Chapter 163 Not as Good as Chengdu
Upon hearing Jiang Yun’s words, the viewers in the live stream started tossing out all sorts of unhelpful ideas.
"Hongyadong! If you come to Chongqing and don't go to Hongyadong, how will you know where everyone else has vanished to?"
"It has to be Ciqikou! You can't claim you've truly experienced being completely ripped off until you've been there."
"Liziba! If you guys don't go to Liziba to take photos of the monorail passing through the building, how are we supposed to watch you make fools of yourselves from up here in the high-rises?"
"It simply has to be Hongding International! That's the premier sanctuary for our Chongqing Ikuns!"
"........"
Looking at the barrage of ridiculous suggestions, Jiang Yun rolled his eyes speechlessly.
"Just look at what you guys are typing. Is there even a single decent place among them? And whoever mentioned Hongding International, shoot me a direct message with the exact address. I need to go check if they are genuine Ikuns."
With that, Jiang Yun turned his head to look at Tuntun. "Got any suggestions?"
Tuntun spread her hands. "What kind of suggestions could I possibly have? I'm not a local either."
"Not a local..." Jiang Yun rubbed his chin. "Shall we find a local and ask?"
"Ask who?" Tuntun looked at him in confusion. "Do you have friends here in Chongqing?"
The corner of Jiang Yun's mouth curved upward. "When you're out and about, friends are everywhere!"
Without another word, Jiang Yun walked straight to the roadside, flagged down a taxi, and got in with Tuntun.
"Where to, boss?"
The taxi driver asked Jiang Yun in the local Chongqing dialect.
Jiang Yun replied in Mandarin, "Master, we're visitors here in Chongqing for a trip. Do you have any recommended places?"
"Recommendations, huh?" The taxi driver asked in the familiar Sichuan-Chongqing accented Mandarin, "Now, are you looking for the kind of places outsiders love to hang out, or the places locals actually like to go?"
"Is there a difference?"
"Of course! Outsiders all love to visit stuff like Hongyadong, Ciqikou, and Liziba. We locals basically never go there, just so we don't crowd you lot out."
"Then where do you locals like to hang out?"
"Us? We generally like to go somewhere a bit... weird and spooky."
"Oh?" Jiang Yun raised an eyebrow.
Weird and spooky?
I like the sound of that!
"Then take us to some of those places you locals enjoy visiting."
"You got it!"
With that, the taxi driver started the engine and drove off toward a destination unknown to Jiang Yun.
Along the way, the driver even picked up his walkie-talkie and said in the local dialect, "Erwa, Erwa, picked up a couple of out-of-town kids who want to see where we locals hang out. I'm taking them straight to Guanyinqiao to let them experience our brand of weird and spooky, real weird and spooky~"
Hearing the driver's words, Jiang Yun and Tuntun exchanged glances.
Then Tuntun whispered into Jiang Yun's ear, "Do you think this driver is trying to ruin the local tourism bureau's reputation?"
Tuntun suspected that the driver might be taking advantage of them being outsiders and deliberately taking them on a detour.
Jiang Yun glanced at the live stream comments.
At this moment, the comments were divided into two distinct factions. One faction consisted of outsiders just like Tuntun and Jiang Yun.
"Looks like they're about to be taken on a detour~"
"Standard practice. Taxis are the same everywhere; they all love to run up the meter with detours."
"Just keep an eye on the fare. If it's too high, just file a complaint."
"I was actually planning to visit Chongqing in a few days, but seeing this makes me want to cancel."
"............"
The other faction, however, consisted of local netizens from Chongqing.
"Good grief, is this driver actually planning to take Brother Yun to the Yonghui in Guanyinqiao?"
"Judging by his tone, it really sounds like right across from Yonghui. That place is seriously bizarre."
"I know this driver! The last time I took a cab from Liziba to Shapingba, he told me I was wasting money and yelled at me to get out and take the monorail."
"........."
From the comments of the Chongqing netizens, Jiang Yun could vaguely sense that this taxi driver... seemed to be quite a character.
Therefore...
"Master, why are you driving so slowly? Didn't people say that Chongqing taxis always drive really fast?"
Hearing Jiang Yun's remark, the driver chuckled. "That's just internet chatter. We always strictly obey traffic rules when we drive. Besides, it's the morning rush hour; we can't go very fast anyway."
"Oh, so it was all just boasting. Honestly, it feels like your car is going at less than half the speed of the taxi I took in Chengdu earlier."
"What did you say?! Chengdu taxis are faster than us? Absolute nonsense!"
Jiang Yun's words hit the driver's absolute sore spot. The driver's expression tightened instantly as he declared, "Hold on tight!"
And right then, Jiang Yun felt a strong push against his back from the taxi... a real push against his back...
Out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of the speedometer shooting upward frantically.
60... 70... 80... 90... 100... 110!
Holy crap!!!!
The moment he saw the speed hit 110, Jiang Yun's heart leaped into his throat.
This was downtown! During morning rush hour, no less!
Watching the taxi weaving continuously through the sea of traffic, Jiang Yun felt as though his heart had risen all the way to his mouth.
Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap!!!
This wasn't some expressway; this was the middle of the city!
With Jiang Yun already in such a state, Tuntun was even worse off.
Looking at the cars flashing past the window in a blur, her face had turned completely pale.
Both of her hands were tightly gripping Jiang Yun's arm, her fingernails sinking deep into his flesh.
Although the viewers in the live stream couldn't see the speedometer, they could clearly feel that the car's speed had increased dramatically.
"Are you trying to court death? Why did you have to bring up Chengdu?"
"Sichuan and Chongqing are one big family, but Chengdu and Chongqing are mortal enemies for generations. Brother Yun is literally dancing right over the dragon's scale."
"To the older generation of Chongqing people, the word 'Chengdu' is a sensitive trigger."
"Brother Yun definitely knows the origin of the Chengdu-Chongqing feud. He did that entirely on purpose!"
"Brother Yun: If I don't try to get myself killed at least once a day, my whole body feels uncomfortable!"
"..........."
At this moment, Jiang Yun had zero spare energy to pay attention to the chat room; his entire body and mind were consumed by the terrifying taxi ride.
"Master, there really was no need to go quite this fast."
Upon hearing Jiang Yun's words, the driver showed no intention of slowing down whatsoever. Instead, he retorted, "Aish, what do you mean, fast? This is just the normal cruising speed for Chongqing taxis. Chengdu can't possibly be this fast, can they?"
"No, no, no, not at all! It was just me running my mouth earlier."
Jiang Yun was genuinely terrified of getting into a car crash, so he dared not act smart anymore and chose to surrender immediately.
"Well, alright then. Since you put it that way, I suppose I can swallow my pride a little and drive just a bit slower."
The driver said with a smug smile at the corner of his mouth.
Hearing this, Jiang Yun finally let out a long sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, the live stream audience burst into mockery upon seeing this scene.
"Just like that? Not gonna keep courting death?"
"Looks like even Brother Yun has moments where he's afraid of dying."
"Brother Yun: I wasn't even this nervous yesterday when I faced those two fugitives!"
"The moment the driver hit the gas, Brother Yun already knew the error of his ways."
"Who in their right mind puts racing stripes on a taxi anyway?"
"...........y"
