Chapter 61: The Whispering Forest I
Hearing Hen Quexi's words, a flash of knowing amusement crossed Leng Feng's eyes. In truth, he saw through everything and understood it all. However, a mere Red Phosphorus Pill was simply not worth Leng Feng making a move.
Furthermore, since the Red Phosphorus Pill belonged to Hen Quexi, Leng Feng would never forcibly seize it. Actually, it could be said that Hen Quexi had overthought the situation, mistakenly believing that Leng Feng wanted to muscle in on her deal.
"Dating?" Upon hearing the first part of that sentence, Leng Feng's heartbeat involuntarily accelerated for a moment. But he was even more captivated by the two unfamiliar and puzzling words Hen Quexi had uttered at the end.
Many times before, Hen Quexi would speak rapidly and accidentally blurt out terms that Leng Feng completely failed to understand. Yet at times, these expressions were so fortuitously apt that they perfectly captured what she wanted to convey.
Hearing this as he walked in front, Leng Feng murmured softly and involuntarily came to a halt. He turned around to look at Hen Quexi, who was still walking toward him with her head bowed.
"That's right..." *Thud!* To cover up her guilty conscience—and because Leng Feng's discerning eyes were simply too sharp—Hen Quexi, whose cultivation was still lacking and who was far from being a master actress, knew her expression couldn't fool him.
Walking with her head down, she failed to notice that Leng Feng had already stopped directly in front of her. Nodding as she replied, she crashed straight into Leng Feng's chest, her forehead making intimate contact with his chin.
The pain brought tears to the corners of Hen Quexi's eyes. "Why did you suddenly stop in front? That hurts like hell..."
"Wasn't I just about to ask you something?" Leng Feng calmly rubbed his chin, appearing largely unaffected by the impact. This elicited no small amount of envy from Hen Quexi; if only she possessed cultivation herself, she certainly wouldn't have to suffer such pain.
Hen Quexi let out a huff, still wearing an expression of displeasure.
"Dating? I pat, and I drag—let's get moving!" Leng Feng pursued the question, then suddenly gave Hen Quexi's cheek a light slap—though without any real force, feeling more like a caress—before gently pushing her face toward the left.
Immediately afterward, while Hen Quexi stood completely dumbfounded, Leng Feng took her by the hand and dragged her directly forward. *I pat, and I drag—so this is what they call dating... Good grief!*
Caught off guard and plunged into astonishment, Hen Quexi entirely failed to notice that as Leng Feng pulled her along by the hand, his usual rigid, deadpan expression vanished. The corners of his lips curved upward slightly, revealing the very first smile of his life.
By the time Hen Quexi snapped back to reality, the two of them had already entered the perimeter of the Wind Whisper Forest. Looking around, she saw towering ancient trees all about, beneath which patches of weeds thrived in the sunlight, dotted with nameless little wildflowers that attracted fluttering butterflies.
Hen Quexi's eyes sparkled, and she completely forgot to pull her hand back. Gazing around with wide eyes, she took in her surroundings. "Is this the Wind Whisper Forest? It's so peaceful! I don't feel any sense of slaughter or the terror of magical beasts at all."
"This is only the outer fringe, so naturally it's like this. Only once we go deeper inside will we encounter magical beasts, or the hunters who slay them to harvest magic cores! But deep inside, human hearts are treacherous. You must never casually or blindly trust anyone, understand?"
Hearing Hen Quexi's words, Leng Feng turned his head to look at her. Knowing she was acting foolish again, he hastily imparted some basic knowledge.
