Chapter 8: The Thief Who Stole from Qin Feng, and the Incited Villagers!
Stealing? Qin Feng was stunned.
No wonder his so-called second aunt was acting so secretive and dared to come to his door so openly.
She must have thought she had uncovered some great secret.
She intended to use this to threaten Qin Feng and get a share for herself.
“A share for you?” Qin Feng spoke, a cold smile appearing on his face.
“That’s right. As long as you give me half, I definitely won’t expose this matter.”
“And I’ll also speak up for your grandmother, so the family will continue supporting you just like before.”
Sun Xiao’e was willing to use any lie to deceive Qin Feng just to get a slice of the pie.
Now, saying some sweet words wouldn’t cost her anything. Once she got the goods and money, she would have full control over this little brat.
Qin Feng had finally rid himself of these bloodsucking relatives—there was no way he would fall for such a trick again.
This second aunt probably still thought he was the old Qin Feng, easily manipulated by a few words.
“What if I don’t give it to you? What will you do then?” Qin Feng’s smile vanished.
“Don’t give it?” Sun Xiao’e hadn’t expected Qin Feng to answer so boldly. Her expression instantly shifted from calm to vicious.
“If you don’t give it, I’ll report you to the village!”
“Stealing grain from the team to sell secretly—you know what the consequences will be? Think carefully!”
“I’m telling you, little brat! Don’t be ungrateful. When the time comes, you won’t even be able to cry!”
Sun Xiao’e was confident she had Qin Feng cornered, completely unafraid he wouldn’t comply.
Seeing Qin Feng silent, seemingly pondering, she casually grabbed a freshly steamed bun nearby.
“These buns look pretty good. I’ll try a few first; you can think it over slowly.”
Sun Xiao’e sneered disdainfully, stuffing buns into her mouth.
Although she usually mistreated Qin Feng’s family, benefiting a lot from the old lady, these lard-soaked buns were a rare delicacy she hadn’t tasted in years.
She planned to sample a few first, then once Qin Feng complied, she would take all the buns back home.
Sun Xiao’e was delighted with her scheme.
At that moment, just as she raised a bun to her mouth, her hand was suddenly grabbed.
“I really underestimated how shameless you are!” Qin Feng’s face was cold, his expression filled with disgust.
Qin Feng dodged the bun Sun Xiao’e was about to eat and grabbed her arm, forcefully throwing her far away.
“Get lost!” he shouted fiercely.
Sun Xiao’e was stunned, thrown far back, sitting on the ground in a daze.
“You… you… you little brat! How dare you lay hands on me!” she screamed sharply.
“One more insult and see what happens!” Qin Feng retorted.
“Running into our house in broad daylight to snatch things, even if I beat you to death, no one in the village would say a word!” Qin Feng snapped back.
Standing nearby, Liuzi also rose angrily, glaring at Sun Xiao’e.
It was as if at Qin Feng’s command, he would rush forward to beat this shameless woman.
Dong Qiufen hurried over from the stove, grabbing Qin Feng’s hand, fearing he would act impulsively.
“Xiaofeng, don’t be rash. It’s not worth losing your temper with someone like her.”
Of course, Qin Feng had no intention of really beating Sun Xiao’e; that might complicate things even though he was in the right.
After all, his selling pine nuts in the county was done with the village’s approval, so he wasn’t afraid of Sun Xiao’e’s tantrums.
If she really called the team leader and village chief, that would be the perfect time to retaliate.
“Just wait! You thieving bastard! I’ll expose everything about you!”
“I’ll report you to the team and the village! Just wait to be arrested and thrown in jail!!”
Sun Xiao’e, seeing negotiations break down, shamelessly tore off her mask, got up, cursed loudly, and stormed off to the village committee to complain.
Dong Qiufen was worried but was stopped by Qin Feng, who smiled lightly, implying it was fine to let her go.
She would make a fool of herself soon enough.
Qin Feng had Dong Qiufen bring all the steamed buns inside, packed more than ten into bags for Liuzi to take.
“Take these back for your grandmother. No excuses!” Qin Feng shoved the buns into Liuzi’s hands, his tone commanding.
“Oh, I’m here to bring you something, but now I’m taking some back. Grandma will scold me again at home.” Liuzi scratched his head, unsure what to do.
But since going into the mountains with Qin Feng, he obeyed his words without question.
Even if scolded, he took the buns obediently, though his eyes were anxious.
Qin Feng noticed Liuzi’s worry—it was about Sun Xiao’e reporting to the village committee and the trouble that might follow.
“Don’t worry. Selling goods in the county is authorized by the village committee’s certificate. No matter what trouble she stirs, it will only prove our innocence. First, take the buns to your grandmother, then go to your uncle’s house and ask him to come here.”
Liuzi nodded in agreement.
He had wondered in the forest why Qin Feng shared the goods with the team.
Now he realized that without sharing, if accused, even if not stealing, secretly selling forest products would land him in jail.
Liuzi’s respect for Qin Feng grew; it was best to follow the grandmother’s advice and work well with Qin Feng.
Sun Xiao’e, after leaving Qin Feng’s house, headed straight to the village committee.
She cried loudly as she walked, shouting through the village, “This is unfair! That little brat steals and hits people! Life is unbearable!”
Her act of grievance resembled Zhao Xiulian’s perfectly—no wonder they were a notorious pair of mother-in-law and daughter-in-law.
Neighbors and villagers at the gate, hearing the commotion, widened their eyes to enjoy the show.
Some nosy villagers even approached to chat.
But since most knew Sun Xiao’e’s character, their questions were mostly teasing.
“What’s wrong with the Da Nian family? Why are you crying so pitifully?”
“Did your man steal from someone? Are you coming to the village committee to divorce?”
Laughter erupted among the onlookers.
Hearing the whispers, Sun Xiao’e stopped her performance, dropping the pitiful expression and returning to her usual fierce demeanor.
“My cowardly man steal from someone? Watch me break his third leg!”
“I’m telling you, it’s that little bastard Qin Feng, raised by our poor old Dong Qiufen!”
When Sun Xiao’e changed the story, linking it to the recently estranged Qin Feng family, the villagers crowded closer.
“What happened to Qin Feng? What did he steal? Aunt, don’t keep us in suspense, tell us!”
Seeing their interest, Sun Xiao’e sneered inwardly.
Once everyone knew Qin Feng had stolen from the village, he was done for.
“I saw him yesterday with the village chief’s eldest nephew, Zhao Chunliu.”
“They were carrying two big bags heading to the county. Guess what was inside?”
Sun Xiao’e teased to attract more villagers.
“Stop teasing, Aunt, just tell us!” The villagers pressed closer, curiosity mounting.
“The bags were filled with golden pine nuts!” Sun Xiao’e revealed triumphantly.
As soon as she spoke, the gathered villagers erupted in uproar!
