Chapter 143: Grand Fan Meetup
Elder Shen had been listening to Su Chen’s series of halting, drawn-out sentences, and his emotions had been on a roller coaster—volatile, thrilling, and intense!
Having learned his lesson, Elder Shen did not rush to speak once Su Chen finished. Instead, he waited patiently, terrified that Su Chen might still have more to say. Thus, inside the consultation room, an old man and a young man stared at each other, creating a rather bizarre atmosphere.
After a long while, just as Elder Shen’s gaze began to make Su Chen feel uneasy, Su Chen finally couldn't help but ask, "Elder Shen, is there something else you're wondering about... or do you find something amiss?"
Hearing this, Elder Shen was momentarily stunned, then burst into a silent laugh.
"I was merely waiting for you, Mr. Su. I wasn't sure if you had finished what you were saying." He continued, "You are quite young, Mr. Su, yet the way you conduct yourself with such composure and deliberation is truly admirable!"
Su Chen gave an awkward, embarrassed smile. Although Elder Shen meant no offense, Su Chen had clearly sensed the older man’s emotional fluctuations. He couldn't help but feel that if they kept chatting like this, Elder Shen’s heart might give out before the patient’s did. It was true that the older generation had a way of turning everything they said into a compliment.
Su Chen rubbed his nose and said sheepishly, "Ahem... Elder Shen, please, no need to tease me. If there’s nothing else, shouldn’t we get the patient moved to a ward? Even though he’s out of danger, lying here like this isn't good for his blood circulation."
Elder Shen nodded in agreement. He summoned three or four nurses to bring over a gurney, and together they carefully lifted the patient onto it and wheeled him off to a ward.
Once they were alone, Su Chen asked, "Elder Shen, I’ll need a conference room for my teaching. Does the hospital have one?"
Elder Shen was slightly taken aback. "A conference room? Of course, we have those. But is a room enough? Do you need any equipment? Just name it, Mr. Su, and we will make it happen."
Elder Shen spoke with immense confidence, and he had every right to. Although it was named the Changsha People’s Hospital, Changsha was the capital of Hunan Province, and its facilities were on par with those in any first-tier city. In fact, the medical standards and the caliber of doctors at Changsha People’s Hospital were even higher than those at the Hunan Provincial People’s Hospital. It was a name recognized nationwide. Any standard medical equipment one could name, they had—even some new, obscure, or highly advanced devices that most wouldn't know how to operate, they had those too.
Su Chen, however, just smiled and shook his head. "The transmission of ancient Chinese medicine doesn't require high-tech equipment. Ancient conditions were far harsher than today's, yet the medical knowledge that survived was perfectly suited for propagation—take texts and poetry, for example... I’ve even seen prescriptions written as poems!"
"Actually, most of what I know can be written down, but some experiential nuances are impossible to grasp from books alone. Since I don't have the time to write a book right now, I’ll just teach everyone hands-on."
Understanding Su Chen’s intent, Elder Shen asked, "Do you have any specific requirements for the room, Mr. Su?"
Su Chen smiled. "The bigger, the better. You can call all the off-duty doctors in the hospital to come over. I want to impart as much as I can."
Elder Shen’s expression turned solemn. With misty eyes, he bowed deeply to Su Chen. "Your altruism is grand, sir! On behalf of them, I thank you for your willingness to teach without reservation, and on behalf of the public, I thank you for your selfless contribution!"
Su Chen quickly helped him up, laughing lightly. "There's nothing to thank me for; I am merely a vessel for this knowledge. If you must thank someone, thank our ancestors for leaving these things behind."
Without further delay, they headed to the largest conference room in the hospital. While Elder Shen called it a conference room, to Su Chen, it looked more like a small theater, styled much like an opera house.
It was empty at first, but following a single phone call from Elder Shen, all the doctors and specialists on duty—or simply free—flocked to the room. In an instant, the hall was filled with the clamor of voices and a sea of people. With the theater-like layout, Su Chen momentarily felt as if he were about to start a concert.
All these doctors had heard about Su Chen and the agreement made between him and Elder Shen on *Star of Tomorrow* the previous night. Elder Shen held Su Chen in high regard, and many of these doctors were fans of his already. Those who weren't on shift had volunteered to come in just for a chance to see him. Others had been coerced by their wives or daughters, all bearing the same mission: "Bring back an autograph, or that ballpoint pen in your lab coat pocket is just for show!"
Whether out of personal fandom or domestic pressure, the doctors showed immense enthusiasm. Su Chen couldn't help but twitch his lips; he felt as if he were looking at his own fans from his previous life. He never imagined his first fan meeting in this world would take place inside a hospital.
Once everyone was seated, the boisterous atmosphere was quickly silenced by Elder Shen. As the most respected figure in the hospital—the director being away in the capital for meetings—Elder Shen was the ultimate authority.
He stepped onto the stage and spoke loudly, "Everyone, quiet down!"
The room fell silent instantly. Elder Shen nodded in satisfaction. "I imagine most of you don't know why I’ve called you here today?"
The crowd shook their heads in unison.
"Then let me introduce you to our guest, who has come to Changsha People’s Hospital to offer his guidance: Mr. Su Chen!"
