Chapter 59: Ominous Glare
Hearing Lvyuo say this, I nodded.
And she continued:
"Chen Qiyue, although the salary here is high, you need to be alive to spend it. If you really want to work here, hurry up and sign this agreement."
"You can take another look at the terms of the agreement. But what I want to tell you is that life and death are up to fate. If you work yourself to death here, it will have nothing to do with us whatsoever."
With that, Lvyuo handed me the agreement that had been lying next to the white porcelain jar.
I sat down on the sofa by the mahogany table, picked up the agreement, and began to read.
The contents written on it were almost identical to what Uncle Blind Li had told me.
Calling it an agreement sounded nice, but in reality, it was nothing more than a damn indenture of servitude.
Although the salary specified on it was close to an astronomical figure, I knew that in a place like this, very few people could survive and make it through.
The duration of this agreement was three years, meaning that once signed, one was bound to work for them here for three solid years.
During these three years, leaving this place was strictly out of the question under any circumstances.
I made a rough calculation. Based on the quote I had just given Lvyuo, working here for three years would net me at least one hundred million in compensation!
No wonder so many people could not resist the temptation and chose to come to this place to work.
After all, if someone endured for three years inside and managed to come out alive, they would at least be a multi-millionaire.
Such wealth came far too easily.
That was why countless young men wanted to come here to strike it rich.
What they failed to realize, however, was that this place was not paradise; it was an abyss of hell that constantly drained the very vital essence of those within it.
I looked again at the white porcelain jar on the mahogany table. Looking at it from up close, it finally dawned on me.
What was contained in this porcelain jar was likely not a lesser ghost, but a venomous Gu poison refined by a master of Miao territory Gu arts.
Presumably, the people of this club used these Gu poisons to control those young men, forcing them to exhaust their remaining years of life in order to serve those high-ranking, powerful noblewomen.
The poor raise ghosts to acquire wealth, while the rich raise Gu to gather fortune!
Raising Gu was far more difficult than raising ghosts, but the returns it yielded were vastly different.
For the Haitailan Women's Club, spending money on such matters was probably the simplest thing of all.
They did not lack money; what they lacked were men willing to risk their lives for them.
That was what I thought up to this point.
It was evident that this Lvyuo was probably the person responsible for training newcomers using Gu poison.
Judging by her attitude toward me just now, this person was quite arrogant.
To this day, she had barely deigned to look at me.
Damn it!
This chick really thought that our Qingma Physiognomy arts had declined.
"Tsk tsk! Your Haitailan Women's Club truly has brilliant methods. Not only do you make applicants sign this indenture of servitude, but you also force them to ingest the Love Flower Gu! You certainly run quite a business!"
Since they held me in such contempt, I had to make sure they remembered me well.
Upon hearing me say this, the interviewer named Lvyuo looked slightly startled, but her expression quickly returned to normal.
"I didn't expect that I had underestimated you. You good-for-nothing actually possess such discernment. It seems that old dog Chen Tiande trained you quite well, giving you such nerve at such a young age!"
"However, I must remind you of one thing: if you want to stay at our club to take care of women, you must ingest this Love Flower Gu!"
"And what if I say no?"
I raised an eyebrow and asked coldly in return.
Struck by my retort, Lvyuo was left momentarily speechless.
Clearly, she had not expected me to speak to her in such a tone.
Yet, her emotional adjustment was swift, and she quickly devised a countermeasure.
"Chen Qiyue, for the sake of Half-Immortal Li, I can afford to show some respect to the Qingma Physiognomy arts. If you are scared and dare not ingest this Love Flower Gu, you may walk out of here."
"Come the way you came, and leave the way you entered. The two of us can part ways in peace."
Having said that, Lvyuo made a motion to summon someone to escort me out.
Yet, since I had already come, I certainly wasn't going to leave easily.
At the very least, until I found a way to lift the infant imprint on Liu Qingqing's glabella, I would never leave this place.
"What if I don't want to leave?"
Acting as if nothing was wrong, I picked up the black cloth bag I had brought with me and spoke indifferently to Lvyuo.
Hearing this, Lvyuo's expression instantly darkened.
