Chapter 121: Violent Devouring

Gu Yue was the most successful second-generation half-beast.

He had the body of a King Kong, the mind of a martial artist, and the experience of studying at the War God Academy.

Zhang Chu’s eyes were filled with fury and mockery, along with a trace of something that made one’s heart tremble.

“Could this brat still have another trick up his sleeve?”

At this moment, Gu Yue no longer concealed his strength.

The power of a martial artist and the physical strength of a Violent King Kong erupted simultaneously, and a savage aura spread from his body.

Gu Yue swung his fist, aiming straight for Zhang Chu’s head.

“Don’t!”

Seeing this, Zhang Xueying scrambled forward on her hands and knees, trying to throw herself at them.

The others cursed Gu Yue furiously, even hurling the word “bastard” at him, all in the hope of buying Zhang Chu a little time for help to arrive.

They knew very well that with Gu Yue’s current strength, that punch would splatter Zhang Chu’s brains. He would certainly die.

Zhang Chu had reached the most critical moment.

“Congratulations, host. Ten thousand mental-power points have been consumed to activate the fifth form of Passive Devouring: Berserk Devouring!”

A white notification window appeared before Zhang Chu.

After reading the description, Zhang Chu could not help exclaiming in admiration.

This was practically the legendary Northern Darkness Divine Art!

The moment Zhang Chu laughed aloud, Gu Yue’s fist came crashing down.

“Berserk Devouring!”

As the fist, as large as a sandbag, descended, Zhang Chu raised one hand and met it with his palm.

How reckless!

Gu Yue revealed a disdainful smile.

Even a seven-star dual-power warrior could not withstand this punch, let alone the gravely injured Zhang Chu.

But soon, Gu Yue sensed that something was wrong.

His fist was firmly stuck to Zhang Chu’s palm. The power within his body was being drawn out continuously through his arm.

“What… what is happening?”

Gu Yue panicked completely.

He tried to break free from Zhang Chu, but to no avail.

Thud!

Amid Zhang Xueying and the others’ horrified cries, Gu Yue dropped to one knee. His enormous body rapidly shrank, and his battle form vanished.

“Damn, this feels amazing!”

Zhang Chu rose to his feet, eyes closed, wearing an expression of utter bliss.

“Sister Xueying, what… what is going on?”

Wang Peng was completely dumbfounded.

The few of them exchanged bewildered glances. None of them had expected Zhang Chu to survive such desperate circumstances, but they had not seen clearly how he had subdued the half-beast Gu Yue.

“Dad, call off the missile launch first. It looks like… we won’t need it.”

Zhang Xueying hurriedly sent a message to Zhang Daoyi.

“I can sense the half-beast’s power continuously flowing into Brother Zhang Chu’s body.”

Huang Lili’s mental power was the most sensitive among them, and she had detected the transfer of energy.

He could absorb power directly?

Upon hearing this, Chen Long’s eyes trembled.

“I’ve worked at the Martial Administration Bureau for so many years, but I’ve never heard of a martial technique like this.”

Gu Yue’s body continued to shrink.

Even the scales on his body began to fall away.

He panicked completely.

“Zhang Chu, stop! What have you done to me? Stop immediately!”

Zhang Chu had no time to care about the pleas of a bastard.

With his eyes closed, he savored the endless stream of power entering his body. After repairing his internal organs along his meridians, the energy split into three parts.

The first entered his sea of consciousness, replenishing his depleted mental power.

The second circulated through his meridians, rapidly restoring his martial power.

But most of the energy was frantically devoured by the Vine Demon Seed.

In just one minute, the Vine Demon Seed had actually taken root and begun to sprout.

Zhang Chu could feel it.

The Vine Demon Seed was now even more powerful.

“Brother Chu is terrifying. Gu Yue has almost shrunk into a child.”

Watching Gu Yue shrink from a form more than two meters tall into a short, miserable figure barely one and a half meters high, Hu Sanyi repeatedly drew in sharp breaths, his scalp prickling.

“What strange mental-power combat skill did that fellow learn from Guan Zifang?”

Zhang Xueying had kept her eyes on Zhang Chu the entire time, but her face was glowing with delight.

The man she had chosen should be able to rise from the brink of death.

“Ding-dong. Five minutes of Berserk Devouring have elapsed.”

Just as Zhang Chu was thoroughly enjoying himself, the system automatically cut off Berserk Devouring.

The Vine Demon Seed stopped growing.

“Ding-dong. The host has used the Berserk Devouring skill. Martial-power points plus fifteen thousand. Mental-power points plus fifteen thousand.”

“Congratulations, host. You have advanced to six stars.”

Looking at the personal information panel displayed by the system, Zhang Chu was so excited that he nearly shouted aloud.

Good heavens!

He had only devoured the half-beast for five minutes, yet he had gained so much power.

