Yan Ruoxi confided everything about her situation to Chen Meng, which touched him deeply. This senior was truly a good person.

“Senior, thank you,” Chen Meng said sincerely. “I really have nothing to repay you with. How about giving myself to you? I’m a year younger than you—it’d be a good deal for you.”

Yan Ruoxi was dumbfounded, momentarily unable to grasp Chen Meng’s sense of humor.

After a long pause, Yan Ruoxi chided him, “Keep dreaming.”

Chen Meng burst out laughing. He couldn’t believe he had dared to tease even a senior with a divine body—he was truly bold.

Disregarding him, Yan Ruoxi returned to their tutoring session. “Now that you don’t have any more questions, let’s begin today’s lesson. You’ve improved rapidly lately, but you still need to keep pushing before the college entrance exams. Try to aim for an even higher score.”

“Alright.”

Although Chen Meng planned to use his knowledge-flipping ability to improve his academic scores, it wouldn’t be possible for every subject. After all, there were six major subjects, and the amount of knowledge required was immense.

That evening, on his way home, he passed by a roast chicken shop. Out of habit, he bought a chicken, only to remember when he reached his old apartment that Mouse Bei Bei was long gone.

He carried the chicken home, but in the end, didn’t eat it himself and simply put it in the fridge.

Hearing the door, both his parents came out.

“Dad, Mom,” Chen Meng called.

His mother didn’t say a word but picked up a set of clothes from the table. “You bought this? This set must have cost nearly two thousand yuan.”

Chen Meng nodded. “What’s wrong?”

His father snorted, “Where did you get the money?”

Chen Meng felt helpless. He remembered he hadn’t yet explained about Mouse Bei Bei’s little stash to them, so he told them everything.

He hadn’t dared to say anything before, worried that his parents would confiscate the money. Now that it was all spent, there was nothing to worry about.

Both parents were dumbstruck after hearing his explanation.

“You spent over a hundred thousand in a single morning?” his mother blurted out—an amount equivalent to four years of her salary.

His father was equally stunned, beginning to wonder if this person before him was really his son.

Chen Meng realized it was time to be completely honest with his parents. The path he would take in the future was bound to be a dangerous one.

“Mom, Dad, I might soon be advancing to divine body status,” Chen Meng said after some thought. He truly intended to do so; once the old man confirmed his foundation was solid, he would choose the Pale Elixir as his first advancement, and perhaps, like Yan Ruoxi, he would eventually take a second or even a third advancement elixir.

A person needed dreams—otherwise, what difference was there from a salted fish? As a certain teacher in another world once said, you should always have dreams; what if they come true?

“Aren’t you still not even in college?” his father asked, puzzled.

“It’s a reward from the Law Enforcement Bureau,” Chen Meng answered truthfully, and explained the three options they had given him.

“Why didn’t you choose Jiangzhou University?” his mother grew anxious, “Your grades aren’t good. Wouldn’t that be better than the advancement elixir? Once you’re admitted as a special recruit, wouldn’t Jiangzhou University give you an advancement elixir anyway?”

His father nodded, convinced that was the best choice for Chen Meng.

“I know that,” Chen Meng said with a helpless shrug. “But I want to apply to Jiangdu University. Jiangzhou is just a second-tier university; the resources it can offer can’t compare to those of a top-tier school like Jiangdu.”

“You want to go to Jiangdu University?” His father laughed heartily. “Silly boy, I know your grades. I was always embarrassed to go to your parent-teacher meetings. How could you suddenly turn things around in just one school year and aim for Jiangdu University?”

His mother couldn’t help but cover her mouth and laugh. It seemed her son had gone mad.

Chen Meng, imitating the tone of a famous tycoon, said mischievously, “I just wanted to live as an ordinary person, but all I got was disdain. Fine, I won’t pretend anymore. I’ll come clean—I’m actually a top student.”

Both parents covered their mouths, but their eyes were filled with disbelief.

Chen Meng knew it would be hard to convince them, so he decided to let the facts speak for themselves.

“In the last rune test, I scored 133, ranking first in my class. In today’s artifact forging test, I got 136, and I finished fifty minutes earlier than the others. As for the academic subjects, I’m still a bit behind, but it’s true—I’m a top student now.”

His parents exchanged glances, both falling silent.

“Could this be real?” his mother murmured.

“How should I know?” his father replied helplessly, feeling as if lightning had struck out of a clear sky.

“Don’t you have Chen Meng’s homeroom teacher’s number? Call and ask,” his mother suggested, regardless of the time.

His father slapped his thigh in agreement, immediately pulling out his phone.

On the other end, Chen Meng’s homeroom teacher—someone with whom he wasn’t particularly close—had already heard about Chen Meng’s situation that afternoon. Yang Shu had also relayed what Han Hao had said.

When he answered the call and learned it was Chen Meng’s father, his tone grew gentle. “You’re asking about Chen Meng? Yes, Chen Meng is an excellent student. His grades have improved—no, actually, they were always good; he just didn’t like to show off before. I think he’ll have no problem getting into Jiangdu University. You’ve raised a fine son. He’ll be the pride of our class, and I’m honored to be his homeroom teacher.”

Chen Jianghe was stunned. Was this really Chen Meng’s teacher? In the past, whenever he called, the man was impatient and would complain endlessly about Chen Meng’s shortcomings. Today, he sounded like a completely different person.

After hanging up, Chen Meng’s father muttered, “Pinch me, see if I’m dreaming.”

His mother obliged, pinching him hard.

“Ow! Ow!” his father cried out, staring at the bruise on his arm. “Well, I guess I’m not dreaming. My son really is a top student.”

Chen Meng spread his hands helplessly. Explaining all this was truly exhausting.

“Mom, Dad, so please don’t make such a big deal about me buying you things. I’ll do it often from now on. If there’s nothing else, you should get some rest.” As he spoke, Chen Meng was thinking of a good way to earn more knowledge points—buying gifts for his parents. He’d never have to worry about not spending money again.

“Alright, alright,” his father replied, still muttering to himself, “My son is a top student,” as if in a trance.
