Chapter 3: Oh no, they are angry.
Page 1/3
Zhao Zhanlei was a bit overwhelmed with gratitude. “Wow, thank you, Brother Xing.” Although he had just eaten breakfast, he still politely opened the bag and took out an egg to eat.
Fu Shuxing said, “No need to thank me, it’s Ji—”
Before the word “Xun” could even fall, a sudden gust of wind swept past!
Ji Xun swore to himself:
He had never run this fast even during physical training!
Just as Zhao Zhanlei was about to shove the egg into his mouth, Ji Xun’s eyes widened. In the nick of time, he caught Zhao Zhanlei’s hand mid-air, stopping him from eating the egg.
“Shitou, Shitou Shitou, I need to tell you something.” Slinging an arm around Zhao Zhanlei’s neck, he briskly led him toward the sanctuary entrance.
Fu Shuxing was left standing in place.
He watched as Ji Xun enthusiastically grabbed Zhao Zhanlei, then, unfazed by anyone around, walked arm in arm with him toward the sanctuary gates.
Zhao Zhanlei was tall, yet he leaned into Ji Xun, who was shorter, their bodies pressed close.
The sanctuary was protected by a high-level barrier.
Fu Shuxing, unable to use his sentinel’s keen senses to overhear their conversation, could only see Ji Xun’s smile blossoming like a flower.
He pursed his thin lips tightly, watching the two walk away arm in arm, feeling the pressure around him drop.
Had they really not seen each other for years?
Seeing each other every day, why did they have to speak like that?
But soon, Fu Shuxing suppressed all his restless emotions.
It was fine.
This was just fine.
Wasn’t this exactly what he wanted to see?
Thinking so, Fu Shuxing scoffed lightly and slipped his hands into his pockets.
The jacket pocket still held the residual warmth from the two boiled eggs he had put in earlier, though the eggs were gone.
He expressionlessly withdrew his hands and strode into the sanctuary.
Meanwhile, Zhao Zhanlei, “held hostage” by Ji Xun up front, widened his eyes in disbelief at what he had just heard.
Ji Xun had sprinted over like a hundred-meter dash runner, so frantic, and he thought it was something serious—only to find out it was all just to snatch an egg?
Even if it was cooked by hand.
It was still just an egg, not some golden or silver egg, was it?
Brothers for twelve years—was it really worth getting so worked up over an egg?
He was utterly confused.
“They’re stingy eggs. Just two of them. Brother Xing can eat them, why can’t I?” Zhao Zhanlei asked.
Ji Xun said, “You absolutely cannot! Give them back!”
He reached out to snatch them again as he spoke!
Zhao Zhanlei hadn’t really wanted to eat the egg at first, but seeing Ji Xun like this, he felt really defiant. Holding the eggs away so Ji Xun couldn’t reach, he said, “Why can’t I? Give me a reason.”
Ji Xun was desperate, thinking, “Do you actually want to eat the egg I used to reduce the swelling around my eyes? No, you don’t want that! It’s the ‘revenge egg’ I made for Fu Shuxing—only he’s allowed to eat it!”
But he couldn’t say that.
So Ji Xun could only say stubbornly, “No reason! You just can’t!”
Zhao Zhanlei laughed in anger, “Besides, Brother Xing gave these to me. So what if you cooked them? You didn’t give them to me, how can you take them back from me? What kind of logic is that?”
Ji Xun: “I don’t care!”
“I care whether you care or not. If you want them, ask Fu Shuxing for them!”
“Shitou!!!”

“Stop shouting in my ear.” Zhao Zhanlei tilted his head to the side.
Seeing Zhao Zhanlei like this, Ji Xun was both anxious and angry. He didn’t understand why this guy was suddenly so difficult today. Catching a glimpse of Fu Shuxing who had caught up, he feared being seen as acting strange and reluctantly withdrew his hand.
Forget it.
He nervously thought to himself: Eating something a little unclean won’t hurt. At worst… if Zhao Zhanlei gets an upset stomach, I’ll just buy some medicine.
Seeing Ji Xun no longer making a fuss, Zhao Zhanlei lightly bumped his shoulder. “What’s wrong? Are you mad?”
Ji Xun didn’t respond.
Zhao Zhanlei returned the eggs to him. “Alright, just teasing you. I’ve already eaten breakfast, so even if I wanted to eat now, I couldn’t. Here, take them back. Give them to Brother Xing.”
Ji Xun refused to take them.
“Take it.” Zhao Zhanlei put the bag into his hand.
The next second, Ji Xun strode over to the trash can, stepped on the lid, and tossed the eggs inside!
The whole motion was smooth and natural.
Zhao Zhanlei was dumbfounded.
Even Fu Shuxing, who had just arrived, was slightly stunned.
Ji Xun threw the eggs away, didn’t look at anyone, and walked quickly toward the guidance classroom alone!
“It’s over.”
Zhao Zhanlei looked at Fu Shuxing. “He’s mad.”
Fu Shuxing’s thin lips moved slightly. Watching Ji Xun’s quickly receding figure and then the trash can, he said, “Spoiled temper, don’t indulge him.”
Looking back at Ji Xun.
Angry?
No, no, no—he was beyond relieved!
Luckily, the evidence was destroyed in time. Otherwise, he couldn’t imagine how things would have developed once Fu Shuxing got involved!
Fu Shuxing was so clever; he’d definitely figure out something was wrong with those two eggs fast.
Then he’d tear me apart…
Phew! Thank goodness!
Surviving a disaster means good fortune will follow!
Entering the guidance classroom felt like stepping into a zoo.
