Cheng Yao glanced at the box in her hand and turned his head away. "Who cares?"

Guan Fanghua slapped him on the forehead. "What kind of attitude is that? It's your honor that Xiao Jin brought you a gift."

With that, she snatched the box directly. "If you don't want it, I'll take it!"

Then she simply dragged Wen Jin into the living room. Noticing Cheng Yao's expression, she lowered her voice and said to Wen Jin, "Actually, he wanted you to come back even more than I did. He's just stubborn to the core."

Wen Jin smiled and nodded. "I know."

Her flight had been delayed last night, and she didn't arrive until nearly midnight.

Cheng Yao had waited for her at the airport, and by the time they got home, it was almost two o'clock.

Her aunt looked at her carefully and sighed softly, "You've lost weight. You've really lost weight."

"When are you leaving?" Cheng Yao walked over and asked Wen Jin with a sullen face.

Wen Jin replied, "First, I'll see if I can get an offer from the company, and then I'll need to go back to Jing City to take care of some matters."

Cheng Yao turned and walked away, but not before grabbing the watch box from Guan Fanghua's hands.

Wen Jin hadn't been back to Yang City for a long time, so Guan Fanghua specially tidied up a room for her.

Over the next two days, Guan Fanghua took her around Yang City and even brought her back to the old family residence where Wen Chaosheng and the others used to live.

Guan Fanghua said, "When your dad comes back, I suppose he'll want to live in the old house, so I've already asked Cheng Yao to come and clean it up."

Cheng Yao happened to come out of the house at that moment and glanced at Wen Jin. "Doesn't the pampered young lady feel uncomfortable coming to such a rundown place?"

Guan Fanghua delivered another slap.

Although Cheng Yao's tone wasn't very pleasant, Wen Jin couldn't sense any malice in it.

This place was different from Jing City.

Wen Jin loved it here.

The offer from Polaris came through on the third day, and Wen Jin took Guan Fanghua and Cheng Yao out to celebrate.

During the gathering, she messaged Qiaoqiao, who immediately called her back. "Babe, do you know what happened in Jing City?"

"What happened?" Wen Jin asked.

"Wentao is dead," Qiaoqiao said nervously.

Wen Jin paused, somewhat surprised.

Yet Qiaoqiao's tone didn't sound good at all. "Even if you hadn't called me today, I would have reached out to you. Going to Yang City was the right choice."

"That psycho Wentao died, but not before leaving a suicide note claiming that you and your father drove him to his death."

"If you hadn't gone to Yang City beforehand, things would probably be really messy right now."

Even though Qiaoqiao said that, the trouble ultimately landed on Wen Jin's shoulders.

Wentao's death was originally a suicide—he had jumped straight down from the hospital building.

Yet he just had to leave such a bizarre suicide note.

The police still had to follow standard procedure and question Wen Jin a few times.

Cheng Yao's face turned exceptionally grim. "He got sick and wanted to die—what the hell does that have to do with you? Are those people out of their minds?"

Wen Jin also thought it was utterly absurd, but there was nothing she could do.

She said, "Since I need to go back to sort out my household registration anyway, I'll just handle it along the way."

Wen Jin's household registration was still with the Sheng family.

Back then, when Elder Sheng took her in to resolve her school enrollment issues, he had directly transferred her household registration over.

But now, she had to move her household registration out.

Cheng Yao blurted out, "I'll go back with you."

Wen Jin didn't agree; Cheng Yao had his own work to attend to.

Besides, she didn't want Cheng Yao to see the situation she was facing in Jing City, fearing they would worry.

She booked a flight back for early the next morning.

Meanwhile, Jing City was in an uproar because of Wentao's incident.

Sheng Yang stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, overlooking the bustling traffic below.

His assistant reported in a low voice from behind him, "Miss Wen has booked an early morning flight back to Jing City tomorrow. Should we arrange for someone to pick her up?"

Sheng Yang swept a cold and fierce gaze over his shoulder. "Send a car to pick her up? What kind of car—a police car?"

The assistant wisely shut his mouth, not daring to say another word.

Sheng Yang lifted his chin slightly, his jawline taut, and his lips pressed into a straight line.

Fine.

He hadn't expected Wen Jin to go straight to Yang City.

Yang City...

Sheng Yang rubbed his index finger with his thumb, a surge of some nameless emotion seemingly welling up inside him.

In the end, it filled the space in his chest entirely.

-

Wen Jin arrived back in Jing City still in the morning.

However, as soon as she turned on her phone, she received a call from Sheng Yang.

"Exit C." That was all he said.

When Wen Jin walked over, she spotted him at a glance.

He was standing beside the Rolls-Royce, his expression rather cold. "The Sheng family hasn't shortchanged you all these years, yet you certainly know how to cause trouble for the family."

Wen Jin said, "Wentao's matter has nothing to do with me."

Sheng Yang let out a light sneer. "Then you'll have to go to the police station and explain that."

Wen Jin felt somewhat uncomfortable inside. Wentao's suicide note might not cause any substantial harm, but it was profoundly disgusting.

After a brief silence, she couldn't help saying, "The Wen family members really are cut from the same cloth."

Sheng Yang said indifferently, "You claimed Wen You targeted you, and now you think Wentao did this on purpose."

"Wen Jin, don't you think you might be the problem?"

The casually dropped remark only pressed down heavier on Wen Jin's chest.

She wanted to remind Sheng Yang of one of the reasons Wen You had targeted her in the past.

It was him, Sheng Yang.

However, saying those things now was pointless, so Wen Jin turned her gaze toward the window.

She spent nearly two hours at the police station before coming out. There was nothing actually wrong with her; it was just the cumbersome procedures.

To her surprise, Sheng Yang was still waiting outside.

With an unperturbed expression, she said, "I'm afraid Wen You is going to be disappointed; this matter has nothing to do with me."

Sheng Yang looked down at her from above. "Saying those things to me is useless. You can explain them to the old man and the Wen family later."

Wen Jin paused in her steps. "The Wen family?"

"Wentao remembered you right up until his death. Did you really think the Wen family would forget?"

Sheng Yang's tone carried a hint of sarcasm.

A curve formed at the corner of his lips before he slowly added, "Can Cheng Yao help you solve a mess like this?"

Hearing Cheng Yao's name so abruptly made Wen Jin's expression change.

She said in a deep voice, "You're investigating me?"

"Don't forget you're still a member of the Sheng family. When something like this happens, of course, I have the right to know."

Sheng Yang spoke with a light and breezy tone, yet his gaze was exceptionally cold and dark.

He lowered his eyes to look at Wen Jin and slowly opened his mouth. "Wen Jin, I gave you a chance, but you're too stupid."

He had given her a chance to apologize.

It was she who had failed to seize it.

Wen Jin paused for a moment, then suddenly asked, "So Sheng Yang, you actually hate me very much, don't you?"

Acting out this farce for so long with someone you loathed must have been quite exhausting.

Wen Jin said, "Then help me."

Sheng Yang's eyes narrowed slightly as he looked down at her from his height.

He wanted to ask where she got the audacity to ask him for help—

Before he could speak, however, he heard Wen Jin say, "Transfer my household registration out of the Sheng family, and I won't cause any more trouble for the Sheng family from now on."
