Long’er did not accept the food being offered to her. Her small eyes flickered, and a fierce aura suddenly burst from her little body.

Feng Xiyan was momentarily stunned by the abrupt change. In the instant she blinked, Long’er had already dashed outside and opened the door.

“Daddy~!”

The child’s young, muffled voice made Xiao Junwang, who was standing outside, pause in surprise. He swiftly glanced over the room, then scooped Long’er into his arms and quietly backed away, closing the door behind him.

When Feng Xiyan turned back, the door had already been shut from the outside. The room was silent save for Mo Liuli’s uneven breathing.

Mo Liuli felt as though she had been trapped in a very long dream. The Mo Li in that dream had been vivid beyond measure, as if she truly had been Mo Liuli herself.

“The world means nothing to me without him by my side!”

“From this day forward, the realm shall be divided into four, each territory governed by one of the Four Protectors…”

“I want to dance for you. Even if it costs me the rest of my life, I would gladly do it…”

Broken phrases echoed through Mo Liuli’s mind, accompanied by fragmented scenes that played over and over.

Pfft!

With a muffled groan, she spat out blood and rolled onto her side. A few traces of crimson still clung to the corners of her mouth as she stared blankly at the ceiling.

“Are you feeling any better?”

A cold, unfamiliar female voice came from above. A moment later, Feng Xiyan’s upside-down face appeared over her, watching her with distant eyes.

Mo Liuli endured the violent hollowness twisting through her abdomen. Her lips pulled stiffly into a mechanical smile.

“I’m all right.”

She quickly tugged the quilt over herself, covering her body lest anything be exposed.

The people outside seemed to have heard the commotion. Before long, a voice called through the door.

“Mother, Mother, are you awake?”

Long’er’s cautious voice reached Mo Liuli’s heart, causing her eyes to grow misty for an instant. She quickly concealed it, then looked toward Feng Xiyan, who had been studying her closely all this while.

“Let her in. I’m much better now.”

Feng Xiyan said nothing, answering only through her actions. She opened the door and let everyone waiting outside enter.

She also carried out the basin of poisoned blood Mo Liuli had expelled.

Qiu Xue did not come in. When he saw the basin of bloodied water, the arm he had folded across his chest stiffened slightly. In the end, he took it without a word and carried it away to dispose of.

With several more people in the room, the atmosphere was no longer so desolate. Held in Xiao Junwang’s arms like a little adult, Long’er fussed over Mo Liuli and asked after her health.

Xiao Junwang stood silently as well, seemingly listening attentively to Long’er, though his gaze kept drifting toward Mo Liuli.

“Li’er, are you feeling better?”

“You frightened me half to death! If I find out who cursed you, I’ll tear him to pieces!”

Rao had been unable to get a word in while Long’er kept talking. The moment an opening finally appeared, he immediately spoke through gritted teeth, his eyes fixed on Mo Liuli’s face as though he could not bear to look away for even a second.

Mo Liuli had listened quietly ever since they entered the room. She merely nodded from time to time in response to Long’er’s concern and said little else. She looked frail, her complexion still pale from her recent illness.

Only when she heard Rao speak did she turn her gaze toward him.

Rao looked very much like Ge in her memories. His temperament was nearly identical, though he possessed a few more distinctly masculine qualities than Ge.

“Rao, you should be gentler. Ge must have wished for you to be as gentle as she was.”

The words slipped from Mo Liuli’s lips before she could stop them, revealing the thoughts in her heart.

“You knew my grandmother? No, that can’t be right! You’re even younger than I am. How could you possibly have known my grandmother…?”

Rao asked in confusion, then his voice gradually faded as though he were speaking only to himself.
