Chapter 126: Any Time, Any Place
In fact, Jiang Yun hadn’t studied for many years, but he did have some knowledge in this area. A few years ago, the hotpot restaurant where he worked had used something similar, and when he discovered it, he reported the place immediately. Later, when the police came, they gave him a brief lesson on the matter, which is how Jiang Yun became aware of it.
Thanks to his sixth sense, Jiang Yun was almost certain that the noodle shop owner had used poppy husks, so he wasn’t interested in watching the situation unfold any further. He then found a nearby small eatery that specialized in single-serving dishes and bought some food to settle his stomach.
Single-serving dishes—those who know, know—they’re essentially pre-packaged meals, not even quite ready-made dishes. Eating too many of them is obviously harmful to one’s health. Jiang Yun chose this place because he wanted to test how strong his sixth sense really was. Would it warn him against eating pre-packaged meals for his own good?
Clearly, his sixth sense let him down. After finishing three portions, not a single twitch in his right eyelid, no uneasy feeling at all. It seemed that for the sixth sense to proactively alert him, certain conditions had to be met. Wanting to have a Spider-Man-like instant jolt was still unrealistic. The system hadn’t fooled him; he was still very much human.
With that thought, Jiang Yun returned home. Just as he arrived, his phone buzzed. Opening it, he saw a message from Fang Siqi.
“Impressive, running into you and it’s already a criminal case in the making.”
Jiang Yun was speechless. What did that have to do with him? He had just gone out for a meal. Even if he hadn’t been there, judging by the man’s agitated report, Fang Siqi and her team wouldn’t have let the matter drop without a thorough check. The noodle shop owner had planted poppy seeds in the back yard of the shop; if Fang Siqi’s team inspected carefully, they would easily find them. Jiang Yun had merely happened to be on the scene.
“Thanks for the compliment!” Jiang Yun replied half-heartedly, thinking the matter was no longer his concern. But Fang Siqi sent another message.
“Our publicity department wants to know if we can collaborate with you using the official account to release a video.”
“? Collaborate with me?”
“Yes, about today’s noodle shop incident, which has been classified. Cases like this are rare these days, and since you were present, the public might find it interesting. It’s a good opportunity to highlight our local police’s efficiency.”
Jiang Yun was dumbfounded. What did she mean the public would be interested because he was there? What kind of logic was that? Despite his inner complaints, since it was about promoting his hometown, Jiang Yun agreed.
“Alright, send me the edited video. When I post it, I’ll tag your official account as the creator.”
“Okay, just give me your email. I’ll send it there.”
“Sure.”
After ending the conversation, Jiang Yun smirked slightly, already imagining the comment section once the video went live.
Soon, his email received the video and the official account’s ID. The video mainly combined Fang Siqi and her colleagues’ bodycam footage with the noodle shop’s surveillance recordings. Jiang Yun added the official account as co-creator and posted the video.
Though the video had nothing to do with Jiang Yun and wasn’t edited by him, his own following and presence on site justified his posting it. Since he rarely posted videos, this one immediately attracted considerable attention.
“Today, the Chengdu police received…”
Many fans initially thought they had clicked on the wrong video based on the opening. But by the end, they understood why Jiang Yun’s name was attached to the creator.
“At first, I thought I’d clicked the wrong account.”
“I’ve said it a million times—when Yunzi isn’t streaming, he’s at the police station. Why won’t you believe me?”
“No matter the time, place, or bizarre case, Yunzi is always there!”
“Whatever happens, if Yunzi’s standing there, it suddenly feels normal.”
“So, I have a question: if Yunzi ate that bowl of noodles, does that count as drug involvement?”
“.......”
Shortly after the video was posted, Jiang Yun received a call from Dai Xiaomei.
“Yunzi, did you do drugs?”
Jiang Yun was baffled. Was it just his imagination, or did Dai Xiaomei sound a bit excited?
“You seem pretty thrilled about this?”
“No, I’m just concerned about you,” she denied vehemently.
“What if I said I did?”
“That’s fine. Three years later, you’ll be a good man again. I’m already calling the rehab center for you.”
This time, Jiang Yun wasn’t mistaken; Dai Xiaomei’s tone was undeniably gloating.
“Ah???”
“Just kidding. I know you didn’t.”
“Of course! Didn’t you see the video was a collaboration with the police? If I was using, do you think they’d let me off?”
“Then why are there so many strange things happening around you?”
“How would I know? I just went out for breakfast.”
Jiang Yun was speechless: “What exactly do you want? You didn’t call just to laugh at me, did you?”
“No, I just wanted to ask if you’re free tonight. Dinner’s on me.”
Hearing this, Jiang Yun raised an eyebrow and teased, “What, aren’t you afraid a mouse will steal your clothes today?”
On the other end, Dai Xiaomei pretended not to understand.
“Huh? What? I have no idea what you mean.”
“Stop pretending. I don’t believe you didn’t see that TikTok yesterday.”
“Oh, come on, I think it was just a coincidence! Yunzi, you’re definitely not some banned star, right?”
“Then why did you change your schedule yesterday?”
“Uh... well... something came up suddenly, you know what I mean?” Dai Xiaomei stammered.
“Cut the nonsense. Where are we eating?”
“How about the hotpot place from last time?”
“The one next to where our Ferrari broke down?”
“Yeah.”
Jiang Yun teased, “Are you driving today?”
Without hesitation, Dai Xiaomei said, “I’m taking a taxi!”
“Aren’t you worried about taxis disappearing? Think about the poor cab drivers.”
“Uh…” Dai Xiaomei hesitated, then said, “Then I’ll take the subway. Just wait for me a bit.”
“Such a coward?”
“What else can I do? Who am I dining with but you, Jiang Edogawa Keyun! I don’t want the police to arrive before dinner’s even served.”
Jiang Yun: ……
This old joke just won’t die!
