Chapter 63: Chu Youyou's Frustration
She once suspected that Yunzhu was a time-traveler just like herself.
No matter how she tried to probe Yunzhu, however, the other woman refused to take the bait, instead looking back at her with a gaze full of mockery, as if looking at an absolute idiot.
Chu Youyou felt a stifled, burning rage in her chest, as uncomfortable as having eaten a spicy Chongqing hot pot without a single bottle of iced beer to wash it down.
She stood there not far away, her face dark as she watched Yunzhu teaching the tribe's females how to stew food in a stone pot—specifically, stewed chicken with mushrooms.
In this beastman world, wild chickens were not called wild chickens, but gugu chickens, and they were several times larger than ordinary wild chickens.
None of the indigenous people here had ever eaten them before because they thought the meat was too scarce.
She had wanted to catch one and stew it herself back then, but unfortunately, she wasn't as fast as Yunzhu.
"This Yunzhu is definitely a time-traveler. I just don't know if she traveled from the modern era or from some backward ancient times."
Chu Youyou thought to herself, her gloomy gaze fixed in Yunzhu's direction.
If she had traveled from a backward ancient era, then she herself would still hold some advantage.
But if Yunzhu, like her, had come from the modern world, then her own advantages would be completely wiped out.
Little did she know that Yunzhu was not a time-traveler at all, but someone who had been reborn.
All the knowledge Yunzhu possessed was what Chu Youyou herself had popularized in the beastman world during her previous life.
"This damned female, as if she knew everything in advance, always beats me to the punch and goes out of her way to oppose me. Yet for some reason, it's not so easy for me to cause trouble for her."
Chu Youyou gnashed her teeth, her expression growing even darker.
Deciding not to watch any longer lest she anger herself to death, she turned to leave.
Just as she turned around, however, she saw Muhan walking toward her.
He had a piece of animal skin wrapped around his waist, leaving his toned upper body bare with smooth, powerful muscle lines. The sunlight striking his honey-colored skin made him look as though he had been coated in a layer of gold.
"Youyou, what are you standing here looking at?"
Muhan's voice was low and magnetic, making Chu Youyou's heart skip a beat.
She looked up at Muhan, a flash of dazzled admiration in her eyes.
This man possessed the absolute top-tier appearance and physique of anyone she had ever laid eyes on.
"Muhan, you're back from hunting. I was just watching Yunzhu teach everyone how to stew gugu chicken."
She tried to make her voice sound natural and calm, though a faint blush bloomed across her cheeks.
In her previous life, she had been just an ordinary girl—when would she ever have had the chance to get close to such a stunningly handsome man?
"Mm, I just got back. When I saw you weren't in the cave, I came out to look for you."
Muhan looked at her, offering a low chuckle as he explained.
His gaze, however, inadvertently swept past Yunzhu—who was still busy teaching the females how to stew the chicken with mushrooms—and his expression turned somewhat complicated.
Yunchu had changed drastically of late; not only had she become clever and capable, but she was also no longer as infatuated with him as she used to be.
She no longer intentionally or unintentionally approached him to say things like wanting him to be her beastman husband or wanting to mate with him.
He didn't like Yunzhu, so her change should have been a good thing for him, yet deep down he couldn't shake a lingering sense of unease.
As for what was causing that unease, he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
It just went to show that men were inherently base creatures at heart.
When someone liked you, you looked down on them and found fault with everything they did. But the moment they gave up on you, you felt resentful inside.
Chu Youyou was an exceptionally sensitive person and naturally noticed Muhan glancing at Yunzhu, causing alarm bells to ring wildly in her head.
Outwardly, however, she kept her composure and asked probingly, "Muhan, what do you think of Yunzhu?"
She had heard the females of the tribe say that Yunzhu used to be deeply fond of Muhan and had even declared that she wanted Muhan to be her beastman husband.
Only to be rejected by Muhan himself.
Muhan withdrew his gaze, looked back at her, and replied with a somewhat complicated expression, "She has changed a great deal recently."
A slight discomfort stirred in Chu Youyou's chest, but she smiled and said, "Is that so? I wouldn't know what Yunzhu was like before, but all the females in the tribe say she's a different person. I suppose the Beast God must have blessed her, making her so clever and capable."
