Chapter 4 The Explosive Values of the Green Tea Gold Digger
“Brother Luo, you’re alive! I thought you couldn’t handle failing to confess your feelings and jumped into the river!”
Outside Dormitory 11, a tall, slender young man caught sight of Chen Luo returning and shouted with delight, drawing the attention of passing students who all glanced at Chen Luo.
“Liu, can you not make such a fuss?” Chen Luo looked at his best friend, Liu Hao, with exasperation.
“How could I lose my mind over a manipulative girl like that? That’d be just humiliating.”
This roommate and sworn brother of his often spoke without thinking. Yet, he was a genuinely good person—in Chen Luo’s previous life, during the early days of his business venture, Liu Hao helped in every way he could, even risking his savings and mortgaging his house to keep Chen Luo’s capital chain afloat.
When Chen Luo’s company finally reached its peak, he hurried to repay Liu Hao and tried to bring him into the company, offering him shares. But Liu Hao refused.
Later, Chen Luo learned it was because Liu Hao didn’t want their relationship to change. He wanted to remain Chen Luo’s friend and brother, not turn into an employee or subordinate. That loyalty, Chen Luo remembered to this day.
“Whoa, you’ve changed, huh? Are you serious? You’re really not going after Tang Xiwei anymore?” Liu Hao remained skeptical. After all, Chen Luo had pursued Tang Xiwei for so long, so obsessively, he’d even survived on instant noodles for half a month just to save up money to buy her gifts. How could he simply give up?
“Of course I’m serious. I’m hungry. Come with me for some skewers—my treat.”
“Alright! Godfather! I want grilled chicken wings! Extra spicy!” Liu Hao was overjoyed.
It wasn’t that he was simply happy about Chen Luo buying him barbecue, but that his brother was finally willing to spend money on him. All those days scrimping and saving to pursue Tang Xiwei—no amount of persuasion had worked.
“Alright, eat as much as you want. Let’s go.”
Actually, Chen Luo wasn’t just going for some barbecue; he wanted to visit those rowdy stalls to gather information and confirm a few suspicions.
“Chen Luo, stop right there!” An angry voice rang out behind them.
Liu Hao turned to see Tang Xiwei, accompanied by her roommate Lin Tingting, glaring at Chen Luo with fury.
Tang Xiwei was dressed in a blue fairy-like dress, her makeup flawless, attracting glances wherever she went.
Chen Luo, however, didn’t even look back and kept walking.
Tang Xiwei was fuming. She’d imagined that as soon as she confronted him with authority, Chen Luo would be scared out of his wits, hurry over to apologize, and try to make it up to her.
At worst, she’d expected a fight. But what was happening now?
Chen Luo wasn’t even looking at her—was he treating her as invisible? Why wasn’t this going as she’d imagined?
Liu Hao wanted to ask, but Chen Luo was already a dozen steps ahead, nearly at the dormitory gate.
“Tap, tap, tap!”
Tang Xiwei grabbed her roommate and trotted after him, blocking his path.
“Chen Luo, what do you mean by this? Don’t you realize how good I’ve been to you lately?”
“I accepted your gifts, let you bring me meals, even had you follow me everywhere—isn’t that good enough?”
At that, Liu Hao rolled his eyes.
That’s your idea of being good? Thanks a lot. Even feudal slave masters at least fed their slaves—your exploitation is pure, not even treating people as people.
Chen Luo merely looked at her coldly. Yes, very good.
So good that in his last life, he gave her everything, and she was still dissatisfied—she killed him herself, taking his wealth.
For such a selfish, calculating woman, he must have been out of his mind to ever be smitten.
“Let’s go, Luo. No need to mess with such a brainless woman—you could find anyone better than her.” Liu Hao tried to pull Chen Luo away.
Hearing Liu Hao’s words, Tang Xiwei exploded, her fists clenched, tears welling in her eyes.
“Chen Luo, you scumbag!”
“Tell me! Is it because of that girl you gave flowers to the other day?”
“Have you no conscience? I was giving you a chance to prove yourself! Why aren’t you pursuing me anymore?”
“You scumbag—you’ll get what you deserve!”
Tang Xiwei’s outburst stopped the nearby students in their tracks, gathering to watch, casting judgmental glances at Chen Luo.
A pure college girl publicly denouncing a faithless man—this was sure to make the campus gossip headlines.
Liu Hao sensed things turning ugly and hurried to defend Chen Luo.
“Tang Xiwei! Aren’t you being unreasonable? You strung Chen Luo along, refused his confession, yet happily took his gifts and flowers, had him do everything for you, every day.”
“And you call him a scumbag? You’re the gold-digger here!”
With Liu Hao’s words, the crowd grew even more animated—this was juicy news.
So the so-called scumbag wasn’t actually a scumbag—the pure campus beauty was the gold-digger manipulator.
As the whispers spread, Tang Xiwei remained oblivious, tearful and indignant.
“Hmph! I was testing Chen Luo’s devotion to me, and how I test him, for how long, that’s up to me!”
“I can’t just give myself to someone who might treat me badly in the future!”
“And now it’s proven—he gave up halfway. He wasn’t sincere enough! I made the right decision!”
Her words sounded reasonable, but some faces in the crowd already showed disgust.
Impressive—clearly a manipulative gold-digger, yet speaking so self-righteously, as though exploiting a lovesick fool was perfectly justified.
Tang Xiwei wanted to continue, but her roommate Lin Tingting grabbed her hand and spoke.
“Xiwei, he’s not worth your anger. There are plenty of outstanding men at Hangzhou University—a dime a dozen.”
“Why bother about such a penniless, hopeless loser?”
“You might as well call Senior Liu Feng—have him drive his family’s Mercedes to take you for a spin.”
“Screech… screech…”
Just as she finished, the sound of brakes echoed, and the crowd, along with Tang Xiwei, turned toward the gate.
A Maybach screeched to a halt at the entrance, leaving two deep tire marks.
“A Mercedes emblem? Is Senior Liu Feng really here to pick me up?” Tang Xiwei’s face lit up with anticipation.
Lin Tingting, more familiar with cars, exclaimed, “Maybach! Oh my god, it’s a Maybach! Senior Liu Feng’s family is so rich—this car is worth over two million! Xiwei, you can’t let a catch like this slip by!”
Tang Xiwei was tempted, momentarily forgetting Chen Luo, and took a few steps toward the car.
Click.
The Maybach’s door opened. Tang Xiwei pictured Senior Liu Feng stepping out, handing her flowers, inviting her for a drive in front of everyone.
“Chen Luo, you really are naughty!”
A fiery figure stepped out of the car, brushed past Tang Xiwei, and walked steadily toward Chen Luo.
