Chapter 4: The Mysterious Aunt Lan – Part 1
Hen Ruochen desperately wanted to seek revenge on the Baili family for Hen Queqian. However, the Baili family had already arrived with countless treasures and spiritual medicines to offer their apologies. Furthermore, even if Hen Ruochen were to strike, the experts of the Baili family would certainly not stand by idly.
If they were to provoke the Baili family and drive them to defect to the Ye family, it would be a catastrophic disaster for the Hen clan, potentially leading to their annihilation. As a three-star Martial Spirit, Hen Ruochen had no choice but to suppress the hatred in his heart and accept the Baili family’s apology.
Yet, this decision had left Hen Queqian feeling incredibly cold toward him, causing Hen Ruochen immense heartache.
However, Hen Queqian was completely oblivious to Hen Ruochen’s sorrow and indignation. At this moment, she was deeply distressed, wondering how she could possibly get her hands on some money. She needed at least one gold coin!
After focusing her attention, she saw the "thermometer" in her mind; the lowest requirement, which was to become a one-star martial artist, was exactly one gold coin.
"One gold coin... where am I supposed to find that? I wonder if these ornaments are worth anything?" Hen Queqian was so troubled she nearly pulled her hair out in frustration.
Suddenly, her eyes lit up when she spotted the decorative vases on the bookshelf. She rushed over, took down a few, and began to fiddle with them, unable to put them down.
To Hen Queqian, the vases looked exquisite. However, she knew she had no eye for appraisal. If she took them to a pawn shop and was told they were worthless, what would she do?
"Que'er, what are you doing?" Just then, a graceful woman walked in, her gaze filled with doting affection as she looked at Hen Queqian in the room. She approached and tenderly stroked Hen Queqian’s head. "Que'er, why did you take these vases down?"
"I, I..." Truly, a single coin could stump a hero! She couldn't very well tell Auntie Lan that she wanted to pawn these vases, could she? Hen Queqian felt too embarrassed to voice such a thing.
Her face flushed red, and she stammered, her eyes darting around nervously.
"Que'er, you little one, I’ve been taking care of you since you were little! Is there really something you need to keep secret from Auntie Lan?" Auntie Lan smiled gently, playfully tapping Hen Queqian on the forehead.
"I, I... I need one gold coin!" Since she couldn't hide it, she decided to just bite the bullet. Hen Queqian held up all five fingers as she spoke to Auntie Lan.
Auntie Lan burst into laughter. "You child, you say you need one gold coin, yet you hold up five fingers! Do you want one gold coin, or five? And what do you need gold coins for?"
"If you need to recover from your injuries, the house has medicinal herbs and healing pills! If you want to cultivate, Auntie Lan has Martial Spirit stones as well!" Auntie Lan seemed determined to get to the bottom of it.
"Hehe, I only need one gold coin! Though, if Auntie Lan could give me two, that would be even better!" Hen Queqian hurriedly pulled her hand back, offering a sheepish smile while inwardly cursing herself. *Oh, hand, oh hand, why must you be so disobedient? Can't you see what number I’m actually saying?*
In truth, at that moment, her heart was screaming for as much as she could get, but she hadn't expected to make such a fool of herself.
"You still haven't told Auntie Lan why you need gold coins," Auntie Lan said, looking at her with concern, fearing that Hen Queqian might be getting bullied outside.