The six-star strength he had lost had returned to him!

Gu Yue collapsed onto the ground, panting like a dying dog.

He was utterly drained, as though he had been wrung dry of every last ounce of vitality.

More than half the scales had fallen from his body, leaving him looking like a plucked monkey.

“Xiao Chu, are you all right?”

After recovering from their shock, everyone quickly gathered around him.

“Your aura is even stronger now.”

Chen Long sized Zhang Chu up, then draped an arm around his shoulder.

“Professor Zhang Chu, you’re a teacher, after all. How about I become your student for once? Teach me that mental-power combat skill you just used.”

Only after seeing that Zhang Chu looked perfectly fine did Zhang Xueying let out a sigh of relief.

“You nearly scared us to death just now.”

“Brother Chu, Teacher Xueying was crying earlier. She even had the Martial Administration Bureau and the Armaments Division prepare high-energy missiles.”

Hu Sanyi smiled slyly.

“Shouldn’t we start calling Teacher Xueying our sister-in-law from now on?”

Having survived the ordeal, Wang Peng began joking in front of everyone.

Huang Lili stood off to the side without saying a word, feeling a little bitter inside.

Zhang Xueying was the city lord’s daughter. She truly could not compare with her.

“Let’s… take care of business first.”

Zhang Chu glanced at the blushing Zhang Xueying.

Only then did the others remember that a half-human bastard was still lying on the ground.

“Gu Yue, you were once the second-greatest genius in Binzhou. Just look at what you’ve become. You’re a damned disgrace!”

Chen Long kicked Gu Yue over, turning him onto his back.

Only then did Zhang Chu take another close look at Gu Yue.

At first glance, he was genuinely startled.

“Holy crap, this Berserk Devouring is absurd! It actually drained a Violent King Kong into a King Kong Barbie!”

Gu Yue looked at least thirty years older.

He had even lost the hair all over his body.

It was revolting.

“Zhang Chu, as long as I survive, I will definitely kill you and refine you into a spirit-energy pill!”

Gu Yue was unwilling to accept defeat and glared viciously at Zhang Chu.

Smack! Smack! Smack!

Wang Peng rolled up his sleeves, climbed onto Gu Yue, and began raining slaps across his face.

“You filthy bastard! You dared to grind Xiao Chu into the ground. I’ll kill you!”

“That’s enough. He’s nearly dead.”

Only when he saw that Gu Yue was barely breathing did Zhang Chu intervene.

“You hypocritical martial artists from the Martial Administration Bureau can forget about getting any information regarding the Fallen God Alliance from me!”

“I may not be able to kill you, but the Dark Web’s contract will continue. Someone else will come for you!”

Gu Yue sneered.

“I never intended to ask you. You aren’t worthy.”

Zhang Chu struck Gu Yue across the face, knocking him unconscious.

“Chen, call the Inspection Squad of the Martial Administration Bureau and have them come take this bastard away for a proper interrogation. Those scoundrels from the Fallen God Alliance have targeted me for some reason. I will find their base and wipe it out completely!”

Capturing a half-beast was an enormous achievement.

Chen Long thanked him while calling the Inspection Squad.

To his credit, he was loyal enough not to forget to claim that capturing the half-beast had been the collective achievement of their mercenary group.

Soon, a helicopter from the Inspection Squad arrived and carried the unconscious Gu Yue away.

The group planned to rest for an hour.

Zhang Chu took some medicine for his internal injuries, closed his eyes, and asked the system in detail about Berserk Devouring.

According to the system, once he reached seven stars, he could activate the passive-devouring skill Berserk Devouring, allowing him to directly absorb the energy of any living creature, including martial artists, demon beasts, half-beasts, and plants.

The duration of each activation depended on his cultivation level.

At the entry level of seven stars, it could last only seven minutes and could be used once per day.

The higher his cultivation level, the longer it would last, and the more frequently it could be used.

As for the amount of energy absorbed, that depended on the opponent’s cultivation.

The system did not explain the exact calculation.

Because Zhang Chu was only at six stars, he was not yet qualified to know.

This left Zhang Chu deeply depressed.

“Teacher Xiao Chu, Director Fan and Dean Luo just called. The appearance of a half-beast is no small matter. They want us to conduct a thorough search of Qingcheng Mountain and, if possible, locate the facility where the half-beasts are being bred.”

“War God One, a drone equipped with a high-energy missile warhead, will assist us.”

Just as Zhang Chu exited the system, Zhang Xueying sat down beside him.

Hu Sanyi and the others had also mostly recovered and gathered around.

“Tell Old Luo that we’re moving in immediately.”

Even without orders from the Martial Administration Bureau and the academy, Zhang Chu wanted to continue investigating.

Finding the half-beast breeding facility was one objective.

More importantly, Zhang Chu needed to break through to seven stars as quickly as possible and activate Berserk Devouring.
