Chapter 40: Let's Find Time to Use the Restroom Together
“Idiot~” Jiang Yun sneered as he looked at the phone, now silent. He had anticipated that after Daixiaomei cleared out her inventory, the officials at SharkFight would come looking for him. At that point, they would realize he didn’t intend to continue streaming on their platform. Naturally, that would set them into a panic. After all, they always hoped to cultivate more top streamers for their site, bringing in even more money. Their previous attitude toward Jiang Yun had only existed because they thought they had him under their thumb.
But once they realized they couldn’t control him at all, they were bound to come around, heads bowed. There was nothing strange about it. Modern companies are all the same: when they think they’ve got their employees in a bind, they squeeze them for all they’re worth. When that doesn’t work, they start selling dreams. If dreams don’t work, they play the emotional card. If that still fails, they offer a bit more money. From beginning to end, the employee is never seen as an actual person; every so-called compromise is just a new form of manipulation. If the employee gives in at any point, the company will just keep repeating this cycle—until the employee finally refuses to play along.
So Jiang Yun simply skipped all the intermediate steps and went straight for the heart of it.
You want to control me? Then I’ll just quit! There are plenty of platforms out there; surely one will let me stream. I’m a civil servant streamer who only does two hours a day—what do I have to fear? Jiang Yun usually followed the streaming rules because he was a stickler for order, not because he was intimidated by the platform.
If this place won’t have me, another will!
Beep, beep, beep—
Just as he was thinking this, Jiang Yun’s phone rang. He glanced at the screen and saw it was Mozi calling via WeChat.
Hm?
Jiang Yun answered, sounding a little puzzled. “Hello?”
“Hey, Yunzi, you’re not streaming on SharkFight anymore, right?”
“That’s right, I’m planning to try my luck on TikTok. Did Daixiaomei tell you?”
“Well, have you considered Tiger Platform? They just asked me to reach out to you—they can offer you an S-tier contract.”
Jiang Yun: ……
“Sis Mozi, I spent over a million on Daixiaomei and even she couldn’t convince me to sign. What makes you think you can?” Jiang Yun replied in a languid tone.
“So, if you don’t sign, would you still come to Tiger?”
Jiang Yun: ????
“Aren’t Tiger and SharkFight the same company?”
“Yeah, but they operate separately.”
“But Daixiaomei told me before that both Tiger and SharkFight put restrictions on me together?”
“That was then. Back then, SharkFight was grooming you to be a top streamer, but you hadn’t made it yet, so Tiger gave them face. Now that they see you can make it on your own, they want to poach you.”
Jiang Yun’s confusion only deepened.
“Wait, in less than a day, how does Tiger know for certain I’ll make it big?”
“It’s simple!” Mozi explained. “You’re lively, you’ve got gaming skills, you have a decent fan base, and both Tuntun and I can help bring you traffic. Most important of all… you’re rich! Someone who has over a million unused fins in their inventory—would it be hard for you to buy enough traffic to become a top streamer?”
Jiang Yun: ……
So it all comes down to that million-plus fins catching their eye!
Thinking about it, it made sense: if he had more than a million fins just lying idle, how many more could he get if he really started spending? He had the skills, the charisma, a fan base, and was willing to splash cash… all these factors combined, even Jiang Yun had to admit it would be hard for him not to become a top streamer.
Although he was the only one who knew he didn’t actually have any spare money for buying traffic. All his fins were system rewards.
But nobody else knew that! Which was why Mozi was now acting as Tiger’s spokesperson.
Still, Jiang Yun decided to refuse.
“Forget it, I’ll just stream on TikTok. Why should I bother with Tiger? They wanted to team up with SharkFight to mess with me before—why would I go to them now?”
“Come on, Yunzi, aren’t we all streaming to make money? Who turns down money?”
“I’m not exactly hurting for cash.”
“Uh…”
That left Mozi at a loss for words. She was just acting as a go-between, not an actual Tiger staff member—she couldn’t promise Jiang Yun anything tempting. And since he didn’t care about money, she had no idea how to persuade him.
“Alright, I know what you’re after. I’m not going to Tiger. Let’s meet up to take a dump together some time. Bye.”
With that, Jiang Yun hung up.
On the other end, after a moment of silence, Mozi relayed Jiang Yun’s answer to the people at Tiger.
“So? What did he say?”
“He said, ‘Let’s meet up to take a dump together some time.’”
Tiger staff: ?????
………
Having decided to leave SharkFight, Jiang Yun was determined to keep up his time-filling strategy to the very end. So, as the clock ticked past eleven at night, instead of sitting at his computer, he grabbed his car keys and headed to the parking garage.
Tonight, he’d stream outdoors.
By the time he drove out of his residential complex, it was almost midnight.
Jiang Yun mounted his phone and opened up his live stream on TikTok.
He had expected that, with no prior announcement, his sudden move to TikTok would mean very few viewers.
But to his surprise, within five minutes of going live, the number of viewers shot past ten thousand, edging toward twenty thousand!
“You really never start streaming until the very last minute!”
“You’re ruthless—not a second before midnight!”
“What’s going on? Why aren’t you streaming at home tonight?”
“Looks like he’s in his car. Outdoor stream tonight?”
“Outdoor? Where are you headed, Yunzi?”
“……”
Faced with the barrage of comments, Jiang Yun looked puzzled. “Wait, how did you all get here so fast? Damn, I didn’t even notify anyone—how are there already almost twenty thousand people in here? Are you all hackers?”
Hearing his confusion, the chat suddenly united.
“Turn on voice chat and we’ll tell you.”
“Open voice chat and we’ll tell you.”
“You’ll find out if you turn on voice chat.”
“Want to know? Then open voice chat!”
“……”
Jiang Yun thought it over, then enabled the voice chat function. Instantly, over a hundred requests popped up. He picked one at random and, without ceremony, said, “Hello? Which one of you jokers is going to tell me how you found my TikTok stream?”
“Yunzi, I love you!”
The male fan on the other end ignored the question and blurted out something totally unrelated.
“Yeah, yeah, I get it. But how did you know I was streaming here?” Jiang Yun waved his hand dismissively and repeated the question.
“Yunzi, I love you!”
Jiang Yun: ……
“Have you loved enough? Can you answer the question now?”
“Yunzi, I want to tickle your bellybutton!”
Jiang Yun: ……
“You’re a real freak!” Jiang Yun cursed in disgust, then hung up the voice chat.
