Chapter 21: May I Call You Brother Mo?
Lin Qiyue instinctively took the roast chicken offered to him. He touched it and found, as expected, that it was no longer scalding.
He looked at Mo Yu, then at the chicken in his hand, before tearing off a drumstick and handing it over. He then stared at Mo Yu with eyes shining bright—the very same look he had worn earlier when Lin Chuyi mentioned silver.
Mo Yu’s mouth twitched. He silently accepted the drumstick, but Lin Qiyue’s gaze made him feel helpless. How did he feel as if he were being targeted again?
Looking at the greasy drumstick in his hand, Mo Yu sighed soundlessly and retrieved several silk handkerchiefs from the cloth bag at his side.
"I..."
The words died on his lips. Mo Yu stared in disbelief at Lin Chuyi, who was devouring her meal with gusto.
Noticing his gaze, Lin Qiyue gave an embarrassed smile. "Don't mind her; that’s just how she is."
Mo Yu raised an eyebrow. "It is no matter. A young lady of the pugilistic world like Miss Lin, eating in such an unconstrained and spirited manner, is truly authentic. Compared to her, I appear rather affected."
Despite his words, Mo Yu did not put down the handkerchief in his hand.
Lin Chuyi looked up, swallowed the meat in her mouth, and nodded vigorously in agreement. "Exactly, exactly! We wanderers of the martial world should be unconstrained—eating big chunks of meat and drinking deep draughts of wine!"
A glimmer of amusement flashed in Mo Yu’s eyes. "Miss is quite right." With that, he began to eat with extreme elegance, finding it difficult to bear watching Lin Chuyi’s current state.
It must be said that Lin Qiyue’s cooking skills were truly excellent; though it looked greasy, it tasted nothing like that at all.
Lin Qiyue pressed a hand to his forehead. She had clearly misunderstood his point. "Just eat your food."
Lin Chuyi huffed, fell silent, and went back to gnawing on her delicious drumstick. After polishing off another large piece of meat, she finally felt overstuffed.
"Wipe your face, it's covered in grease," Lin Qiyue said, helplessly pulling out a handkerchief to hand to her.
Lin Chuyi huffed again but didn't take it. "I’m uncomfortable." She rubbed her belly, her small face twisted in a look of pained struggle.
Watching her, Lin Qiyue felt the urge to roll his eyes. Who told you to eat so much?
Seeing this scene, Mo Yu’s brow arched once more. The way he looked at Lin Chuyi now had shifted slightly.
"Lie down and rest for a while."
In the end, Lin Qiyue sighed, lowered his head, and wiped the grease from Lin Chuyi’s face himself.
"I’m certain Father and Mother remembered it wrong. I must actually be the older brother."
Lin Chuyi gave him a lazy glance. Because she was so full, she uncharacteristically refrained from bickering with him.
Seeing her uncommonly docile state, Lin Qiyue said no more. He turned to look at Mo Yu and felt a wave of shame upon seeing him still meticulously eating his drumstick.
Of course, this shame wasn't directed at Mo Yu, but at Lin Chuyi. Look at how refined his manners were; for a girl to eat the way she did was truly unseemly.
When they returned, he would definitely have their father hire a tutor to teach her etiquette.
Thinking of the martial prowess Mo Yu had displayed earlier, a sense of longing stirred in Lin Qiyue. "May I call you Brother Mo?"
Mo Yu was slightly taken aback, then nodded with a smile.
"Really? Then, could you teach me martial arts?" Lin Qiyue asked, dancing with excitement.
Almost every young man harbored a dream of being a hero, and he was no exception. Having lived in this small town for seventeen years since birth, he had long been filled with curiosity and yearning for the world beyond.
Mo Yu smiled, tossed the chicken bone into the fire, and wiped his hands with measured grace. "Why is it that you want to learn martial arts?"
