Chapter 51: The Flower Festival Arrives (2)
"Eldest Sister, we need to set off."
Looking at Lin Chuyi, who was fussing over something unknown, Lin Jiuyue was extremely anxious. At this hour, if they still did not leave, they would likely be late.
Lin Chuyi waved her hand, gesturing for her to remain calm, and continued to pull out red cloth pouches from a wooden chest one by one, stuffing them into a large red cloth bag slung across her waist. Until the bag could hold no more, she finally looked up with a beaming smile.
"Jiuyue, come here."
Though puzzled, Lin Jiuyue walked over anyway. The moment she saw what was revealed at the bottom of the chest, her face instantly flushed red.
"Eldest Sister, isn't this... a bit inappropriate?" Lin Jiuyue uncomfortably hugged the bag that had been forcefully shoved into her arms, wishing she could just throw it back into the chest.
Based on her understanding of her eldest sister, these items were undoubtedly meant to be sold to the young women. But those were all unmarried young ladies of good families; how could they possibly buy such things?
Lin Chuyi was busy packing the remaining items into her own bag. Hearing this, she cast a disdainful glance at Lin Jiuyue and said, "What's inappropriate about it? They'll be thanking us later. In a few months, you'll be turning fourteen. How can you still be so embarrassed by this? How will you ever get married and have babies in the future?"
The more Lin Jiuyue listened, the redder her face became, until she was stamping her feet in mortification. She simply could not understand how her eldest sister had managed to steer the conversation to this topic.
"Alright, let's go." Dropping the final pouch in, Lin Chuyi clapped her hands with a smile and pulled Lin Jiuyue out the door.
Quite a few people were standing outside at the moment. Lin Jiuyue quickly clutched the cloth bag tightly to keep others from seeing it, though in truth, it was merely psychological comfort—the items were securely tucked inside small cloth pouches, so how could anyone possibly see them?
Lin Qiyue, who had been waiting outside for a long time, caught sight of the two and hurried to urge them, "You're finally out! If you hadn't come out any sooner, we would have missed the hour."
Mo Yu had also been waiting outside the door alongside Lin Qiyue. A flash of bedazzled admiration crossed his face the moment he saw Lin Chuyi.
Lin Chuyi's attire today was much more formal. A simple fishtail braid was woven down the back of her head, with an exquisite hairpin pinned right where the strands crossed. Her waist-length, silky hair cascaded smoothly down her back; this simple yet delicate hairstyle lent her a gentle and sweet aura.
The most striking feature, however, was her vibrant red dress. Beneath the red outer garment was a pink inner lining, and an exquisite golden belt accentuated her slender, willow-like waist.
Furthermore, the crimson dress made her complexion appear even more rosy, radiant, and graceful.
Mo Yu could not help chuckling softly. "Dressed like this, Yiyi, anyone who doesn't know you might mistake you for a bride on her wedding day."
Hearing this, Lin Chuyi turned her head to look. Mo Yu was dressed in a robe of deep purple today. Mysterious, noble, and with a bewitching face as handsome as ever, she found herself momentarily dazed, staring at him.
"Eldest Sister." Lin Jiuyue poked Lin Chuyi's arm, signaling her to snap out of it.
Lin Chuyi abruptly recovered her senses and jerked her head away. Honestly, what was the point of growing up looking this enchanting?! Not only was he drop-dead gorgeous, but he also went around tempting people.
The corners of Mo Yu's lips curved upward; clearly, Lin Chuyi's reaction greatly pleased him.
"Oh dear, young masters and misses, we truly cannot delay any longer. Any further delay and we'll miss the auspicious hour!"
Seeing that the four of them were still not moving, the elderly housekeeper who had been waiting anxiously on the side finally grew frantic. This was the grand festival held once every three years; the timing was absolutely not to be missed.
Because the Lin residence served as the host for every Flora Festival, as well as the starting and ending point of this competition, the heavy responsibility of greeting and escorting the participants naturally fell upon them.
