In the end, Wen Jin was left alone on this side.

Because Wen You said her hand hurt, Sheng Yang didn’t force her to apologize any further and instead took Wen You straight to the hospital.

Only after everyone else had left did Wen Jin lower her eyes to look at her hand.

She had been standing so close to Wen You, and Wen You had done it deliberately.

So most of the hot water had actually splashed onto Wen Jin’s hand.

But no one cared, simply because Wen Jin hadn’t cried out in pain.

Fortunately, Wen Jin always carried emergency medical supplies with her.

She took out some clean paper and iodine from her bag and quickly treated the wound.

However, by the time she returned to the company, the back of her hand was already swollen and red.

Sister Shuang noticed the injury on her hand and asked with concern, “Why are you only coming now?”

Wen Jin was already two hours late compared to the usual start time.

The Japanese restaurant Sheng Yang took her to was far from the company, and it was rush hour, making a taxi difficult to get.

Wen Jin had taken the subway back.

She could only apologize to Sister Shuang.

Sister Shuang waved her off and then glanced at the back of Wen Jin’s hand again. “Go to the lounge and take care of your hand first. For a designer, hand injuries are a big deal. Rest up and come see me in the office after you’re done.”

“Thank you, Sister Shuang,” Wen Jin felt a warmth in her heart.

“No need to thank me. I have something to discuss with you.”

Wen Jin went to the lounge to apply more medicine and then found Sister Shuang.

Sister Shuang hesitated before speaking: “Wen Jin, do you urgently need to return to Yang City?”

Wen Jin paused. “Why do you ask?”

“There’s been a problem with Ning Jing. She has to take some time off.”

Sister Shuang seemed a bit embarrassed saying this.

Wen Jin had already completed all the formalities, and it felt a bit awkward for Sister Shuang to ask for help.

“But you were brought up by Ning Jing. You should be somewhat familiar with her recent projects. You know it’s unrealistic to find someone at the last minute.”

“The boss wants you to stay for now and help out. The salary during this period will be calculated at Ning Jing’s rate, including overtime pay. Since it’s complicated to handle the social insurance and housing fund, they’ll just pay you in cash. Is that okay?”

Wen Jin didn’t reply immediately. Ning Jing was her team leader and the senior who had helped her lay the foundation. Many questions Wen Jin didn’t understand were solved by Ning Jing.

She asked, “When will Sister Jing return?”

Ming Yue Shuang exhaled with relief. “Just a week. Her child suddenly fell ill and needs surgery.”

Wen Jin’s plane ticket was exactly a week later. She had planned to use that week to settle all her affairs in the capital.

After leaving the office, her phone rang again.

Wen Jin answered. It was the landlord, who sounded a bit displeased: “What are you doing? You’re not answering calls or replying to messages.”

Wen Jin hurriedly apologized.

But the landlord then said, “I’m just reminding you that the rent is due.”

Wen Jin was renting a high-end apartment, and the rent was expensive.

Moreover, the landlord had warned her last week that the rent would increase.

After some thought, Wen Jin decided to discuss moving out with the landlord.

The landlord didn’t make things difficult and only asked Wen Jin to pack up her belongings within two days.

After ending the call, she opened an app to look for suitable weekly rentals nearby.

This time, without having to consider Sheng Yang, she quickly found a place.

The price was only three digits.

This was more suitable for Wen Jin’s living situation and what she could afford.

The luxury apartment was simply too costly.

Like she had once seen in Sheng Yang’s phone conversations with friends, they said that even if she stepped a foot into high society, she couldn’t hide the air of poverty about her.

No matter how fancy the clothes, the core of one’s upbringing couldn’t be covered.

They weren’t entirely wrong; after all, a casual meal for them might be more than Wen Jin’s entire yearly salary.

She was indeed a sparrow mistakenly wandering into high-class territory, never able to perch on the branches.

The gap between classes was insurmountable, so Wen Jin never expected anything from Sheng Yang.

She saw everything clearly.

“I heard last time that Wen Jin lives around here?”

Wen You had just left the hospital, her hand wrapped with a layer of medicine, and pointed toward a nearby apartment.

Sheng Yang paused, then nodded coolly, “Yes.”

