Chapter 63: The Whispering Forest III
Leng Feng, stop being angry! Here, take this! Hehe."
Looking at Leng Feng, who had a dark and seemingly angry expression after hearing Hen Queqian talk about eating him without realizing the subtext, Hen Queqian smiled with utmost fawning. She stepped forward, nudging Leng Feng's body, and offered the five-colored chicken she had just obtained into his hands as if presenting a gift to appease his wrath.
However, looking at the dead five-colored chicken in his hands, Leng Feng could not sense any fawning intention from Hen Queqian whatsoever. Frowning slightly, he asked, "What should we do now?"
"Of course, find a place near water, build a campfire, and barbecue! I haven't eaten all day, aren't you hungry?" Hen Queqian narrowed her eyes with a smile, looking around their surroundings. "It's just that I don't know where there might be a stream or a lake or some other water source around here!"
Hearing this, Leng Feng's face turned as dark as the bottom of a pot. Looking down at the dead five-colored chicken in his hand, he realized this was Hen Queqian's true objective. Even after offending him, she still didn't forget to trick him into doing the dirty work.
"Then you carry this five-colored chicken, and I'll clear the path ahead. I'll take you to find a water source!" Leng Feng said coldly, grabbing the neck of the five-colored chicken and tossing it back toward Hen Queqian.
Upon hearing this, a troubled expression appeared on Hen Queqian's face as she squirmed and hesitated. Clutching her own neck, she spoke in a delicate, aggrieved tone, "My arms are so tiny, I'm as weak as a chicken! I can't even lift a chicken this big, let alone carry it! Leng Feng, please have a heart! Just work a little harder, and later I will definitely reward you! I swear, I will absolute not let you lose out!"
Hearing this, Leng Feng rolled his eyes. "The reward you're talking about is making me your beast of burden? Do me a favor and look in the mirror at your own fake expression. Even a ghost would know your so-called oath is completely unreliable!"
"Ah, what did you say? Does your world have ghosts too? Where? Where? I'm so scared!" As soon as Leng Feng's words fell, Hen Queqian instantly lunged into his arms.
Hanging entirely around Leng Feng's neck, she exclaimed in mock terror while her little face darted around searching everywhere, seemingly terrified of the ghosts and monsters Leng Feng had mentioned!
Hen Queqian's words sparked a question in Leng Feng's mind. But just as he was about to question her, he noticed that Hen Queqian's face—supposedly full of terror as she looked around—was actually brimming with wonder and a cheeky grin. She looked nothing like someone terrified of ghosts and monsters.
Instead, she looked extremely curious, almost as if she were eager to see a ghost appear. Instantly, Leng Feng forgot his question. His lips twitched slightly as he silently sighed: Ah, women!
"Do me a favor and make your expression look a bit more sincere when you're pretending to be scared, okay? You're supposed to be terrified right now, not curious, and certainly not expectant!" Leng Feng said, pushing Hen Queqian's body away. With his free hand, he massaged his forehead, genuinely exasperated by her.
Having dropped these words, Leng Feng snorted and ignored Hen Queqian, who was playfully putting on a terrified expression, looking around and mockingly crying out, "Where is it? Where is it?"
He grabbed the long-dead five-colored chicken and dragged it as he walked deeper into the forest.
