Chapter 36 Cao Cao

After finishing The Little Prince, Su Xing found herself engulfed in a strange wave of emotions. It felt as if she had journeyed through a world of childlike wonder, yet at the same time, it seemed like an indirect, subtle rebuke from Anzhi Lu.

The novel’s plain but sincere words, brimming with innocence and passion, resonated like a child’s earnest questioning directed at adults. These questions carried profound philosophical reflections, awakening her mind while simultaneously drawing her back to that pure, youthful spirit.

Unable to resist, she asked Anzhi Lu, “Do you want to be a philosopher?”

Even with her amateur appreciation skills, she recognized that The Little Prince was no longer just a fairy tale for children. It was a story meant for everyone.

But... Qianqian would definitely like it!

That was her thought.

Anzhi Lu understood what Su Xing meant. The Little Prince, written for children, was also meant for adults. Beneath its simple words lay themes and thoughts that were anything but simple.

This quality was inherent in the original work from his past life. Yet his original intention in writing this book was not so grand.

“No, that’s not it. I just wanted to create a story that Qianqian would like,” Anzhi Lu said.

Su Xing nodded, then suddenly smiled.

“Anzhi Lu, you know, when I brought Qianqian to see you before, I was prepared. If you didn’t believe me, I was ready to suggest that you and Qianqian take a DNA test.”

Her gaze swept over the sleeping Qianqian on the bed, and she spoke softly, her tone calm and serene, radiating a rare beauty.

Anzhi Lu glanced at Su Xing and asked, “Why bring this up now?”

Qianqian was restless in her sleep. While Anzhi Lu and Su Xing talked, the little one smacked her lips and turned over with such a big movement it seemed she might roll right off the bed.

Anzhi Lu was startled and quickly reached out to steady her. Unexpectedly, Su Xing mirrored his movement.

Their hands accidentally overlapped.

Her hand was so warm...

That thought flashed through Anzhi Lu’s mind.

Su Xing quickly withdrew her hand, allowing Anzhi Lu to gently reposition Qianqian in the center of the bed.

The little one was still dreaming, smiling softly twice before turning to sleep on her side again.

A faint blush colored Su Xing’s cheeks, but her expression remained composed as she answered Anzhi Lu’s question.

“I don’t really know why I brought it up now. It just suddenly came to me... probably because I just finished reading your The Little Prince.”

Anzhi Lu remained silent.

Su Xing continued, “When I brought Qianqian to see you that time, I was very nervous. I didn’t know what kind of person you were, or whether you would recognize this child. It would have been better if you didn’t even recognize her. I even wondered if you might be... you know...”

Anzhi Lu finished the sentence for her, “A jerk? A bastard?”

“Yeah...” Su Xing nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed to meet his gaze, so she looked away.

“If that were the case, and you had any bad intentions—like learning about who I am and using that to threaten us mother and daughter—I don’t know what would become of us, all alone like orphans.”

Anzhi Lu said, “Then why did you still come to see me that day?”

Su Xing replied, “I called you first and chatted on the phone to get a rough sense of you, and I felt you probably weren’t that kind of person. Plus, I had a friend secretly following us. If anything went wrong, she was ready to call the police and come to help.”

“You really risked a lot...” Anzhi Lu sighed. This woman certainly wasn’t an easy person.

Su Xing smiled, a lightness and relief in her expression.

“I had no choice. Qianqian has always wanted a father and talked about him constantly. She’s still small now, so it’s okay. But I can’t let this go on forever. When she grows up and understands more, if there’s still no father around, I’m afraid it will affect her mentally.”

Anzhi Lu smiled. “Luckily, I’m not a bad person.”

Su Xing gave him a playful eye-roll, smiling brightly. “Yes, luckily you’re not a bad person!”

She went on, “But whether you were bad or not, a woman suddenly showing up with a little girl and telling a man this is his two-year-old daughter—most people wouldn’t believe it. So I had already thought about suggesting a DNA test if you didn’t want to accept it.”

“But I didn’t expect you to accept it so easily. I always had some doubts, it didn’t feel real. It wasn’t until I just finished reading The Little Prince that I understood. You must have kept your trust in people, your childhood innocence and honesty—that’s why you believed me so easily, right?”

Anzhi Lu felt a bit embarrassed by Su Xing’s words. “Have you ever thought that maybe I just accepted it because a big star like you came all the way to find me? No matter what, I wouldn’t lose out.”

Su Xing’s face darkened.

Anzhi Lu had wanted to joke, “Do you know there was a man named Cao Cao in the Three Kingdoms period?” but seeing her expression, he dared not say it.

Su Xing said, “I almost forgot—you didn’t just write The Little Prince, you also wrote Dragon Clan, Sacred Legend, and Monkey King. Everyone calls you the ‘Dog Author’!”

“Haha... haha...” Anzhi Lu forced a laugh.

He explained, “No hidden meaning. It’s just that Qianqian looks so much like me, and the timing fits. Plus, you’re a wealthy, well-known star bringing your daughter to see me, a waiter from three years ago—what could you possibly want? There’s no way you’d lie to me.”

Su Xing nodded. “Anyway, thank you for trusting me.”

Anzhi Lu said, “And thank you for bringing Qianqian to see me. Otherwise, I wouldn’t even know I have such a lovely daughter in this world.”

He had spent three years writing and traveling, doing things he loved and dreaming his dreams—very comfortable. Yet he came from another world, and here he was an orphan, alone without family, always feeling a subtle distance.

Until Su Xing appeared with Qianqian before him, he never had an anchor.

Suddenly, this world felt warm and familiar.

“Where’s your friend?” Anzhi Lu asked.

“She already left,” Su Xing replied. She told him, “She’s the friend I mentioned before who helped me get the singing appointment with Zhou Bo. She came to talk to me about that gig, so I asked her to help with this matter as well. After she finished, she left.”

Anzhi Lu said, “Your friends are pretty good.”

Song Xiaoqin was, and so was this friend.

Su Xing nodded. “Yes.”