Her tone turned cold, and she said with some displeasure:
"Chen Qiyue, what do you mean by this? Relying on Half-Immortal Li's backing to run wild in our territory? Aren't you being a bit too arrogant?"
"Also, let me tell you. You only have two choices now: either swallow this Love Flower Gu and stay here to serve the noblewomen, or get the hell out and stop wasting my time!"
Listening to Lvyuo, a flicker of genuine anger ignited within me.
Narrowing my eyes slightly, I continuously toyed with the black cloth bag in my hand and replied indifferently:
"I said I won't sign, and I won't. But whether I leave, when I leave, and how I leave—that's none of your concern. My legs belong to me, and you don't get to call the shots!"
"Chen Qiyue, are you trying to stir up trouble here? It seems you've lived long enough!"
Lvyuo's gaze instantly turned icy, and she appeared ready to make a move against me.
"Chen Qiyue, I'll advise you one last time: if you don't want to lose your life, get out of here right now. As long as you leave voluntarily, I won't make things difficult for you. But if you try to cause chaos and make trouble here, no one can protect you."
"With your half-baked feng shui mystic arts, you probably won't even be able to walk out of this room."
Lvyuo mocked me with considerable disdain. In her eyes, I had already completely become meat on her chopping block; as for when to strike and drop the blade, it simply depended on when she felt like it.
However, this Lvyuo clearly lacked sufficient understanding of me, probably assuming I was a half-baked feng shui master just because of my young age.
Understandable, truly. They had dominated this area for so many years and weathered countless storms.
Seeing me try to be evasive now, they naturally held me in utter contempt.
In their eyes, I was merely a third-rate feng shui master who could never catch their attention.
Naturally, having grown accustomed to tyranny in this place, they were bound to be somewhat blinded by arrogance.
"Who told you I was going to use mystic arts?"
With those words, I exerted force with both feet and suddenly charged forward.
Having studied Qingma Physiognomy arts with my grandfather for all these years, I hadn't just practiced feng shui mystic arts; I had also learned boxing and kicking techniques from him.
As an expert in martial arts and demon subjugation, why was Uncle Hu willing to become my grandfather's disciple? It was precisely because my grandfather's physical combat skills were the most formidable he had ever witnessed.
Having trained under my grandfather for over a decade, my own physical prowess was naturally far from mediocre.
Before Lvyuo could recover from her shock, I had already rushed directly in front of her. With my left hand, I seized both of her arms, and with my right hand, I clamped down on her throat, pinning her firmly against the wall of the room.
"Chen Qiyue, you dare lay a hand on me? You're courting death!"
Even though her body was immobilized, Lvyuo still roared at me with utter defiance.
"I am courting death, but before I die, you will definitely die first!"
I applied a tiny bit of pressure with my right hand, and Lvyuo's fair face instantly turned flushed red.
"Tell me, who ordered you to kill me? And why is there an infant imprint on the forehead of the Liu family's daughter?"
"You can choose not to say anything, but if you do, you will die!"
Real fury had been ignited within me. From the very moment Lvyuo had belittled my grandfather, I had harbored the intent to kill her.
She could mock me all she wanted, but to insult my grandfather meant she had to die!
My chilling tone seemed to make Lvyuo feel a trace of genuine fear.
She struggled desperately with all her might, trying to break free from my grip.
Yet for a young woman, escaping such a hold was virtually impossible.
"Well, well, Chen Qiyue, I really did underestimate you. But don't you think a trick like this is enough for you to barge your way out of our women's club. If I die, do you think you'll live? I advise you to back down right now. Considering your youth, I might forgive you this once."
Though terrified on the inside, Lvyuo still put up a facade of unyielding composure.
Such mental fortitude actually left me somewhat impressed.
"Lvyuo, you don't need to waste your breath on me. I'm just a rough mountain bumpkin from some remote backcountry, and I only care about getting the answers I want."
"Don't try to hoodwink me with that kind of rhetoric; I don't have time to listen to your nonsense. I'll give you one last minute. If you still refuse to talk, I will kill you!"
Having said that, a fierce glint flashed in my eyes, and the hand gripping Lvyuo's throat began to tighten once again.
