. The loser was beaten into a pulp, while the winner basked in the applause of the crowd.
"Drowning sorrows only makes them deeper. Let's go, I'll take you somewhere else. This isn't the place for you right now." Seeing her like this made Yang Jiekai feel a pang of sympathy.
"No!"
Han Wei refused, ordering two more strong drinks from the waiter. She looked at Yang Jiekai and said, "Brother-in-law, I just want to go crazy tonight. Can you keep me company?"
Looking at Han Wei’s red-rimmed eyes, Yang Jiekai sighed. "Alright. I'll go crazy with you tonight. But let's agree on this: once tonight is over, you have to put this behind you for good."
Having made up his mind, Yang Jiekai joined her in the revelry, drinking and shouting along with the crowd at the new pair of fighters in the cage.
Just then, a man approached. When Han Wei saw him, her expression shifted instantly.
"Weiwei, I was wrong. Please, give me another chance. I'm begging you."
As soon as the man saw Han Wei, he grabbed her by the shoulders.
"Wang Zhizhong, you bastard, get out of my sight right now!"
The man, Wang Zhizhong, refused to let go. "Weiwei, I really made a mistake. Give me another chance. I was wrong, I was really wrong!"
*Slap!*
Before the man could finish his sentence, he took a heavy slap to the face.
Even a fool could see who the man was now. After slapping him, Yang Jiekai shouted, "So you're the scumbag! Get lost, now!"
