Chapter 56 Apologize on Behalf of Wen Jin
Sheng Yang stood up straight away.
His gaze caught a figure on the second floor.
He said indifferently, "You can rest assured, I am not foolish enough to do that."
...
Wen Jin did not hear the rest of the conversation.
She went straight back to her room.
As soon as she turned on her phone, she received a call from Jiang Yuan.
Wen Jin answered it, and Jiang Yuan's voice came through, gentle and concerned:
"Xiaojin, are you still at the Sheng family residence? I'm free this noon, would you like to have lunch with me?"
Wen Jin wanted to say no.
Jiang Yuan immediately added, "I have something serious to discuss with you."
"I heard that you are planning to return to Yangcheng—"
Wen Jin's lowered eyelashes cast a shallow shadow across the bridge of her nose.
Jiang Yuan was always like this.
Her so-called hearsay was actually the result of her having someone investigate.
She would never ask directly; she would only investigate behind the scenes.
As if doing so could demonstrate her deep care and concern for Wen Jin.
Wen Jin only found this behavior to be the height of hypocrisy.
She took a deep breath.
Yet, remembering the message she had sent Jiang Yuan earlier from Yayuan, she realized she did indeed owe Jiang Yuan an explanation.
In the end, she agreed to meet Jiang Yuan at a restaurant in the city center.
After ending the call with Jiang Yuan, Wen Jin went back downstairs.
Sheng Yang was already gone; he had probably left.
After having breakfast with the old master, Wen Jin also took her leave.
To her surprise, upon stepping out of the Sheng family estate, she saw Sheng Yang's car parked by the roadside.
The car window rolled down, revealing Sheng Yang's face.
He looked at Wen Jin: "Get in."
Wen Jin didn't move. "We're not heading in the same direction."
Sheng Yang looked at her, coldness hidden between his brows.
"If I remember correctly, Manager Yao from Stars will be coming over today, and he should be bringing you to Lingyue."
"Are you sure we're not heading in the same direction?"
In fact, Manager Yao had already contacted Wen Jin last night, telling her to go straight to Lingyue and wait for him today.
After a moment of silence, there was nothing left to argue about.
Wen Jin pulled open the car door and got in.
The entire ride was passed in silence.
It wasn't until the car parked in the underground garage that Wen Jin spoke: "The Wen family didn't come to the banquet yesterday."
Sheng Yang's expression remained unchanged. "So?"
"Why—"
Wen Jin looked at him. "Wen You is your fiancée, you couldn't possibly not have invited her."
Sheng Yang glanced at her, one eyebrow arching slightly. "You care about Wen You that much?"
Wen Jin looked at him, remained silent for a moment, and then shook her head. "Never mind."
To avoid unnecessary trouble, Wen Jin walked around to the front entrance of Lingyue after getting out of the car.
Manager Yao's call came in right on cue, asking her where she was.
Wen Jin hurried over to rendezvous with Manager Yao.
As it happened, Chen Jin was also there, and he greeted Wen Jin with a smile: "Miss Wen."
Manager Yao cast a glance at Wen Jin. "You and Secretary Chen are familiar?"
Wen Jin lowered her eyes.
"After all, I've delivered documents to Lingyue before, and I always have to trouble Secretary Chen."
Reading the room, Chen Jin knew she did not want their relationship exposed, so he cooperated and nodded along.
Only then did Manager Yao withdraw his gaze and say nothing more.
This cooperation project between Lingyue and Stars had been dragged out for a long time.
To be precise, Lingyue had simply been unable to make up its mind.
Chen Jin led them to see Sheng Yang.
As a veteran employee of Stars, Manager Yao was quite eloquent.
"Hello, President Sheng. I am the person in charge at Stars, my name is Yao Runhao."
"Xiao Wen is new to our company. I heard she offended you previously, and on her behalf, I would like to apologize to you."
Sheng Yang sat behind his desk, his brows lifting slightly.
He looked at Wen Jin with a hint of amusement:
"It seems the manager of your company is somewhat more sensible than you."