Flying in the air, swimming in the water, running on the ground—there were all kinds of juvenile spirit creatures, especially adorable.
Tutor Tina forbade students from summoning spirit creatures at will.
At this age, they still barely knew how to use their spiritual power; the spirit creatures were in their naïve cub stage. Once a spirit creature went out of control, twelve- or thirteen-year-old kids found it hard to manage alone.
But teenagers who could control them would be exceptional.
So everyone took the chance to let their spirit creatures out to play when Tina was not around.
“Comrade Ji Xun, good morning!”
“Good morning, Comrade Qian Peng.”
“Good morning, little Xun~~”
“Morning, Xiao Zhi.”
Ji Xun greeted them while returning to his seat, placing his backpack on the desk, unzipping it to get his book.
At that moment, two soft chirps came from the front.
He looked up in surprise.
The two girls sitting in front of Ji Xun had spirit creatures; one was a little yellow oriole. Yesterday at noon, the oriole had been chased out the window by Qian Peng’s big tabby spirit creature. When it flew back later, one of its claws was broken.
At that time, Zhou Xiaoyun had been holding the oriole and crying terribly. It was Tutor Tina who had taken her for treatment.
They had been gone the entire afternoon and hadn’t returned since.
Ji Xun thought the situation must be serious, after all, it was a broken leg and a young bird.
Page 3/3
But seeing the little yellow bird hopping lively on the desk, he was amazed: the broken claw had healed so quickly?
Suddenly, he felt a newfound admiration for Tutor Tina.
“Tina’s spirit creature seems to be a phoenix, super beautiful~”
“A phoenix?” Zhu Liying, holding her little hamster, was surprised. “No way, isn’t that a mythical creature? Can there really be such a spirit creature in reality?”
“I don’t think I’m mistaken. Red feathers, long tail feathers, two long claws—I checked on my mom’s account on the Wisdom Net, and it matches a phoenix exactly.” Zhou Xiaoyun looked at the lively little yellow oriole, remembering how it had limped unsteadily with blood yesterday and shuddered. Then she recalled the flash of a big red bird in the treatment pod and whispered, “They say spirit creatures are closely related to the animals we interact with most frequently.”
“?” Zhu Liying whispered back, “That makes it even less likely. How could Tina have contact with a phoenix that doesn’t exist in reality?”
“That’s where you don’t understand. ‘Contact’ can be physical touch but isn’t limited to it. It can also come through extensive reading and research. Spirit creatures are high-dimensional beings, not bound by space and time. So they can be born from our imagination.”
“But the book says spirit creatures are direct manifestations of the awakened ones’ personalities.”
“The book was written ages ago by stuffy old folks. The info online updates way faster! I’m telling you, search for ‘Spirit Creature Home Forum’ on Wisdom Net and you’ll see. Inside, they say…”
Just then, Ji Xun, who was eavesdropping intently, suddenly felt his knee being pawed!
He jumped in surprise.
Looking down, he saw a little leopard.
The little leopard was about the size of a grown house cat. Standing on its hind legs, its two forepaws pressed on his knee. Seeing Ji Xun looking down at it, it meowed softly, its glossy black eyes and round head looking innocent but mischievous as it pawed at his knee twice.
Ji Xun couldn’t help smiling and whispered, “Be careful not to shred my pants.”
The little leopard didn’t understand and looked to its owner for help.
Ji Xun looked up, unsurprised to see Zhao Zhanlei walking toward him.
Zhao Zhanlei said, “Come here, Jason.”
The little leopard immediately ran to Zhao Zhanlei, enthusiastically circling his owner twice.
The guidance classroom suddenly fell much quieter, everyone curiously and gossipingly watching Ji Xun’s direction.
The guide and sentinel classrooms were on opposite banks of the Reverse River inside the sanctuary.
Normally, except during joint communication classes, sentinels rarely came over to this side.
Except—Ji Xun’s two childhood friends.
One was the sentinel Zhao Zhanlei, owner of the little leopard spirit creature.
The other.
Now that one had a far greater reputation! Tall, handsome, physically strong, first in solo combat, top pilot in flight simulation, and leading in all other sentinel assessments—a sentinel known throughout the sanctuary: Fu Shuxing!
It was said that Fu Shuxing’s spirit creature was a nearly adult Bengal white tiger.
Super majestic! Super fierce!
But because all spirit creatures in the sanctuary were still young, and the tiger was the king of beasts, if the white tiger ever appeared, no other little spirit creatures would stand a chance; they might all go into hiding, or worse, be so scared they’d develop psychological trauma. That would be a huge problem!
So from enrollment, Fu Shuxing had been strictly prohibited by high military officials from releasing his spirit creature casually.
As a result, six months had passed without anyone seeing that white tiger.
But because of this, the name “Fu Shuxing” had become more legendary and impressive in the sanctuary, naturally attracting more attention and admirers.
No guide in the sanctuary didn’t feel curious or admire him.
Ji Xun’s two childhood friends often came together.
So after everyone glanced at Zhao Zhanlei, they all turned their heads toward the classroom door, anxiously awaiting Fu Shuxing’s arrival…
Zhao Zhanlei lifted the little leopard by the scruff of its neck.
The little leopard immediately stopped moving.
Zhao Zhanlei walked to Ji Xun’s desk and placed the little leopard on top. “We’re flying fighter jets this morning. It’ll keep you company for two classes.”
Ji Xun looked at the little leopard.
The little leopard had already settled comfortably on the desk, licking its paws, occasionally glancing at Ji Xun. Its round ears and face, with two “tear marks,” made it look pitiful yet adorably soft and cute.
