Chapter 48: Which Eye Saw That?
Seeing herself ignored by Rao, Mo Liuli stamped her feet in pure exasperation.
As the saying goes, the onlooker sees most of the game while the player is blinded. Rao was entirely unaware that he had already fallen into the trap set by the old fiend Huan Lan. Seeing Huan Lan narrowly dodge his consecutive strikes, he was just about to unleash his ultimate move.
"Rao, you absolute idiot! Get out of the way!"
Mo Liuli leaped straight up from the ground, pressing her fingers together before her chest. She darted between Rao and Huan Lan, blocking Rao behind her. "Fountain of Tears! Open, now!"
Spotting a sudden interloper, Huan Lan halted her movements abruptly, surprised that anyone would still risk their life at a time like this. However, upon hearing the chant, she switched back to a fierce offensive, the halo of light condensing around her hands growing even more blinding than before.
"Trying to summon? Then go die!"
Mo Liuli stood amidst a windless surge, her eyes closed as she channeled her mental energy to sense the meager water elements. The blue light locked in by her mind grew increasingly intense. Extending two fingers, Mo Liuli conjured a stream of deep blue water from her fingertips, shooting it directly toward Huan Lan.
The blue water collided with Huan Lan's incoming attack. It paused for a split second before piercing right through the halo of light, striking Huan Lan squarely in the chest.
"How is this possible? How can there still be a summoner in this realm?"
Struck by the watery current, a piercing chill surged into her body, though she quickly absorbed and neutralized it. What amazed her most was that this little maid had actually managed to summon successfully.
Huan Lan flew forward, eager to get close to Mo Liuli and inspect the situation firsthand, but she was a step too late.
Having landed her hit, Mo Liuli grabbed the hem of Rao's robe and bolted, leaving behind only her teasing voice calling out, "Farewell!"
The Fountain of Tears was a water-style attack formed by gathering swirling mist. Beyond inflicting varying degrees of damp injuries on the enemy, it also clouded their vision and served as a delaying tactic.
It was precisely because Huan Lan had been delayed by the Fountain of Tears that Mo Liuli managed to secure her chance of escape.
"Lady Huan, that woman... her figure looks rather familiar."
Huan Lan Haoyang saw that the Supreme Sovereign's expression was dark and heavy, and after a moment of hesitation, he decided to voice his suspicion.
"Who?"
Huan Lan stopped in her tracks, cutting straight to the point without wasting words.
"Mo Liuli!"
Not daring to delay, Huan Lan Haoyang immediately blurted out the name he suspected. Standing far back on the city platform behind Mo Liuli earlier, when the blue light had enveloped her, he had clearly caught sight of a pair of bare feet. Combined with her enchanting, long-haired posture, his very first instinct was that this person was Mo Liuli.
In the Huan Lan Realm, who wouldn't know that going barefoot had long become a defining trademark of Mo Liuli's identity?
Huan Lan remained silent, her gaze growing dark and fathomless.
No wonder! She had always claimed that ever since Mo Mo perished hundreds of years ago, the realm had not produced a single summoner. Yet today, some random little maid had effortlessly succeeded in summoning. So this was none other than Mo Liuli, the incarnation of Mo Mo!
Since Mo Liuli had appeared, did that mean the seals on her stone coffin had already been broken by someone?
Driven by this suspicion, Huan Lan immediately whirled around and headed toward the secret chambers. She had to go and see who possessed such heaven-defying capability to crack the stone coffin she had so meticulously arranged.
Annoyed by her erratic moods—hot one second and cold the next—Huan Lan Haoyang felt his royal temper flaring up. With a flick of his sleeves, he retreated to the crown prince's bedchamber.
"Miss Mo?"
Rao had been dragged along by this ugly maid for quite some time, completely losing track of where they had been taken, until he finally couldn't help but interrupt her flight.
Mo Liuli, disguised as an ugly maid, had kicked off her maid's shoes, yet she was still wearing the maid's uniform complete with painted mole-like spots. When Rao tentatively addressed her as Miss Mo, her foot slipped and she nearly took a tumble.
"Which of your eyes sees me as Miss Mo?"
Steadying herself, Mo Liuli lifted her chin and asked with ambiguous nonchalance.
She even purposely turned the ugly bean-sized mole toward Rao, as if silently saying, "Look, there's a mole here! Such a huge mole! Are your eyes blind?"
Mo Liuli was certain that Rao's cautious form of address was intended specifically for her as a 'Miss Mo', because she could read excitement, anticipation, uncertainty, and... disbelief swimming deep within his eyes.