Manager Yao hurriedly said, "Young people are indeed ignorant of the immensity of heaven and earth, but our company's cooperation with Lingyue is completely sincere."
"You should have looked over the documents and materials we sent. Whatever needs further cooperation or adjustment, we are entirely open to revising."
Sheng Yang withdrew his gaze from Wen Jin, then swept his eyes across the desk.
After that, he raised his eyes to look at Wen Jin: "Is that the material you delivered?"
How could Wen Jin not see that Sheng Yang was doing this on purpose now?
However, with Manager Yao present, there was not much she could say.
She turned to look at Chen Jin. "If President Sheng can't find it, I also made a copy for Secretary Chen."
Seeing this, Chen Jin immediately handed over the document he was holding.
The subsequent matters were discussed between Manager Yao and Sheng Yang.
Wen Jin followed Chen Jin out of the office.
Chen Jin explained to Wen Jin: "President Sheng has actually looked over the materials you delivered."
He just didn't know why he had adopted that attitude just now.
Wen Jin said nothing.
Chen Jin continued, "However, if you're interested now, I can give you a tour of Lingyue."
Wen Jin raised her eyes. "A tour of Lingyue?"
In the past, Sheng Yang didn't like her coming to Lingyue.
Right now, Wen Jin wasn't particularly interested either.
Just as she was about to refuse, she heard Chen Jin say, "Ms. Jiang Yuan is currently at Lingyue. If you're interested, you can go over and see her."
"Jiang Yuan?"
Chen Jin explained, "Yes, because the cooperation with Lingyue is on a tight schedule, Ms. Jiang Yuan has been here almost the entire day."
"Moreover, she has a lunch gathering with the apparel department people today. If you're interested, you can come along."
Wen Jin asked in return, "A gathering?"
"Yes."
Wen Jin pressed her lips together and asked, "When was this arranged?"
"Yesterday."
The slightly turbulent emotions in her heart instantly calmed down.
Jiang Yuan had already arranged to have lunch with the people from Lingyue yesterday.
Yet she had called her again this morning.
She really never tired of playing the wolf-crying game.
Following Chen Jin to the apparel department, Wen Jin raised her eyes and saw Jiang Yuan standing inside.
Jiang Yuan was discussing something with others and hadn't noticed Wen Jin.
Wen Jin stood there for a while, then suddenly took out her phone and sent a message to Jiang Yuan:
[What time are you arriving at noon?]
Then she watched as Jiang Yuan inside took out her phone, glanced at it once, and put it right back.
She didn't reply to the message at all.
And when lunchtime was approaching, Jiang Yuan finally called Wen Jin, sounding apologetic:
"I'm sorry, Xiaojin, I just saw your message."
"I'm still at the company. Can you wait for me a little while? I'll rush over right now."
"Though it seems to be peak traffic time right now, there might be some traffic jams on the way. You might have to wait quite a while."
Wen Jin sat in the lounge, looking out the window at Jiang Yuan, who was leaving with her colleagues from the apparel department.
She gently nodded: "Alright, then I'll wait for you."
Jiang Yuan paused for a moment.
Then she continued, "But Xiaojin, aren't you busy with work lately too? Will this delay you too much?"
"We could reschedule for tonight instead."
Wen Jin hung up the phone directly.
Outside the window, Jiang Yuan was holding her phone, looking helpless as she explained something to the people around her.
However, Wen Jin no longer had the mood to watch.
She picked up her phone, preparing to head out as well.
Suddenly, Sheng Yang's call came in: "Come up."
"I'm not at Lingyue."
"Do you need me to send someone to the second-floor meeting room to invite you up?" Sheng Yang asked.
His fingers tapped rhythmically against the desktop.
His voice carried no discernible emotion: "I have something to discuss with you."
Helpless, Wen Jin had no choice but to turn back and head upstairs.
To her surprise, the moment she stepped out of the meeting room, she collided directly with someone.
That person let out a sharp cry of alarm.
Wen Jin was startled by her.
Yet, upon seeing the person's face clearly, her expression instantly sank.