“I thought you’d let her stay at Meiyuan.”

“She doesn’t need to,” Sheng Yang glanced unconsciously in the direction of Wen Jin’s apartment.

He had been to that place several times and didn’t like it much.

Plus, Wen Jin’s taste was quite poor.

She probably bought many items that clashed completely with the style of the house just to cater to his preferences.

The quality wasn’t impressive either.

That’s why he often disliked staying there.

Noticing Wen You still standing nearby, he said, “Since your hand’s fine, you should go back.”

Wen You raised her brows, her exquisitely made-up eyes showing a hint of pride.

“I know you can tell I did it on purpose, but you still chose to help me. I’m happy.”

Sheng Yang stood before her but didn’t look at Wen You. His eyes were covered by a cold mist.

He said casually, “If I don’t help you, am I supposed to help Wen Jin? She’s not my fiancée.”

At that moment, his phone rang. He glanced down without lifting his head. “I have business. I’m leaving.”

Without waiting for Wen You’s reply, he left directly.

Wen Jin had to stay at New Moon a little longer. She told her aunt about the situation, and her aunt didn’t say much.

But when she heard Wen Jin planned to rent a short-term place near the company, she sent some money over, telling her not to skimp on herself.

Wen Jin’s heart softened. No matter what, her family and friends were good to her.

She didn’t expect to run into Sheng Yang again while packing at the apartment.

He leaned against the wall, looking casual, but when he lifted his eyelids, that natural arrogance he always showed toward Wen Jin resurfaced.

Yet beneath that arrogance was a trace of irritation, though not genuine.

Wen Jin thought he was here to cause trouble over Wen You’s issue.

Just as she was about to speak, the landlord came out of the elevator.

Seeing Wen Jin, he said directly, “When do you plan to move out?”

“Can you hurry? This apartment has already been rented out. The new tenant moves in tomorrow.”

Wen Jin’s brow furrowed slightly, her heart tightening.

Sheng Yang was still here.

Before she could come up with a suitable explanation, Sheng Yang spoke first: “You’re moving?”

His eyelids drooped lightly.

His gaze fixed on Wen Jin without shifting.

Wen Jin felt a headache but didn’t want to argue with Sheng Yang in front of the landlord.

She could only agree to the landlord’s request and then turned to open the door.

Sheng Yang followed her inside. “Aren’t you going to give me an explanation?”

Wen Jin stopped in her tracks and glanced back at him. “Explanation for what?”

Her utterly indifferent attitude instantly ignited Sheng Yang’s anger.

He tugged at the corner of his lips, his gaze darkening. “Wen Jin, you’d better not let me find out you’re up to something pointless.”

He looked at her.

The room was still unlit, the dim dusk light streaming through the window.

But the light stopped just short of Sheng Yang, leaving him in shadow.

Wen Jin lowered her lashes and quickly composed herself.

Then she pulled up her phone screen to show him: “The rent here is going up. I can’t afford it on my salary, so I have to move.”

Sheng Yang read the chat with the landlord. His furrowed brow loosened slightly. “Are you really that short on money?”

Wen Jin said nothing.

Sheng Yang sneered coldly. “So that’s why I told you to quit. What use is your job if you can’t even pay your own rent?”

Indeed, it was of no use. Wen Jin’s monthly salary couldn’t even cover the cost of one of Sheng Yang’s cufflinks.

But it was her job.

Wen Jin firmly said, “If you’re here to stir up trouble because of Wen You, please leave. I’m very busy right now.”

Sheng Yang glanced at her. “I wasn’t going to bother you, but now I am.”

“Since you’re moving, you can just move to Meiyuan.”

Wen Jin’s pupils widened slightly.

Meiyuan was a villa under Sheng Yang’s name. He never allowed anyone to stay there.

In all these years, Wen Jin had never been there even once.

Taking a deep breath, Wen Jin refused, “No need.”

She didn’t want to be watched by Sheng Yang every moment.

Sheng Yang’s gaze sharpened.

Apart from the three years they dated, they had spent a long time together.

Long enough for him to understand her thoroughly.

So when Wen Jin lied, he could tell.

“Give me a reason,” Sheng Yang’s voice was slow but heavy, as if he had completely seen through Wen Jin.