Muhan did not speak, silently defaulting to this explanation.
Seeing him stay silent, Chu Youyou felt even more unsettled and couldn't help asking, "Then who do you think is more outstanding between the two of us?"
She wanted to know, in the eyes of a beastman like Muhan, who truly shone brighter—herself or Yunzhu.
Realizing at once that she was feeling jealous, Muhan let out an amused chuckle, shook his head, and gently pulled her into his arms. "How could she ever compare to you? In my heart, you are the most special and the most outstanding."
Hearing these words, the displeasure in Chu Youyou's heart instantly vanished like smoke.
She looked up at Muhan, asking, "Really? Do you truly think I'm better than Yunzhu?"
"Naturally it's true. When have I ever lied to you?" 1
Muhan looked down at her with doting eyes.
And indeed, that was genuinely what he thought. No matter how much Yunzhu changed, in his heart she could never compare to Chu Youyou.
Chu Youyou was one-of-a-kind to him, possessing a very unique temperament completely different from the females of the tribe, which deeply captivated him.
Deep down, he felt as though he had struck gold.
If Su Xiyue knew what he was thinking right then, she surely would have remarked: You really did strike gold, didn't you?
If not for her intervention, you'd probably still be fighting tooth and nail against Yeling, Molian, Qingzhu, Baiqi, and Xuanming, enduring a fierce competition just to barely qualify as one of Chu Youyou's beastman husbands.
Unlike now, where you basically picked her up halfway and brought her home, making off like a massive bandit.
Chu Youyou had no idea what was running through his mind. Hearing his sweet words, she felt a wave of sweetness wash over her and shot him a playful, spoiled glare. "You just know how to say nice things to coax me."
"How am I coaxing you? Everything I said is true."
Muhan chuckled softly, and completely disregarding the crowd around them, he leaned down and planted a fiery, passionate kiss right on her lips.
It left Chu Youyou thoroughly dizzy and her face glowing bright red.
Meanwhile, watching the two of them ignore the time and place as they embraced in a passionate kiss, coupled with Muhan's tender doting on Chu Youyou, Yunzhu felt a sharp pang of pain in her chest.
It felt as though countless bone needles were stabbing into her heart, hurting so intensely she could barely breathe.
She had once fantasized about such a scene herself, but reality proved to be so cruel.
Yet, the moment she recalled everything Muhan had done to her in her past life for the sake of Chu Youyou, her expression turned icy once more.
She stopped watching the pair engaged in their public display of affection and turned back to teaching the tribe's females how to cook food.
She was determined to master all the knowledge Chu Youyou had possessed in her previous life and execute it ahead of time, stripping that cheap female of every single advantage she held.
At the same time, she would make herself the most vital person in the entire tribe.
Once she had enough authority and a voice that mattered, she would drive that cheap female straight out of the tribe.
And wash away the humiliation of her past life.
………
As for what was happening in the Winged Tiger Tribe, Su Xiyue knew nothing about it, nor did she care.
Yunxiang came running over excitedly, holding a newly woven back-basket. "Xiyue, look at this back-basket I just wove. How does it look?"
Su Xiyue took the basket handed to her, inspected it carefully, nodded slightly, and praised with a smile, "Mmm, it's very nice! You wove it extremely well—sturdy and aesthetic. Yunxiang, you're amazing."
It truly was well-made; although not entirely flawless, it looked considerably neater than the very first back-basket she had ever wove herself.
She couldn't help marveling at how genuinely dexterous the hands of the females in the beastman world were.
Unlike her own clumsy first attempt, which had looked like an absolute disaster.
Hearing her praise, Yunxiang beamed from ear to ear with joy. "Really? That's wonderful! Xiyue, thank you so much for teaching me how to weave these."
"There's no need to stand on ceremony. Once everyone has these back-baskets, carrying things will be much more convenient,"
Su Xiyue said nonchalantly.
Suddenly, she remembered that the trading fair was coming up soon, only a month or two away.
Looking at the others, she offered a reminder, "Everyone, if you have free time, you can weave a few more back-baskets. After the harvest season comes the trading fair, and these back-baskets are resources too. When the time comes, we can take them to exchange for supplies with other tribes."
