Chapter 36 The Little Sun: It Is Merely a Task from the Chief
Next, Audrey expressed her desire to learn about secret organizations, and Alger demanded 1,000 pounds from her.
At Miss Audrey’s lighthearted comment that it was "really cheap," a poor little Klein-cat quietly shattered inside.
Alger described the Moses Ascetic Order, stating that they worshiped the Hidden Sage, an impersonal evil god who served as a symbol. However, because the Hidden Sage had suddenly come to life, the Moses Ascetic Order had rapidly degenerated from a respectable ascetic organization into an evil one.
Then came the Demoness Sect, whose upper echelons were entirely female. As this was mentioned, everyone couldn't help but recall Ceolres’s description of a "witch" from the last gathering, and they all made a rough guess.
Following that were the Church of Death, the Psychology Alchemists, and the Hermit Order.
These were all contents worth 1,000 pounds, so the specifics would not be elaborated upon in this free chapter.
After chatting for a while longer, Klein announced that the gathering had ended.
...
Cutting off the connection and watching their figures shatter and disappear, he tried to imagine creating an "alt account."
Unfortunately, after several attempts, the alt account remained dull-eyed and wooden in its movements. Even with the shroud of illusory gray fog, its unnatural state was clearly visible.
"It won't work..." Klein sighed after many more experiments, giving up on the idea of creating an alt account. After trying a few other things, he continued to sit above the gray fog, at the head of the bronze long table, contemplating Audrey’s earlier words and curiously casting his gaze toward those illusory, deep red stars.
After a moment of silence, Klein began to reach out to those stars by responding to prayers rather than establishing connections. In the peace and dead silence, he failed to receive any information from the dozen or so nearby deep red stars.
No one was praying to him, so naturally, there was no way to respond.
Moreover, he did not wish to violate anyone’s will by forcibly pulling them up to the gray fog.
As for Audrey, Alger, and Ceolres?
Sorry, Mr. Fool doesn’t understand what you are saying.
Transfers to a human operator are unavailable.
Just then, Klein brushed against a star and heard a faint, indistinct sound of prayer within.
Klein focused his attention. Through the deep red, he could only vaguely see a brown-haired youth kneeling on both knees, facing a pure crystal ball.
The black, tight-fitting clothing the youth wore was completely different from the fashion trends of the Loen Kingdom, and it also differed significantly from the traditional foreign attire Klein had seen in magazines from the Feysac Empire, the Intis Republic, and others.
His surroundings were dim, with old tables and chairs illuminated from time to time by light, yet Klein could not hear the sounds of rumbling thunder or falling rain.
In the vision, the youth had his hands clasped against his forehead, his body hunched forward, praying incessantly. A thick, buzzing voice echoed in Klein’s ears.
Klein listened intently, only to realize he could not understand it.
"If only I had Mr. Demon’s synesthesia beacon," Klein thought.
Troubled by his inability to understand, Mr. Fool withdrew his gaze.
Poor supplicant, he surely could not have guessed that the great existence was not responding simply because he couldn't understand him.
...
Forsaken Land of the Gods, City of Silver.
Derrick Berg stopped praying and stayed quietly in the room for a while. Seeing that there was still no response, he left the private room and sought out Chief Colin Iliad of the City of Silver, who was waiting outside.
"Chief, there is still no response." Derrick felt a bit disappointed; this was the first time the Chief had assigned him a task.
"It’s alright," Colin patted Derrick on the shoulder. "I let you take the risk."
"For the City of Silver, this bit of risk is nothing." Derrick’s gaze was very firm.
"Good child," Colin smiled. "Go and rest."
"Yes." Derrick left. Before he walked away, he glanced back at the room where the crystal ball was kept, apologizing in his heart.
"I’m sorry, great existence. This was merely the Chief’s task."
A few days ago, the "Amber King" had pulled Colin’s consciousness into the Gorge of Destiny and bestowed an oracle upon him, commanding him to have a youth named Derrick Berg pray to a crystal ball.
Colin did not understand, but he followed the instruction anyway. What puzzled Colin even more was that when he left the Gorge of Destiny, he vaguely saw a giant amber hammer fall from the top of the gorge, shattering its summit.
It was truly baffling.
