Chapter 43: Liars Are Not Pretty
Lin Chuyi’s face flushed as well. Unable to help herself, she patted the little boy on the head. “That isn’t what I meant!”
The little boy immediately felt deceived. Pouting, he said aggrievedly, “But that’s exactly what you just said.”
Sweat beaded on Lin Chuyi’s forehead. Seeing Mo Yu watching her with an amused smile, she suddenly felt too ashamed to face anyone.
That little traitor! It would have been fine if he had kept it to himself. Why did he have to say it aloud?
Unfortunately, the boy was completely unaware of her distress. When Lin Chuyi stopped paying attention to him, he felt even more wronged.
Blinking his large eyes, he turned to Mo Yu. “Big Brother, Eldest Sister isn’t pretty at all.”
Mo Yu smiled and pinched his little hand. “Didn’t you just say that Eldest Sister was very pretty?”
Lin Wuyue gave a huff, making it clear that he was extremely displeased.
“That’s because Eldest Sister lied. Father said that people who lie aren’t pretty.”
Mo Yu glanced at Lin Chuyi, who was practically trying to bury her head in her bowl, and could not help chuckling.
Hearing his laughter, Lin Chuyi was on the verge of tears. You little traitor—why do you have to tell him everything? Now it’s all over. My intentions have been completely exposed, and it seems my silver is as good as gone.
Lin Chuyi was utterly heartbroken. She could almost see the silver that had reached her purse sprout wings and fly away again.
Because of Lin Wuyue’s innocent lack of restraint, the meal finally fell silent, and everyone truly adopted the rule of not speaking while eating.
The servants who had finished earlier also quietly picked up their bowls and chopsticks and withdrew in orderly fashion.
Lin Zhixiang ate this meal in a state of constant unease. Every time he saw little Lin Wuyue ask Mo Yu to serve him food, he wished with all his heart that he were both deaf and blind.
Given Mo Yu’s status, when had he ever served anyone else?
Fortunately, it was only breakfast, and no one could eat very much. Before long, one after another, they set down their chopsticks.
The moment they did so, the main gate began to boom loudly. A short while later, shouting could be heard outside.
“Chuyi! I’ve brought Doctor Li to examine your injuries. Don’t be afraid!”
Just from the voice, it was obvious who had arrived. Lin Chuyi let out a helpless sigh. As expected, he was a complete simpleton.
Seeing the two men approaching from a distance, Mo Yu could not help smiling. “Don’t worry, Chuyi. I’ll cover all the expenses.”
Knowing that he was referring to the injury on her backside, Lin Chuyi’s cheeks flushed. “Brother Mo, please stop teasing me.”
Looking at her slightly embarrassed face, the corners of Mo Yu’s lips curved upward. Apparently, he found the sight of the little girl blushing quite amusing.
Big Fool and Doctor Li soon reached them. The moment Big Fool saw Lin Chuyi, he rushed toward her.
But he still remembered that men and women should keep their distance, and stopped half a meter away.
When he noticed Lin Zhixiang still standing nearby, he hurriedly turned to greet him. Though anxious, he did not dare neglect proper etiquette.
Doctor Li smiled at Lin Zhixiang. “Lord Lin.”
Lin Zhixiang nodded. “Doctor Li.”
After the two men had exchanged greetings, Big Fool could wait no longer. He anxiously tugged at Doctor Li. “Doctor Li, hurry and examine Chuyi! She was beaten terribly just now!”
Hearing this, Doctor Li turned to look at Lin Chuyi. He had already noticed upon entering that the girl was not injured at all.
Honestly, when he had heard this fool claim that Chuyi had been beaten unconscious, he had been frightened half to death.
Lin Chuyi rubbed her nose. “Doctor Li, I’m fine. Please examine Brother Mo instead.”
